It’s for two reasons. One is that I’m checking for the balance of the horses heels to make sure they are even and balanced. Then I’m making sure the foot is level and even forward of the heels. Seeing if I need to lower any spots on the foot and then the horse will move correctly without issue.

I got to help my neighbor take care of his horse as he was a busy business person and I couldn’t afford a horse as a kid so it was the best of both worlds as he had help and I got to ‘have a horse’. I never got to be present when the farrier shod the mare. Your videos are interesting as I had never seen the process close up. Thank you! 😀

How come he puts his knuckles on the back of the leg every so often?
