- In this English Pronunciation lesson we are going to look at the vowel sounds /i:/ and /ɪ/ which are minimal pairs in English and many students who are learning English find these sounds difficult to either hear, or to pronounce, especially when speaking English quickly.

The sound /i:/ is a long vowel sound found in words like Bee and He. The sound /ɪ/ is a (very) short vowel sound found in words like Bit and Hit. It is very important for you to hear the difference between these sounds because sometimes when Native English speakers speak really fast, it can be difficult to pick up.

@@EasyENGLISHwithJames thanks 🙏🙏🙏😊😊
Practice again and again and again and again 🌝🌝🌝
Sir James, Ifeel very intersting about your unique and play way teaching method of English in the most precise way that was injected to the memory cell.Thank you so much sir for your wonderful video uploaded for us (the foreign learners ). Now please chek my answer :
1) He sees people in his dream.(5 /i:/s in this sentence ',in' has /I/ sound)
2) This thin stick is in this bin ( 7 /I/s are there pronouncing in this sentence). 🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️👍👍👍
According to the Oxford dictionary you are wrong, but the fact I had to look into the Oxford dictionary says I wasn´t sure about it as well. ^^
There are only 4 /i:/s in He(1) sees(2) people(3) in his dreams(4). "His" has the short /I/ sound.
I never learn this in college
Thanks James
You’re welcome!
Bonjour James, est-ce que vous avez fait une vidéo sur la prononciation pluriel en fin de mot, prononcez s ou z? Merci!
James, can you make a video on connected speech?
Thanks ,How about letter E at the end of verbs like wantEd;arrestEd etc?
5 in the long I:
And 4 in the short I
Am I right?
Thank you so much for the last advice
I've been saying Beach With the short all the time 😅
Very useful video, sir. Thank you James!
There are 4 i: in the sentence
He /hi:/ sees /si:z/ people /pi:pl/ in his dreams /dri:mz/
There are 7 I in this sentence
This (1) thin (2) stick (3) is (4) in (5) this (6) bin (7)
Unbelievable good teacher and handsome
18:20 There're 5 /ɪ/ in this setence: 1) thin, 2) stick, 3) is, 4) in, 5) bin.
👍
👍🏼👍🏼👌👌
👌👏🥰
Bonjour James, Je suis surprise de constater que le nombre de syllables dans un mot et son emplacement est différent (je consulte deux sites qui m’indiquent par un tiret l’emplacement des syllables) et qu’elle est différente du dictionnaire Cambridge, est-ce normal?
This thin stick is in that s bin 7 short i vowel
🙏
How can I distinguish between e and short i in transcription
Bonjour James, dans la vidéo, pourquoi la transcription phonétique du mot easy est indiqué par (i: et i) est-ce deux longs i?? Est-ce que i (signifie aussi un i long représenté normalement par i:)???? Merci!
Salut Linda, Oui, parfois le long 'i' peut être représenté avec juste un 'i' surtout quand il est à la fin d'un mot.
Si vous souhaitez vérifier la transcription IPA d'un mot, vous trouverez peut-être ce site Web très utile.
