It’s crazy that you said that! Last night at Pete’s Place, this guy was showing me a whole different two-step. He said that’s what the KC 2-step used to be. It was different from what we do now. I had never seen it before.
@The Kansas City Two-Step Yes it is different. We had to learn the basic step growing up. It was a requirement. My mom says the KC 2-Step that she knows is based off the Lindy Hop. And Chicago's 2-Step is literally based off a 2 step. She used to 2-Step in Chicago in the 60s and 70s, too.
Most of what was shared as Jitterbug is known as Collegiate Shag, a wonderful two-step dance. The Jitterbug is also a simplified appropriated version of Lindy Hop. The swing dance community is striving to be better at using the actual Black social dance names which is some progress. I'm trying to figure why today's Kansas City 2-Step is not the same KC 2-Step my mom and her sisters did in the sixties to present day.
