Yes that's what tore it up, when placed to the in position both rear axles are driving for off road use only at slow speeds, that is a no no on hard ground at faster speeds, when placed in the out position, only the rear axle drives for road gear.
There is nothing better than a Gal and her Daddy, learning new skills. Sissy you have the best of the best teaching you, you're one lucky girl! Much Love to ABR! 💟💟💟 Granny Nanny
You want to lock the power divider for slippery conditions, it locks the front differential to the back differential thru the shafts between them so both axles will drive at least one set of tires
Divider lock should be disengaged anytime the vehicle is over 15 MPH. Should only be engaged on surfaces that would allow spinning of the tires but not while the wheels are spinning. The vehicle should also be moving in a straight line with matching tires between the front and rear differentials. There is also such a thing as an axle to differential lock on some truck tractors that with differential lock engaged you also lock a four axles to the differential. The divider normally in the front drive axle and allows for separate operation of multiple drive axles because when turning the all the wheels rotate at different speeds. Divider being locked in does not allow the front and rear axle wheels to spin independently. Manufactures use differential lock, axle lock and divider lock nomenclature incorrectly sometimes. Most multiple drive axle trucks have actually a divider lock but some also have an axle to differential lock which would be a separate switch and should be engaged in conjunction with the divider lock to increase traction to pull out of slippery surfaces. Axle to differential locks normally are on off road trucks and have not been used on over the road trucks for decades. Divider lock being engaged on dry pavement likely attributed to the rear drive shaft failure. Hopefully this helps. Sure enjoy watching everyone on Anchor Brand Ranch.
She's doing great! Awe, poor lil bat.. we have the tiny brown bats here and I love them. We have a pool and when the lights are on at night they'll fly around your head and then skim the top of the water for bugs. I've had to save a baby before that didn't quite know how to skim.. it went for a dunk and couldn't get out. No we don't touch them and no they don't go after a big human, they eat all the mosquitoes they can handle, which is a blessing! I love watching your all American boys! They are some tough kidos for sure. Y'all take care, God Bless 🙏🏼 ❤️
What an awesome job you do with your children. You talk to them like a person should and not arguing about the little things. She looks at you with sincere pride. thanks again DAD !👍👍👍👍👍
Sissie, you did good on your first time driving a big truck! The shifting will take practice! Ram, I hope you can get all the parts without having to wait for parts! Hot day time to head to the watering hole to cool off.
Awesome video . Also very good job to Riley for roping and puting some more training on his paint horse teaching her to be a switch ender .. I'm shure you had your own reason for switching but regardless it worked out and having a horse you can switch end's on like that paint is a horse with great skills and great to to have for shure..
Ole dad. #! dad but also cattleman, cowboy, veterinarian, truck driver, mechanic, welder, land manager, electrician, ........what else am I missing here? Everyone should watch some of these videos to see what it takes for that burger on our table.
Oh man yall this is golden!! Way to go Sissy! Once you get the timing down it's like cutting butter. A good shift point for most trucks is 1500 RPMS. Learn to control that right foot (RPMS) and you'll master all trucks. You did a great job Sister. Made my day to see you giving it a gooooo.
This video brings back some of my best memories: my dad patiently teaching me to drive the old trucks, which were his favorites. I love the older ones. He loved and got a kick out of teaching us to drive these. His favorites were the old Generals. My mom hated them bus they were an eyesore 😂. Grew up in Idaho, on the Oregon border. Looks a lot like the Nevada terrain. Thank you for sharing these videos. These are the best, most important times in life: making memories with our kids❤. My dad was a redhead, as are many in our family. He passed in 2005, but left so much knowledge and skill that he taught us, which is being passed down through the generations. PRICELESS …. 🙏♥️💥
power divider and interlock are the same thing. when in the out or unlock position the power goes through the front diff and only runs the rear diff. when locked in the power goes to both axles. NEVER SHIFT WHILE WHEELS ARE SPINNING preselect before you get into a rough spot.
Watch out Riley ,Sissy is taking over the Truckin duties. She'll be able to truck your horses to the rodeos ahead of ya all. Hope you win a bunch cause she going to be an expensive hired hand! Worth every Penny!
Hello my husband and I love to watch your videos, he use to drive a truck like that he said OUT is for regular driving IN is for all wheel driving (out 2 wheel In for 4 wheel driving). Lol that is how he drove not that it’s right just his way. Sissy you did great for a first time shifting .
As I recall power divider ìs for loose surfaces only. It works like a locked diff × 2 and does NOT like turning round corners especially on a hard surface .
Ramsey, the power divider is used to lock in axel two for more traction in dirt, snow and ice. You can see a small air line going into the diff, that is what locks up the axel two. And that is the weakest link in the drivetrain. That older truck most likely will not have a locker posi rearend so it's ok to drive it on road but at slow speeds only, still not recommended though. The drive shaft was just old and tired, or possibly a rock damaged it at sometime. I'm an owner operator of 20+ in a dump trk and never had that happen. Usually the u joint goes first from age. New seals like mentioned earlier above, is the only way to go. If not, an oil leak will show up really fast. Love your channel ABR ♥️🙏
What i was taught here in West Australia in Kenworth and Western Stars the Power Divider is best used for getting out bogs which means the switch is in the 'On" position . To me that plate there could around the wrong way . So when your free of a bog ,switch to "Off" . Good rule is never be in "ON " position at high
Normal highway driving is the OUT position. The IN position is for when you need more traction.Highway driving on pavement with lock IN is not good especially at higher speed and , never want to switch it while moving. Great videos. Just subcribed.
Good job Sissy! I see you got lots of help on the differential but that was fun to watch. 100°+ here too and 95% humidity makes it miserable and I don't have a pond to jump in! Can't wait to see what's next.
The power divider is in when you want both axles to drive like in mud or sandy ground you want it out when driving down the highway. In is like 4 wheel drive. With that short shaft broke you put the power divider in so the front drive axle engages and the truck will move.
Roxi you did a good job for your first time driving the truck. Just practice where the gears are so you can move to them easier and get the engine RPMs lined up with your road speed and gear. It will get a lot easier after a couple drives, once you get the feel it gets much easier. You need a few bullheads in your cattle tanks. Hope you all stay safe and healthy.
Great job, Roxi. You did great driving the big rig, and you didn't stall it once. Most people don't drive a simple 3-speed manual transmission in a little car that well when they first start.
I started watching, Anchor Brand Ranch, from the link on Fab Rat. Watching your uploads, Enjoy the content very much. My start in life was on a small Farm/ranch in Milford Utah. keep them coming; in the meantime, I will return to some of your first uploads. Thanks for the fun you put into my day.
The ranch cattle allotment got cut in half not enough to keep a family My dad and his brother were getting older, and sold the farm/ranch. I went to trade school in machine shop tech. Went to Idaho to work for a government contracer.
My dad and his brother had the ranch. The grazing permit got cut in half. Not enough for one family let alone two. They sold and I moved on. Went to Salt Lake, Idaho, and now living in Salt Lake.
Out on dry roads. In for traction. Like 4 wheel drive and yes that could have been the issue. I have never switched drivers like that with my wife. Not once. 😂
Out when normal use … it basically splits the power between the two axles, (that’s why it worked after it grenaded) you only want to put it in when things are slick or you’ve grenaded the axle
interlock/power divider locks both axels together to increase traction in slippery offroad conditions, normal highway driving the switch should be in off position . that seal may look like it was ok to you but you have disturbed the seal and it will probably leak if you put it back together .do yourself a favor and change the seal while you are already in there so you don't have to take the driveline and yoke back off.
You only need the power divider lock in the in position when you want both axles driving. For "normal" dry road/firm ground driving you should only need one axle driving.
The Power Divider should be in the office position unless you lose traction, that's probably what caused the through shaft to break. It can also burn up your power divider on the front rear end. Never drive on the road with the power divider engaged.
Congratulations Roxi (much better than Sissy!!) for such a great accomplishment. Hats off to Poppa Ramzi for guiding you correctly and safely. Happy truckin’ in the future and God bless the Hughes family.
Might help to explain what a tachometer is and how you use it to synchronize the engine to transmission and truck speed. Watch the tach, and do the shifts at 500 to 700 rpm difference between adjacent gears, whether shifting up or down.
Great first drive Roxie! Those gears will become easier each time out. 100 degrees is a good day to take a dip in the pond. Where does the water come from that feeds this pond.?
We always enjoy your videos so much. What's with the spools of line in the background while you were filling the water truck? Another top secret project? Roxie will be a fine super trucker someday..
My understanding about the IN and OUT. When you need extra traction put it to IN. Normal driving leave it OUT. It is to lock the second drive axle to help get you through a rough spot or when your main drive axle spins or high centers.
Power divider needs to be out for highway driving. It should be in for offroad soft conditions. Leaving it in on the highway would put stress on the front driveshaft, and the rear driveshaft, plus both differentials. What the power divider does is locks both axles together. The more Sissy drives the better she will get. Tell her to kinda watch the rpms. Take it outta gear at about 1700 rpm, and into gear at about 1200 rpm. Reverse the process for downshifting. There is usually a 500 rpm drop between the gears. 250 rpm drop if you are splitting gears. You are doing a great job instructing.
Inter-axle and power divider same thing. Out for normal driving hard dirt and highway, and in for wet, muddy, soft dirt, icy, snowy, hard pull up hill in the back country you get the idea. Great for first time driving Sissy, just keep it up you will get the hang of it
Watch the tach..feather the rpms for up / down shifts,, love them pretty toes!!,, Sissy!! (in the proper driving ppe 😂 flip flops...)😅..how do you tell the difference between a cowgirl & a truck driver ?????
The power divider lever is supposed to stay in the out position. You only use the power divider when you need extra power to the wheels. Never run the truck with it in gear. Please replace all the seals that you are dealing with. Need new seals with new parts. Blessings from Texas
Out for regular driving .In for slippery conditions. You can drive with it in on dry roads but it puts more stress on the driveshafts and ring and pinions when it's not slick especially when turning corners.
A power divider locks the two tandem axles together, meaning you now have power to the wheels on both rear axles. In should be engaged and only used on uneven or questionable traction areas. A true inter lock should be a differential lock, much like a posi track. And only used in extremely slick type conditions. Under a load with little to no traction issues your power divider could have caused your drive line failure. Failure usually accurs while turning when the wheels are not able to slip, to relieve pressure on drive train. Drive line failure is preferred. Otherwise you break axle shafts or ring gear bolts, and or gear teeth.
When she is up shifting… put two fingers on the stick… apply 1 or 2 pounds of pressure. It will pop out of gear when it hits the correct RPM’s. Does the Tachometer work? 1800-2000
Lots of those truck normally drive with the rear axle when you ingauge the in it makes one wheel drive on both axles you use the only use it for tough going
Great job Sissy! You will have it mastered in no time. Another question, when does I think it is Rio leave for his mission? Is it getting excited about going? I think he is going out of the USA but not for sure as I heard him say he didn’t know where it was. I hope that he is getting ready and that he will have a great time on his mission teaching people about the gospel and sating with them his testimony.
Tell him to have a great time and to enjoy Brazil. The people over there will be truly blessed to have you there. Your talent with horses and roping will be a huge part of him getting in touch with people. I am sure that being in the rodeo he knows that a lot of bull riders are from that area. What a way to connect with people the love of animals and the talents you have with them. I know that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is true and that our Heavenly Father guides us in all we do. He will be with you at all times and will always be there with us. Have fun and enjoy your mission.
I don’t want you to think I’m someone that is nosy about y@our😅🎉 family. There are 2 channels that I watch where the families are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, it is yours and the other is the farm on Route 66. I enjoy watching both channels and each family has a son that just left for a mission. It is nice to watch channels that are family friendly. I hope your son has a great mission experience and fun.
Out with all drive lines installed,,, and could of contribute to drive line damage, not real😮sure,,I have used Power divider walked in in the snow in the mudyes if you are turning corners with it🎉in,,, thanks,,,, BigAl California
And yes, if it was locked and on the pavement turning with a load, its probably what caused the damage...just like a 4x4 pickup in a paved parking lot locked in 4wd...now load 5,000 lbs in it & turn...wheels can't slip & something has to give.!!
You need to get her to move the seat ahead so she can reach the peddles. She is doingva great job for the lack of instruction, you need to inform her to watch the tachometer so that at 1800 its time to up shift and at 1500 its time to down shift and she needs to rev it to 1800 to get it in gear.
I drove over five million miles. I always use the clutch when changing gears. Yes I can shift without the clutch. But you seldom grind gears if you use the clutch. Transmission last a lot longer.
Ramsey let them push the clutch in to take the gear shift out of gear when they shift it will save your transmission easier to replace the clutch brake then it is to replace the teeth on the transmission just some advice from a old trucker
Yes that's what tore it up, when placed to the in position both rear axles are driving for off road use only at slow speeds, that is a no no on hard ground at faster speeds, when placed in the out position, only the rear axle drives for road gear.

Truckers make good money. Another way to make a living Sissy.👍👍👏👏
Really, "For Safety Sake" Sissy doesn't get to drive on the paved road but, Dad teaches Sissy to change drivers at road speed. LOL
Dirt road speed only 😜
New to the chanel thanks to Paul Cox. What a great dad teaching his daughter trucking. Awesome.
Thanks for coming
Hope you enjoy
Good to see Sissy has her driving boots on.
You want to lock the power divider for slippery conditions, it locks the front differential to the back differential thru the shafts between them so both axles will drive at least one set of tires
I agree think of it as putting your pickup IN 4 wheel drive
I've been a truck driver for 25 years, consider the power divider like 4 wheel drive, locks in power to both axels, out for normal driving.

As an old trk mechanic, always, always, always.
Replace the seals
While u got it apart !
Think of it as four-wheel-drive both axles drive when the interlock is in one axle dries when the interlock is out

Control would be better in different shoes.
Nice job sissie learning to drive the truck you will have it down in no time.

am very impressed with the efforts of teachin how to and you are patient and a good teacher and causes little or no panic woth pupil done well

Are you still around Milford?
The ranch cattle allotment got cut in half not enough to keep a family My dad and his brother were getting older, and sold the farm/ranch. I went to trade school in machine shop tech. Went to Idaho to work for a government contracer.

Great start Roxi. Don’t get frustrated, just keep up with the behind the wheel time.
Well done Sissy. Excellent learning driving skills.
Also mixed size tires will take out rear ends 12:20

interlock/power divider locks both axels together to increase traction in slippery offroad conditions, normal highway driving the switch should be in off position . that seal may look like it was ok to you but you have disturbed the seal and it will probably leak if you put it back together .do yourself a favor and change the seal while you are already in there so you don't have to take the driveline and yoke back off.
Good job Roxy! I was driving our REO when I was your age!
Roxy, you did good on your driving.
You only need the power divider lock in the in position when you want both axles driving. For "normal" dry road/firm ground driving you should only need one axle driving.
You did great sis.
Great job Roxie a few more trips and you’ll be a pro. God bless you and your family. 🙋🏻♀️♥️🇺🇸
The Power Divider should be in the office position unless you lose traction, that's probably what caused the through shaft to break. It can also burn up your power divider on the front rear end. Never drive on the road with the power divider engaged.
Thank you for making my day and giving me a smile
Keep your inter lock off for normal driving put your interlock on for soft ground. but make sure it is off for corners and standard driving
Congratulations Roxi (much better than Sissy!!) for such a great accomplishment. Hats off to Poppa Ramzi for guiding you correctly and safely. Happy truckin’ in the future and God bless the Hughes family.
Gotta love the country life. Boots and all in the water
Might help to explain what a tachometer is and how you use it to synchronize the engine to transmission and truck speed. Watch the tach, and do the shifts at 500 to 700 rpm difference between adjacent gears, whether shifting up or down.

Very good Sissy.
Good job Sissy!
My understanding about the IN and OUT. When you need extra traction put it to IN. Normal driving leave it OUT. It is to lock the second drive axle to help get you through a rough spot or when your main drive axle spins or high centers.

Good rule of thumb. If it's tore apart replace. Especially if you pull a shaft out of a seal replace before reinserting.

Great video Ramzi and family
Truck on girl truck on.
always use the clutch to teach shifting, only float the gears after you are experienced.
Inter-axle and power divider same thing. Out for normal driving hard dirt and highway, and in for wet, muddy, soft dirt, icy, snowy, hard pull up hill in the back country you get the idea. Great for first time driving Sissy, just keep it up you will get the hang of it
Hope all is going ok for y’all with the storm looking like it’s hanging right over your heads. Stay safe and well!
We have mud!!!!!
I learned to road switch in a cab over freightliner at hwy speed little sketchy but it can be done.
Power divider in , both axles turning, power divider out one axle only(rear) i think.
In for traction out for highway.
Out for regular driving .In for slippery conditions. You can drive with it in on dry roads but it puts more stress on the driveshafts and ring and pinions when it's not slick especially when turning corners.
Good job Sissy, there is a lot to learn but you will get it done. Maybe you need to drive it to school sometime, make all the boys jealous.
Tach doesn’t work on that one
Boy oh boy I really want to come out there and give shifting lessons.
Another very interesting video Thank you 😊😊
Lots of those truck normally drive with the rear axle when you ingauge the in it makes one wheel drive on both axles you use the only use it for tough going
It's best to replace the nuts when you replace the pinion seal just had one done on my back screw the other day
Out. In position is for both axles online mainly for off road or slick road conditions
Power divider in means 1 tire on both axles. Out means 1 tire on 1 axle. Having it on just means more traction
Great job Sissy! You will have it mastered in no time. Another question, when does I think it is Rio leave for his mission? Is it getting excited about going? I think he is going out of the USA but not for sure as I heard him say he didn’t know where it was.
What boots do you all wear ? They look comfortable.
In for slick conditions, out for normal driving. Just like 4 wheel drive on your pickup. Have a great day
Love the videos keep them coming
Good job Roxy!
Ramsey before stock trailers and pick ups got popular their were a lot portable loading chutes around. Do you have one?
Out with all drive lines installed,,, and could of contribute to drive line damage, not real😮sure,,I have used Power divider walked in in the snow in the mudyes if you are turning corners with it🎉in,,, thanks,,,, BigAl California
Power divider should only be used in slippery conditions and some manufacturers have a limit on the speed to utilize the power divider
Excellent Video ❤
And yes, if it was locked and on the pavement turning with a load, its probably what caused the damage...just like a 4x4 pickup in a paved parking lot locked in 4wd...now load 5,000 lbs in it & turn...wheels can't slip & something has to give.!!
You need to get her to move the seat ahead so she can reach the peddles. She is doingva great job for the lack of instruction, you need to inform her to watch the tachometer so that at 1800 its time to up shift and at 1500 its time to down shift and she needs to rev it to 1800 to get it in gear.
Tach doesn’t work on this truck
In locks both axels together its just like having lock hubs on a four wheel drive pick up
I drove over five million miles. I always use the clutch when changing gears. Yes I can shift without the clutch. But you seldom grind gears if you use the clutch.
Transmission last a lot longer.
Out in normal driving in for stuck or backing up to loading shoots were traction is limited
Ramsey let them push the clutch in to take the gear shift out of gear when they shift it will save your transmission easier to replace the clutch brake then it is to replace the teeth on the transmission just some advice from a old trucker
