Was I satisfied with the last match? Clearly not. I wasn’t disappointed though but I think we were one-directional. We didn’t learn from the Tunisia game. We played the 4-4-2 system which made it easy to clip our flanks and overwhelm the only play saddled to create chances - Aribo.
Imagine you were the Ghana coach, you’d bet that Nigeria would’ve come with a 4-4-2. So why did Eguavoen choose to bite the bullet? Don’t know.
We’ve thrived in nuanced 4-3-3 variations. Eguavoen for me, is too predictable. If he repeats this system, the outcome will be the same. I said this days before the first match and I’m still saying here again.
I propose a 3-5-2 or 4-3-3 system. See Elegbete, only a mad man repeats the same feat and expects a different result.
Going forward, Etebo showed he has no business on the bench. Aribo was overwhelmed. Simon and Chukwueze can ONLY play well with overloads (overlapping defenders supporting them and distracting the opponent), Bonke was ruthless but short-circuited. Balogun was a barrel gun, Bassey was built for the African turbulence, Iheanacho has no business starting.
