    In the USA, a "warranty void if removed" sticker isn't legal as according to the Magnus and Moss warranty act of 1970 you cannot void a warranty just by opening the device. To void the warranty you have to actually cause damage to the radio.
    The issues are twofold: one is that most manufacturers ignore this as nobody is gonna take them to court over it and in this case it's a Chinese product so I'm not sure if the law even applies in the first place. I'm an RF engineer, not a lawyer after all.

      I mentally assume that my warranty is from/serviced by Radioddity and they have been very good. I will contact RO first. But that being said, I've had no problems with my rig.

    I love my 106, it is my GOTO radio for my home brew mag loop. I have made many contacts in that arrangement. A lot of mag loops out there have a built in SWR indicator, so that is not a problem about the lack of it being built in. It works great......

    Having just received mine - after months of waffling & watching your & other reviews - I came back to stare at the LPF bits. Looks like Xiegu’s barrel rolling the LPS across multiple bands. Which explains, as you have also noticed, that some bands are lower output than others. Mine, 30m is 3W & all else is at least 5W. Bet 30m shares the filter with 40m & that’n’s not optimized for 30m. Still, it’s a definite “non-threat carry-on” radio. Nothin’ fancy but at least good for a POTA in Portugal ;-). Thanks for the tear-down/look-see. 73 de W8IJN

    The price is now down to 279.00 before discount. Trying to decide between this, the usdx +v2, and the xiegu G1M. I like indecision, it saves me money.

    I just returned mine. It's cute and intended for low power digital mode; but the problem with getting into digital is that you need to buy more hardware making it less affordable from the "base" cost. I was not able to get a reply when I was testing. Zero issues on my lowest power on my base DX10...but that's a totally different ball game, I get it. Hearing myself on an SDR, I know it's me but I am a hair over the noise level. For just a little more, I got another Yeasu; the 891. I already had a tuner and a digi rig + correct cables. The cost for quality makes more since given that my voice is heard without having to mess around with 5w. There's a niche for this radio, but I rather have amazing hardware instead of playing with a toy. Someone may like it as a starter radio, but if you do voice and the bands are acting up...no one will hear you. I may still want one in the future if I want a low powered CW rig I can fit in my pocket..but only if it's used and at half the cost.

      Makes total sense. It's a fun radio to play with, but it might not match your use case.

    The Xiegu G90 has a silkscreened arrow on the circuit board which identifies the diode to be removed for extended transmit coverage. Is there anything like that on the G106 board?

    • @temporarilyoffline

    • @David2718281828
      @David2718281828 Рік тому

      @@temporarilyoffline Thanks for checking. Do you see any diodes, or traces on the circuit board with little tiny gaps intended to be bridged with solder, or anything else that matches the traditional way to provide configuration information to the processor? Especially relevant would be anything on the circuit which looks similar to how this is done on the G90.

    • @temporarilyoffline
      @temporarilyoffline  Рік тому

      @@David2718281828 I looked pretty hard for it, I'm assuming that as this radio gets a little more popular and some of the stink wears off that information will materialize. Its affordable enough to grab and take a look though.

    • @temporarilyoffline

      Yes, you can use the "blue cable" -> ebay.us/XBS8Or You can also use the DE-19, which if you don't have either, the DE-19 is a great way to get this G106 onto digital modes! I'll have videos on both out very soon.

      Nice look inside. Long gone the style of boards & parts I saw back working at Drake. This new surface mount stuff is hell on aging eyes & essential tremor sufferers. Which is why I now just look inside and let the basement-dwelling Cheetohs eater next door do all my mods & fixes. ;-). Have admit the board & bits looks nominal good. But sittin’ here with the IC-705 on the bench, I’ll pass on spending more. Thanks for the innards view. 73 de W8IJN
