This drill has helped so many people including myself. I was trying to communicate it properly with my dad last weekend but he was too tired already to process it. I'm going to send him this video because it's great stuff.
Good stuff Steve , I think it’s been proved that you have to take it back briskly to increase club head speed and as you say too slowly can result in rushing it from the top and actually slowing down at impact. This looks great for club head control 😊
Nice work Steve 👏 would love to see a video with regards to using the GEM... specifically from P2 to the top and back down to P6... the GEM has helped from waist to waist and getting through the ball but I get lost from p2 to p6 thanks
As usual , Steve shows ways to deal with various issues with one swing thought/process. Of course shorter backswing equals more control but until you try it, it is not clear just how much power and speed can be produced , and it is correctly applied to back of ball...smaller dispersion, better strike, longer distances.....all good. Why overswing ever again? Brilliant stuff, again!!
Hi Steve, Some practice ideas As a junior we were not allowed on the course until 11am, so practiced every day early. We developed lots of practice games. Set a bag at 70 yards. Hit through your iron bag to that yardage, so 3 iron to SW, get proficient with every club to a yardage. Next, blind golf. Same yardage, address the ball and picture the shot you are about to play, close your eyes, execute, creates feel, knowledge of where your hands are, trust in your body and swing. Eventually, we played full rounds of blind golf, I did this against members for cash, naughty, but very profitable as they gave me odds. Dropped from 12 to +2 in 18 months. Now in my 60’s, started blind golf practice again, will I make any money?? Hope so, I’ll give it to the Captains charity, with a grin. Might help your pupils liven up their practice sessions
@@stevejohnstongolf of course I challenged them off scratch, so an 18 handicap was sure he would win against me blind, not a chance. Lee Trevino pressure, play for £5 with only £3 in your pocket. Sharpens the mind, and be assured blind golf will teach feel like no other drill.
Tried this at the range in the week and on the course today, nett 66 was the result, having played pretty poorly in the last few weeks. Will go back to the range again this week and hone it further.
Been doing this a while gave up distance but I'm scoring better enjoying golf more.....trying to get my backswing longer to increase distance keeping intent/aggression through impact but struggling....any advice on that Steve?...👍⛳️👍
From what I've heard & read, the only person who ever hit it straight every time was Moe Norman. I believe that even Tiger said he was the best ball striker ever.

I did this this week and played the best all season. So easier to control and I actually gained distance from hitting it on the sweet spot more often.
Another great video Steve.

Great advise, short swing more consistent follow through. Try it this afternoon
Great video. I did exactly that on the weekend. Had best round for 5 years despite not playing much for last two months due to Welsh weather.
Great tip , I have the same issue follow through.
Great drill Steve, I definitely need this with driver.
Thanks Steve

Makes perfect sense. I play better when I do this, but then revert back to longer swings.
Brilliant 👍👍
Mike's issues sounds like another Mike I know, shorter backswing is definitely the way to go, another great lesson, thanks
Great tips Steve

That’s brilliant, I love that. Thanks very much for sharing.👍

Looks like the slap shots the guys playing ice hockey 🏒 deliver.
Steve... I notice when you finish the swing it appears your weight is on the left heel. Is that conscious?
Yeh that’s the plan
This also encourages higher flight, low point ahead of ball…..all good!
I resemble the pupil 🤷♂️⛳️
I want to be like Mike

Nice ,gonna try it out ! U might get some coin from me yet .
Feel like I'm losing my tempo
