Great rock laying skills on and around the steps, and especially around your IBC reed beds! It all looks great. Saint Tessa is a magnificent woman - what a job she did bringing everything up in her car AND with a bucket full of fish on her lap! Heroic Sage's help with the pipe feed though was ... fun to watch! Hey Tracie! Thanks for your lovely comment and great suggestion! Robbie puts tree prunings in the water as an escape, but I think they look a little messy. Do you have any other ideas?
Hi, found your channel recently and I am catching up with all the videos. I loved Grandma's last mile delivery service, and your work ethic is amazing. Robbie's attention to detail cannot be faulted. Sorry for the loss of the chooks. Birds of prey eagles falcons kites and owls hate each other even a pair of eagles will never share food only with their young. Find out if you have a large owl species native to the area and place 2 large size statues around your birds in trees or roof top. it should deter other birds of prey. You can also install silver streamers on poles as a deterrent. Also consider netting if you can keep your chooks in a confined area. The only way to stop boar is solid fencing. Check out if a local sawmill can supply you first cut timber (the pieces first cut of logs with bark still on) Install solid posts and then screw the on the posts onto the side the boar travel from. Scrap yards may also be able to supply you water pipe to use as posts and fencing. Good luck with all your future plans following from Australia.
Thank you for your kind comment Louis from Australia! Some really great advice here! Robbie's attention to detail is certainly admirable, although it does mean our projects go 10x slower haha! A great idea about the owl statues, we do have some eagle owls lower down in the valley, they are adequately ginormous and scary so that's a great idea. We are in a bit of a conundrum with putting up owl statues in that Robbie loves owls and is trying to get them to move onto our land (he loves making owl boxes), so by putting up owl statues he worries we might not get any owls coming to nest! But it does seem like a very good solution to our goshawk problem! We've looked into sawmills here but Spain doesn't really have the sawmills we have in england, we think maybe they dont use as much wood here because of the termites! Well you should get plenty of water to fill your ponds this week, as there is an awfull lot on the cards right through untill Sunday and windy with it.
Thanks Robert! There's definitely a bit of rain today, we hope more continues to come. The last proper rain we had was in September last year! We'll let you know in an upcoming video if the pond fills before summer! Fingers crossed!
@@ladyandtheowlman You're pulling my leg, I though when the rain comes in from the Atlantic in drops what left on Spain when it has crossed our mountains. The last 6 months here I think has been one of the wettest winters for a while, we have had a years rainfall since Sep 1 39 " or Se 165 mm, Oc 238 mm, No 264 mm, Dec76 mm, Jan 170 mm,Feb 152 mm and March 208 mm +yesterday as not checked the gauge yet. You really have picked a dry spot. Might be a good idea to relocate to Portugal as plenty farms here for sale, very cheap and most with their own water supply. With global warming set to continue your problem is only going to get worse. Not sure exactly where you are in Spain, but might be an idea to take a short break a pay me a visit then you can see what it 's like her for yourselves. I have plenty room here if you need an overnight stay.
@@ladyandtheowlman If you are wondering, yes am a bit of a weatherman, when you've been growing all your life you have to be so you know what crops are going to do best in any particular year. The rainfall here is 39" or 1 meter.
Haha yes this is the conversation around every decision! No wonder it takes so long for us to do anything. Your channel is cool! How on earth do you look after 140 acres of land in Australia!? That's a big job
Thank you for your kind comment Khris, it's nice to know we are missed! We are all doing great, just waiting to get our hard drive back from Madrid (where it is being fixed after the fire) and then we can post the video that is on there, very soon we hope! In the meantime we are working on finishing the compost toilet so hopefully that video can come out soon after too, thank you for your patience, and for the love!
Thank you for the comment and support Mosen! Yes we do make an effort to stay close to him because there are a lot of eagles around, some golden eagles now and again come quite low above our vegetables, sometimes it feels they are checking us out! One persons dog in our valley was taken by a golden eagle, so after we heard that we were much more careful! This is absolutely not something we are used to coming from england haha! It sounds like you have some experience?
Thanks for your comment Jerry, we appreciate the support! We've checked out some of their videos, they make some really cool content, a very unique filming style, we've actually learnt a few things from them already!
Thank you so much for the kind words! Sorry it's taking us a long time to get this video out, we're working like crazy filming and editing everyday... we're waiting for our broken hard drive to arrive so we can finish the last video off! Should be arriving today or tomorrow! Thanks so much for your patience, we promise our videos will be a bit more consistent going forwards! We didn't realise how complicated it is to store all your video files... we are 100% going to back everything up in future, not making that mistake again.
Hi. Maybe use these to keep boars and other predators away Zon scare guns are the most user friendly propane cannon in the world. They are ideal for fruit and crop protection, hazards and nuisances, as well as predator and wildlife control, including birds, bats, foxes, rabbits and kangaroos.
Wow we've never seen one of these before, thanks so much for the recommendation! We'll look into them for sure. Haha not sure we need to scare away kangaroos though! Thanks so much for your support!
@@ladyandtheowlman my pleasure. Just wanted say how impressed I am with your work ethic. The way you set your goals and implement them is exceptional. The stairs were outstanding. Keep up the excellent work. Kia kaha (New Zealand native Maori language for Keep Strong)
Haha thanks Ritchie, I'm sure your words come from wisdom and experience! I have told Robbie and he is very happy to hear your words, stay tuned to our videos and in 10 years from now perhaps either our stairs have broken half by an olive root or Robbie has ripped it out of the ground and blamed it on a mouflon!
Robbie made some good points about the branches getting in the way and slapping you in the face as you head up the steps on a cold winter's night (my embellishment), the wild sheep/mouflon will attack it, like they have attacked many of their new trees, or the unstable steep slope above it will slump down and wipe it out, or it will be 25 yrs before it produces a crop ... On the otherhand, who cares; it looks great, branches can be trimmed and the slope may be good for many, many years! So what if the sheep eat it?
Hey Dave! Yes - we are planning on making the toilet a green roof. I guess the next thing is to pour a concrete lip around the edge, Robbie’s going to be thrilled 😅 Just got to find the right type of plants for the scorching Spanish summer.
Thanks Alex! Yes I think you're right, we've decided a railing does make sense. And yes good idea putting it on the other side, then it can be a shorter railing with less posts!
Thanks for the comment! We do actually have 2 bee hives, but we haven't been able to maintain them very well, there is so much skill needed to look after bees we now realise! We will definitely try again in future because we love honey and it's so healthy for you!
Your tanks are made of Polyethylene plastic... and unless coated with something that is UV resistant, they tend to weather, and crack in fairly short order. You may want to consider covering your tanks.
Thanks Curtis for this information! For sure we need to find a good way to cover our tanks, everything we seem to cover them with in the past does end up degrading in the sun after one or two summers though! Any recommendations?
In the end, I think that would have been a valid approach too! It started with just digging two plastic containers in the ground, and snowballed from there 🙈😅
Thank you Josey! Do you mean the compost bin? For sure! We're going to remove each bin as it fills up, we'll use the tractor to move it and store for 12 months in a shaded place, before using it as compost on our trees. We've calculated that each bin will last around 6 months!
Just too add now that you should have your bog up and running. A small thing we say when on soak away or septic tank. Don't pee inside if you can pee out. Saves on water, especially if it is in short supply, like you say you are just now. The alternative is only flush every other time. Now I'll go back to the fire as is very cold here just now, warmer in Scotland at 75, as here only 56 and showery.
Wow running the fire in May in Portugal, that's pretty great! We're still waiting for our rain!! Still not finished the compost toilet, we are very slow at building! The next video is out today, about some mountain beasts, hope you like it - leave us a comment and let us know what you think? I'm sure you've got more experience than us in everything we were doing in the video!
Thanks so much for the comment, and for the kind words! Yes Robbie is a bit crazy when it comes to concrete, coming from absolutely no background in construction we have no idea how much to use! I guess where it comes from is that we have seen so many houses cracking and looking a bit worse for wear (the clay soil here seems to break most houses over time!), and figured we don't want that to happen to us, we want the things we build to last forever, so we just make things nice and big haha!
Haha yes absolutely! Although it might have to be a mouflon or wild boar stew, because the sheep are actually owned by a shepherd! Not sure he'd be too happy we took one of his sheep! Even though they do eat all of our trees haha.
Hope you have had plenty of rain by now, if not you can have some of ours as we've had more than enough and my pond is full and the walls have sealed so am looking forward too a big harvest this year as am running out of things now so having to buy fro shop, which peeves me as I like to think I can grow enough, but being warm in winter doesn't help with the storage and thing go off to fast.
Thanks Robert for your ongoing support! That's amazing news about your pond, how do you store your food over winter? Do you have a cold store? How did you make it? We're thinking we need one!
@@ladyandtheowlman Morning, with great difficulty as it is too warm and storing it in the cellar is no better so have switched too 2 crops a year with roots. The first crop is all but ready and will sow and plant again last week in August just before the rain comes back and they will be ready by Christmas, then can stay in the ground untill used. I don't like to be beaten by Mother nature, so work with her. All greens soft fruit and sweetcorn go in the freezer. Did you get any of that rain that came by us.
Wow cool to see how you're doing things, definitely need to work with mother nature that's for sure. Wonder how deep a cellar needs to be in the ground in hot countries like this to keep things cool over summer? We don't seem to be getting any of the rain you guys are getting!!! Some people saying it's worst drought since 1976 here! All good though, it's fun to find new solutions to things, next year we'll be more prepared with our big new water tank!
@@ladyandtheowlman Thought you must have drowned in all the rain you are not getting. Yes 76 in U.K. was about the worst on record, had just started life on my own farm 2 years previous so got really hammered that year. I would think you need to go about 10-15 down there the temperature evens out more so should keep a steady 10 c. This year so far is not a problem as the coldest and wettest since I arrived here in 20 and crops doing pritty well if a little late. Weather feels more like England than Portugal. No doubt that will change when we reach July, unless mother nature as other things in store. Spain never sat well in my book when thinking of pulling up roots, but each too his own. My water supply is spot on this time as my res walls have sealed so no 10,000 gallons more than last year and only used 4 times I think so far this year.
I would be this in an instant! But not alone, otherwise I would be a blah, it's the reason you all 3 are so fucking BLEWSED, the complete family to make it perfect. Never leave or betray one another, don't let any bullshit influence any of you, please. You have love, peace and happiness. NEVER LOSE THAT DAMNIT

What a beautiful life for your lovely little Sage. God bless
Thank you so much for the kind comment! Sage brings us so much joy, he is hilarious, and so cute, he spent all of today chasing lizards around, he knows them all very well, and fed one of them a lettuce leaf which surprisingly it ate and enjoyed! The rest of the time he replicating the sounds of the toads in the spring, and chasing after sheep and birds, sometimes he runs away for a long time even at the age of 2, searching for animals and adventuring on his own!

From South Africa --- newsflash --- You do need a bakkie !
Hi Henry from South Africa! Thank you for your comment! Is a bakkie a pickup truck? Yes we definitely need one of those haha! When we've saved up a little more money we'll get one for sure! Any recommendations? ❤️
Ha ha, the olive tree conversation, that is Paul and I every day lol
Haha yes this is the conversation around every decision! No wonder it takes so long for us to do anything. Your channel is cool! How on earth do you look after 140 acres of land in Australia!? That's a big job
@@ladyandtheowlman thank you! it is a big job but we just let the land look after itself mostly!
Good advice!
Immer wieder Hammer...😄❤❤❤
Vielen Dank für die Liebe und Unterstützung, Franz! Bedeutet uns die Welt!
What a ludicrous idea, “to much concrete” aren’t words that should even be whispered.
Hahaha love it
Hey guys.....we are missing you!!!!
Even a short vid saying hi would be great....at least we would know all is well with the 3 of you :)
Why build the toilet outside and far away, Don't you think it would have been easier, cheaper and less time consuming to have done inside the house ?
ABSOLUTELY! But as with every project we do, we have a small idea that suddenly snowballs, and we just can’t stop 🤣😅🤦🏻♀️
he is a handsome adorable little boy. be careful about those big birds, stay close to him.
Same country, similar situation. Little Spanish Farmstead on UA-cam.
Thanks for your comment Jerry, we appreciate the support! We've checked out some of their videos, they make some really cool content, a very unique filming style, we've actually learnt a few things from them already!

We need a new video! You guys are one of my favorites!
Hi. Maybe use these to keep boars and other predators away
Zon scare guns are the most user friendly propane cannon in the world.
Thanks so much for these kind words, it gives us such great motivation! Kia kaha - love it!
In time to come the roots of that olive tree will tear apart that wall and the stairs you should listen to your husband
I do agree with her that olive tree look nice there
Robbie made some good points about the branches getting in the way and slapping you in the face as you head up the steps on a cold winter's night (my embellishment), the wild sheep/mouflon will attack it, like they have attacked many of their new trees, or the unstable steep slope above it will slump down and wipe it out, or it will be 25 yrs before it produces a crop ...
On the otherhand, who cares; it looks great, branches can be trimmed and the slope may be good for many, many years! So what if the sheep eat it?
🙈🤣 Only time will tell! My motto is, put it there and if we need to cut it down, we cut it down 😅
Appreciate your agreement Andrea! 😅🌟💖
He's made a good job of that, looks really nice. And Robbie is right, never enough concrete. Are you going to plant the toilet roof? It's thick enough
Hey Dave! Yes - we are planning on making the toilet a green roof. I guess the next thing is to pour a concrete lip around the edge, Robbie’s going to be thrilled 😅 Just got to find the right type of plants for the scorching Spanish summer.
Un poco loco,la condena de Ulises mover piedras de un lugar a otro j
it was necessary to concrete the metal posts near the stairs and make a railing, or make them on the other side.
Thanks Alex! Yes I think you're right, we've decided a railing does make sense. And yes good idea putting it on the other side, then it can be a shorter railing with less posts!
keep the honey bee too, location is very good for honey bee
Thanks for the comment! We do actually have 2 bee hives, but we haven't been able to maintain them very well, there is so much skill needed to look after bees we now realise! We will definitely try again in future because we love honey and it's so healthy for you!
You can seal the tank with concrete and supper glue😂
24:50 haha my guy😂
Hahaha, it always has to end with throwing it as far away as humanly possible! ❤️
Why not build the filter beds out of block work and face them? Didn’t seem too easy to reinforce the plastic but the result 👌
In the end, I think that would have been a valid approach too! It started with just digging two plastic containers in the ground, and snowballed from there 🙈😅
Your olive will produce some Olives in 2years as it produces fruit on last years wood, but they don t go too well with spuds, onions and carrots.
Thanks for the info Robert 🌱🧡
Beautiful location. The bins should be removeable, o7
I have been waiting for you for a long time, my dears
Thanks so much for the kind words Nachat!
Is there ever enough concrete..Nice work your son can even climb the rock steps..brmmm brmmm..So Cute
HAHA. brrmmm brrmmm 🌟🧡
1st time on ur channel, loved what i just saw, but the amount of concrete used is smth else :d (and i used to work in constructions :) )
@@ladyandtheowlman ❤
Plenty of opportunities for lamb stew over there…
Haha yes absolutely!
Thanks so much for the kind words! We really appreciate the love. It's comments like this that make us forget all about our challenges and be super grateful, so thank you!
