- Sky News host Paul Murray says Anthony Albanese issued an apology for his Tourette’s comment after “everyone in the press gallery had gone home”.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese during Question Time on Tuesday appeared to look at Shadow Treasurer Angus Taylor before he said: “Have you got Tourette’s or something? You know you just sit there, babble, babble, babble.”
The PM later issued a formal apology for his comments.
Albo, Mr double standards, please do us all a favour and resign.

Anthony Albanese should resign as PM and also from the Labor Party. What he said today accusing a peer of having tourettes is utterly vile and abominable behaviour. Albo even admits it should never have happened. And to think he wants to regulate the speech of other Australians via ACMA is just the poison cherry on top. Resign Albo you bring shame and darkness on all Australians.

Interesting that he refers to it as a disability when it doesn't qualify for the NDIS because it isn't considered a permanent disability because it can improve for some people in adulthood. Tell that to those with Tourettes with severe impairment who get no support at all unless they have other qualifying diagnoses, even those at older ages.

I am an adult with Tourette Syndrome and support group leader within Greater Western Sydney. The way I view it, while we still live in a world where I still cop abuse in medical situations for seeking care, where I have to go into school to remind teachers that Tourettic children are protected under the DSE 2005 and have a right to access education, and still get mocked and mimiced in public... It doesn't matter which side is in power. It was wrong. The Tourette's community have been begging for support for years. Begging to be seen for our humanity we were used as an insult. Apologies or not, we deserve better. An empty apology doesn't take back ignorance and it doesn't fund the research into treatment, it doesn't actively support the programs we need to ensure awareness or further community understanding of what can be a debilitating and isolating condition. I would be happy to run an education session for the PM or any of the ignorant politicians in the chambers who laughed at his remarks
