    I am not a video shooter but doe nature and wildlife. I have owned the Sony A9ii and A1. I have owned Fuji XH1, XT4 and XT3 and now the XH2 and XH2s. People say I am crazy to sell the A1 and move to Fuji 100%. For me it is about the ROI on the spend. The A9ii is a great camera, and the focus system is fantastic so is the A1. But these are very expensive cameras plus the lenses. The firmware 3.0 is a great upgrade and for what I do and the results I get from the brand is fantastic. I used Nikon for almost 20 yrs. Nikon Z9 is also crazy expensive and so is the Z mount lenses. Unfortunately, Fuji lack lenses in the long telephoto range. The 150-600 at F8 is a very slow lens with many limitations. But I use the Nikon 500 f5.6 pf lens with Fringer adaptor with great success. The new Tamron 150-600 f6,7 is also a stunning lens, compact with great AF and IQ. APS-C sensors produce great results, and the Fuji system is really amazing value and top end technology. The Sony cameras lack "personality", a squire box with a grip. The gap between the grip and the lens mount is so tight that my fingers get stuck. But Fuji can learn a few things about customisation. the rest, it is fantastic

      Totally agree. 4k 120 minor crop, 4k 60 uncropped?, 6.2k Opengate? Like forget about it, the A7IV isn't even in the same league as the XH2s as a hybrid camera. It'll only get better with more firmware updates which Sony is never ever known for unless it's a camera bricking bug (lol to the last firmware update they had).

    Hey man I made a video similar to yours saying how great the xh2s is. I also owned the a7iv and thought it wasn’t anything special. It was really a hyped up camera that was alright. The xh2s in 4K 30p using the 14bit readout turns the camera into a mini Arri!

    • @SouthboundProduction
      @SouthboundProduction  Рік тому +4

      I believe the 14 bit extends to 6.2k as well! Yeah, that's an amazing feature I just wish it extended to 4k 60 as well.
      I definitely feel the push and pull of the new FLOG2 compared to the previous FLOG. XH2s just received a firmware update as well for the Autofocus and it's damn good. Thanks for the comment/watch!
      The A7IV just didn't feel like anything special to me. Maybe I'm spoiled when it comes to cameras due to my past experience? But the XH2s is the first camera in a while that has definitely wow'd me.

      Not internally no. It outputs 14 bit into a 10bit format. You’re getting more dynamic range flog2 4k 60 it goes only to 12 to 10 compressed. The 14 bit is related to the dynamic range readout only not color.
      You are only getting 10 bit color.

    I have both the XH2S and the XH2. I agree with you that the AF on the XH2S is excellent. I have the Sony A74 and the Canon R5. And I actually find the XH2S autofocus is MORE reliable especially on people than the Sony or the Canon. I am not a fanboy of any brand ( obviously), and I just say it like I see it. The 6.2k Open Gate video with the Autofocus on the XH2S is just amazing. I will say though that the IBIS on the XH2S is jerky. Its simply not as smooth as the Canon or Sony. The XH2 IBIS is slightly better than the S. I am hoping that a firmware update for IBIS on the XH2S will help it "relax" a little with the jerkiness. Other than that - the XH2S is almost perfect.

    I agree about the Eye Auto Focus, I believe Canon, Sony and now Lumix does this in their “auto eye detect” modes. So when it detects the other eye might be closer, it pauses for a second to see if it’s a quick change in focal plane or if it needs to move. And I think when it loses complete sight of the eyes, there’s still a slight hesitation before it switches to face/body AF.

    Great Video! I currently have XT4 and a canon c200, Just curious as I read below in your comments that you no longer use the XH2s, what have you switched to as I am thinking of upgrading my camera system. I shoot 50/50 video and stills. My stills have a lot of action so looking for better focus overall. I have heard the focus is great on the XH2s but the images are a little soft?

    • @SouthboundProduction
      @SouthboundProduction  11 місяців тому

      If you’re searching for more action oriented for stills I’d recommend a more updated AF system with subject detect so if you don’t get the eyes you get the body. With that being said the S5II does have both, I’ve tested indoor and indoor works okay but the place had terrible lighting (lol) outdoor works fantastic. The XH2s is great but I simply can’t see myself using a more video focused camera aka the XH2s for strictly photo only.
      While you get an insane sensor readout speed and a stacked sensor I’d honestly recommend something more on the Sony side for photo centric projects. If not the. Canon has great offerings as well. I was at the sidelines at the FC Dallas vs Miami game and all the video crew was using Sony and all of the photo crew was using Canon.

    Hi, great video. I have a6400 and I’m really don’t know if I should get the A7 IV or the XH2. I just love so much the aesthetics of this camera 📷 but I’m scared about low light performance with high iso.

    • @SouthboundProduction
      @SouthboundProduction  Рік тому +4

      Hi! I can lead you in the right direction. If you film in well-lit environments the A7IV would be great I did find the dual native ISO to be helpful, but it isn't the greatest at 800 and 3200 on the A7IV, the lowlight does suffer a bit due to the sensor A7IV but can be cleaned up and used in a decent fashion, if need be, for good footage.
      The XH2 noise performance is a little bit worse due to the higher resolution sensor as well, it's well above the A7IV and the XH2s at 40mp, the 8k readout does minimize some noise but only to a certain extent. ISO performance would have to do with lenses as well not just the body but if we're talking just body the XH2s is the better of the 3.
      But when it comes to ISO performance in LOG footage the XH2s is a bit cleaner and retains MORE dynamic range at higher ISO's compared to the A7IV due to less internal noise reduction that Fuji applies.
      So, you need to ask yourself, are you able to save up the money for really quality glass on the A7IV/FE mount, or. Would you rather save the $500 that the A7IV is priced up higher at and spend the additional money on accessories, CF express cards (for pro res) or additional glass?
      When it comes to photography the XH2 and the A7IV perform very similarly in terms of IQ but the A7IV has a deeper depth of field (more bokeh) due to the larger sensor and f1.4 on APSC is essentially F2.0 on full-frame equivalency.
      In terms of video if you find yourself needing more of the video side and uncropped 4k 60 and you don't need the 8k recording (which I highly advise you take into consideration), then the XH2s would be the better purchase in place of the A7IV. There has been a lot of tests about dynamic range on the XH2s vs the XH2 and the XH2s has greater dynamic range in terms of recovery in shadows, highlights etc, better readout, better af due to the XH2s being a STACKED sensor and the cheapest one that you can buy at this price point with these specs.
      Also to add onto lowlight just search around! there's a lot of videos and test videos showing lowlight footage on the XH2s and it's really damn good, you get better performance and better dynamic range as well if you turn off the internal noise reduction and do the noise reduction yourself!!
      In short, Photo + Video, XH2s as I've used both and prefer the XH2s. If you strictly want photo, then an A7R camera or a XH2 would suit your needs with subtle video on the side.
      Thanks for the comment!

      As for IBIS wobble on edges I’m not sure I’ve noticed it at all in my footage whenever I shoot. A lot of people say it’s the overcompensation of the IBIS and giving you the canon edge wobbles but for personal experience I haven’t seen it.

However, with some of those features being found in the upcoming GFX 100 II - Fuji should bring those features to the XH2S as it uses the same processor. Transition to the XH2s from the A7IV was really easy for me as a previous Fuji user, I had the XS10/XT3 way before Sony and loved the entire system. The menu system is easy to use and Fuji def has its quirks. APS-C vs Full-Frame doesnt matter to me because I rarely shoot wide open for "bokeh" I focus on subject + area scouting to show the landscape/set etc.

      Make sure you get the correct cards for each slot as it takes only one of each.
      I have the CF Type B cards that I use in the description and it's the best bang for your buck card you can get for the CF Type B slot.
      As for a regular SD card I've been using the Kodak V90 128gb Card that usually runs for $90
      Here's the link for the Kodak card: amzn.to/3k4LgCU
      I've fully tested it and filled it out and recorded media to it as well. It's a good card for the price.

      Hey Haywood! For DR I'm pretty sure the XH2s takes the prize because of the stacked sensor. I know in video it absolutely destroys the XH2 in video dynamic range and shadow recovery.
      As for DR compared to the X-T3, if you need updated features and you seem like you're being limited then def I would upgrade.

      @@NapalmAtSunrise Oh absolutely, I'd just get the XH2s and just call it a day. The XH2s is legit a very powerful camera.
      The 40mp hasn't been too noticeable in some images I've seen from other people as well. I guess it really does depend on lenses that you shoot with to see the full detail of 40mp.
      26mp is totally enough to print as well so no need to even worry.
      In Lightroom if u use it to edit your photos you can really just enhance details and use super resolution if you do intend on printing.

      +2 Tracking
      -2 to 0 speed depending on situational requirements!

    You're misinterpreting the numbers. Fujifilm X-H2s is an apsc, so in every frame rate and resolution it has a x 1.5 switch.

    • @SouthboundProduction
      @SouthboundProduction  Рік тому +4

      I understand why you're confused.
      I know the XH2s is an APSC hence the calculations anytime I talk about lenses I put it on the screen.
      I assume people already know that using a 23 on the xh2s equates a 35 in the “my needs” section.
      If I wanted a 35mm equivalent on the A7IV I’d have to get a 24mm GM 1.4 to get the same results as my 23 1.4 LM WR on my Xh2s at 4k 60. Which when it comes to price to performance is way unreasonable for first party lenses.
      The XH2s has uncropped 4k 60 not including the 1.5x on the sensor itself. So there’s 0 crop on the 4k 60. So it’s 23 X 1.5 = 35mm and 4k 60 is full sensor readout oversampled from 6.2k.

    • @SouthboundProduction
      @SouthboundProduction  Рік тому

      Doesnt really apply. Anyone in their right mind clicking on this already knows its APSC vs Full-Frame. They shoot different focal lengths for different lenses and acquire different FOV's.
      17-70 on the Fujifilm XH2s is 24-105,
      If you shoot 4k 60,
      You get 24-105 focal lengths of 4k 60.
      What you see is what you get.
      If you shoot 4k 60 on the A7Iv with a 24-70 Sigma then you get whatever focal length you shoot + 1.5x lol.
      (36-105) It's a matter of price to performance and efficiency and not throw money at it if you have a problem.
      Full Frame is pricey if you're under the wrong ecosystem and want quality lenses. In terms of quality lenses in 2023 for the Sony E-Mount system there's an abundance because of the short flange distance. Sony does have cheap lenses but they come at a cost. The cost is you get terrible features for the price. The A7IV is 2 years old and has already been out-featured by cameras released a few months after it if not 1 year which has never been the case. Especially if you look at the A7III.
      Thus letting people adapt and find cheaper lenses.
      What isn't good is the performance and vignetting, CA and sharpness and build quality of most 3rd party lenses as well as image quality that you get.
      There were no good lenses till the 16-28 came out and that makes the 1.5x crop beneficial to get the true 24mm focal length without needing to buy a prime for it. As well as the 16-35 being overpriced for what you get from sony till the 16-35 Mark II was released recently.
      So, it's actually laughable that you didnt consider that people use one lens for run and gun setups and dont like carrying massive kits with the whole build a bear workshop in their backpacks!

    6,2k is not way sharper than a7-4 , almost the same . And you can't compare cuz lenses should be the same . AF is better on Sony , Fuji has no af-c touch tracking , no dual base Iso , Ibis with active mode is better on Sony . 6.2k open gate is just a marketing , not so much flexibility as you said . Sony is workhorse here , Fuji is kinda hobby camera , not as reliable as Sony . I do have both and I do love more colors and Dr from Fuji . But all my work is being done with Sony)

    • @SouthboundProduction
      @SouthboundProduction  11 місяців тому

      The Sony has an oversampled 7k to 4k, and terrible resolutions for filmmaking limiting you to 3840x2160. An oversampled IQ will always fall short of a full sensor readout of a 6.2k image quality. The 4k60 on the Fuji is readout to a 6.2k oversampled as opposed to the A7IV's 4.6k oversample.
      Dual base iso is fine as an arguement but sony has extremely high internal noise reduction to begin with so the DR on the Fuji is greater and the noise reduction in post in davinci resolve looks way better than letting the camera do it, which Sony NEVER lets you disable because they'd most likely expose themselves. ( you can research the A7S3 noise reduction into a ProRes Raw format recorder to see the difference and its crazy how much NR is in camera)
      FLOG2 is better than SLOG3 by miles and so is Panasonics VLOG, the shadow recovery on SLOG3 is god awful. What Sony make up for in noise performance they suffer for in their shadow recovery and highlight recovery in their log profiles.
      Fuji IBIS and Sony IBIS are equally shit but I prefer Fuji's more.
      AF-C touch tracking is overrated and useless in my personal opinion. 6.2k open gate is not just marketing, the vertical headroom you get when adjusting for social media and reframing shots is insane. Adjusting any of my shots on my previous A7IV destroyed the frame that I had in mind and forced me to shoot vertical for vertical content, thus forcing me to choose one or the other.
      Photos look way better on Fuji, no discussion there. Any camera will look good in good lighting conditions and to have the grain on the Fuji cameras be closer to finer film grain and completely usable and pleasing to the eye.
      I no longer have the XH2s as I sold it and bought the S5II instead which is a better competitor to the A7IV at a way cheaper price point and has better IQ overall. I just put out a review if you're interested.
