yeah, i was hoping they would do 'june is bustin out all over' (one of my faves), we would have seen more of the cast perform. still a lovely performance and choreo though!
A pity that the Carousel revival in 2018 at NYC's Imperial theater closed after a short run despite winning some awards. It was well presented version of the show, but I remember it from when it first came out, and appeared in a production in 1966, so maybe I am old fashioned. I think Rogers and Hammerstein would have liked this 2018 offering.
The only songs from Carousel I’m already familiar with are You’ll Never Walk Alone, If I Loved You and June is Bustin Out All Over. But the choreography here isn’t even half bad.
Blow high, blow low A whailin' we will go We'll go a whalin' a sailin' away Away we'll go Blow me high an' low For many an' many a long long day For many an' many a long long day! The people who live on land Are hard to understand When you're lookin' for fun They clap you into jail! So I'm shippin' off to sea Where life is gay an' free An' a fella can flip a hook In the hip of a whale Blow high, blow low A whailin' we will go We'll go a whalin' a sailin' away Away we'll go Blow me high an' low For many an' many a long long day For many an' many a long long day! It's wonderful just to feel Your hands upon the wheel An' listen to wind a-whistlin' in the sail But I'm climbin' off to be The very first to see A crysanthymum spout Come out o' the snout of a whale Blow high, blow low A whalin' we will go We'll go a whalin' a sailin' away Away we'll go Blow me high an' low For many an' many a long long day For many an' many a long long day! A-rockin' upon the sea, your boat'll seem to be Like a dear little baby in her bassinet For she hasn't leaned to walk An' she hasn't learned to talk An' her little behind is kind of inclined to be wet Blow high, blow low A whalin' we will go We'll go a whalin' sailin' away Away we'll go Blow me high an' low For many an' many a long long day
Dyuti Basu Thank you for the lyrics, except the line in the 2nd verse is: “Or to climb aloft and be- the very first to see-a chrysanthemum spout come out o’ the snout of a whale”.
Kenneth Wayne Yes-you’re right- and even though this particular verse is often sung by Jigger, it was originally assigned to Billy. He secretly would love the wild freedom of adventurous sailing and escaping an ordinary “domestic” existence. There are many references to flowers in “Liliom” and “Carousel”.Billy, metaphorically, can’t plant flowers and take care of them, like Mr Snow does, but as Julie says he still likes to smell them, so he can still appreciate their beauty(like the beauty of Julie) even if he cannot be a steady provider and cultivator in the relationship.
I don’t know. I did not feel this version. Goodspeed made me bawl my eyes out and feel humor and joy with their small theatre. This is charged with enough dancing to kill a Newsie but I’m not feeling the song. Amar is clearly just there to dance. He’s not a Hugh Jackman.
This choreography is impressicve and its danced exqusitely. But it doesn't feel integrated, it kind of feels like they're just dancing for the. sake of dancing, not. from an emotion stemming from the song. Probably why this was the only, ONLY, production of "Carousel" i've ever seen wehre I left dry-eyed at the end.
i actually kind of agree with this. like... the anything goes tap dance or the seize the day dance from newsies in comparison is so much better than this and thats because the energy in this is for some reason so mundane. idk i just feel like this performance was dry and needed to be integrated better
Totally agree. I was dry eyed too. Too many 'minor' alterations to the book - which weren't minor at all and diluted the drama at the end totally. If you're not a mess at the end of this show something is wrong.
@@partyinthetardis The song is really all about the men in the story asserting themselves. They miss the women - but without them in the mix - they're happy out to sea avoiding the role of bringing up the children.
Spectacular choreography and thrilling dancing. It's the REAL THING ( BROADWAY DANCING THAT IS. AND WHAT A GLORIOUS MOMENT PURE. JOY!!! )
I would have been on my feet SCREAMING
Hot! One of the most exciting R&H numbers. (Cut from the film, I seem to recall.) They do it justice here!
This changed my life when I saw it

cassiopeia Or You’ll Never Walk Alone
This is my favorite song from the show, so I was happy :D although they are missing a verse or two LOL!
I have happy memories of performing this song in an amateur dramatics performance years ago. Great fun, but our dancing didn't come close to this!

Wow these sailors can dance very well I wonder how the Ship stays afloat
I just can’t get enoughhhh
When I learned this in middle school, the lyrics we were taught were "go high go low." I guess you couldn't say the original ...

Half bad? That is what got Justin Peck the job of choreographing the new WEST SIDE STORY film.
Myles Garcia And that's why i came here
Bruh they look like they gliding on the air
Blow high, blow low
A whailin' we will go
We'll go a whalin' a sailin' away
Away we'll go
Blow me high an' low
For many an' many a long long day
For many an' many a long long day!
The people who live on land
Are hard to understand
When you're lookin' for fun
They clap you into jail!
So I'm shippin' off to sea
Where life is gay an' free
An' a fella can flip a hook
In the hip of a whale
Blow high, blow low
A whailin' we will go
We'll go a whalin' a sailin' away
Away we'll go
Blow me high an' low
For many an' many a long long day
For many an' many a long long day!
It's wonderful just to feel
Your hands upon the wheel
An' listen to wind a-whistlin' in the sail
But I'm climbin' off to be
The very first to see
A crysanthymum spout
Come out o' the snout of a whale
Blow high, blow low
A whalin' we will go
We'll go a whalin' a sailin' away
Away we'll go
Blow me high an' low
For many an' many a long long day
For many an' many a long long day!
A-rockin' upon the sea, your boat'll seem to be
Like a dear little baby in her bassinet

An' her little behind is kind of inclined to be wet
Blow high, blow low

We'll go a whalin' sailin' away
Away we'll go
Blow me high an' low

@@anthonysimpsonanygoround8749 I believe the line is 'a chrysanthemum sprout'- not the easiest thing to sing.

i can't be the only one here because of ryan steele, jess laprotto and garett hawe.
I saw Ryan as Jerry in An American in Paris and Jess as Barnaby in Hello Dolly.
Thank Trude Rittman for the dance music.

Amar is a STAR.
I’ll give him credit, here’s clearly talented, but his behavior is unacceptable

Hugh Jackman is not and never will be, a trained dancer.

I also saw the show and was disappointed overall, but this number was my favorite part of the show and glad to see it used for the Tonys...
Lol, but is that the fault of the choreography or the fault of the existence of the song haha! I've always found the song pretty silly

I'm here for Ryan and Garrett
Roman Bas I saw Ryan play Jerry in An American in Paris three years ago
E
This sadly my least favorite song from Carousel😓
My dumb friend send this stuff to me bc if said his gay music teacher send told him to do this!!😂🤣😂
You sound very intelligent.
That's hilarious. I made my students see this show and write all about it. How funny :)
