Sky is better for TV, Virgin is better for Internet.
philxyz ya but if you had choice which package would you get Sky or Virgin, if you chose sky you would get better TV but if you chose Virgin you would get better internet

I am on Virgin. Virgin TV, Virgin Broadband and Virgin Internet. The only thing I don’t have is Virgin Phone. It is a BT Home Phone.
I think Sky and Virgin are good for TV and I have the Full House Bundle for Virgin. The broadband I have is the VIVID 100. Now called (M100.)

Having worked for virgin for 10yrs... Not a sky customer after my discount came off.. I can honestly say with the best experience... Virgins new v6 box is far superior in speed, ease of use and picture quality... Can wait for sky contract to finish now...

Deffo have to go with TiVo it has a technically superior box. TiVo also has 3 tuners as apposed to SKY's two tuners meaning you can record three channels simultaneously. TiVo also has its own dedicated 10mb broadband connection and doesn't need to be connected to a modem or separate internet connection. SKY+ is great if your a moron who finds it hard to do anything other than straightforward channel changing but if you want a product that you can really get the most out of then it's TiVo all the way.
Tivo is ok, its Virgin's customer services that are often very very bad.... google it and you will see that they don't seem to care...
Just to contact virgin on an issue that many others are having. I had to fill out a13 field form & look out my account number, even though (I had already been logged in to their site) If past experience is anything to go by I will probably get a nonsense response telling me to reset my box.

Series Link Problems - VM seem to have the program identifiers and timings wrong again,
- CNN channels, multiple duplicate episodes are recorded and filling up my tivo, and now i have missing episodes, VM seem to have the program identifiers and timings wrong again,
I've reported issues like this to VM staff several times ""for over a year"" and no one seems to be taking any action, for two weeks now the timing has missed one of the shows that normally records multiple duplicate episodes

An other show i watch also fills up my tivo as it records multiple duplicate episodes, CNN's Amanpour. Next time i'm visiting someone with sky I'm going to see if there team have things working smother.

Tivo does NOT use WiFi. It utilizes its own dedicate broadband connection which comes through the same cable as the tv broadcast.

No sorry. because Virgin is cable tv and the tivo box will only accept cable not satellite. And the same would be for SKY except the other way round. Hope this helped!!

Sky is a lot easier to use, but is very limited. Slow for on-demand, and has little choice. TiVo Slow to boot-up, but once it is going, it IS GOING. Super fast 10mbit/s dedicated modem built in. On-Demand is almost instant, and with the Apps' such as eBay and Twitter it does make VM's TiVo box a much better choice.
I am surprised that this review did not point out how slow and laggy the Tivi box is. At time mine is so slow its unusable. Maybe its the case that Sky is just as slow and laggy hence it was not pointed out? I agree that the Tivo is very powerful - the problem is that it is so slow and laggy it's unusable !
TheMetadude sky is not Laggy at all. It's very responsive. would highly recommend it over virgin TV.
Virgin media is so much more advanced,and it just got an update!!!!
Tivo is more intelligent and is a new,fresh,exciting and innovative experience while sky is now a bit stale to be honest.

Sky is much better than Virgin. I'll never forget how unhelpful Virgin was to me when I had technical issues and an overpriced bill. Sky customer services have always been much more helpful and their box is better also.

this video has convinced me not to consider getting a virgin tv service. its shit. sky is far better and far more advanced
I have had Tivo since 2012 and there are some good features, but it is so slow, laggy, pixelation occurs if signal levels drop, was not told that when I joined. Had engineers out to check my levels, and I was told that it is the best I will get. The box is loud at times. Their EPG is cluttered, and does not update any last minute schedule changes. Yes we get on-demand, but it is so slow, BBC Iplayer is always dreadful, I resort to watching it now on my laptop. So time for me to go back to Sky, and I can not wait. Family and friends have Sky, and when I am watching their Sky+ I have to say that Sky is far better. This is just my view from my experience.

I think it depends on the box with Sky. I used to have a really snappy Sky HD box, but it broke, and the one they replaced it with was abysmal. Slow, laggy, constantly freezing, took ages to swap channels.
Have you tried Tivo? It is very slow, laggy. Only last night I press the My Shows button on the remote to access my recordings, 16 seconds it took to load on screen. That is slow in my opinion. When I press the tv guide button it takes 10 seconds to come on. I have my old Sky+ box right to next my tivo, it is now a freesat from sky box, but when I press tv guide on that, 3 seconds at most and it is on screen.
John King Oh God, don't tell me that! I've just upped sticks and moved across the country to a Virgin Cable area, but there's currently no BT Infinity, so I've swapped from Sky to Virgin with Tivo, phone and 100Mb. It's due to be installed next week. I've never had Virgin before, but my Sky HD service has been a bit laggy since I got my new box - I thought I was upgrading. Hopefully your box problems are not a widespread issue.
Have you had any experience with Virgin tech support trying to get it sorted? I would've thought it was their responsibility to replace it.
The one good thing about Virgin is that all servicing and repairs are free, so I have had engineers out, they always say it is to do with signal issues, because it is a cable service, signal issues are a problem sometimes, but they do come out for free, and fix anything for free. That is the best thing. I only noticed issues with my box when they did a software update a few months a go, it seemed to slow it down. Otherwise their broadband for me is superb, I have had no issues at all with it, just tivo seems to be slow nowadays, and it is something that many Virgin customers have said.

I'll let you know how my Tivo box is running when my service is installed. If I've got a new box and updated to the newest firmware with no issues, hopefully you can use that as ammunition for them to get your service sorted. It sucks that something that is conceptually great like Tivo can be turned into a poor service with issues like signal and box quality. I'm hoping that my signal quality should be quite solid, because the Virgin cabinet is right outside my house, only about 5 meters from the driveway. Not far for a cable to travel.
As a cartoon lover, I favor Sky over Virgin Media, simply because Sky has the Pop, Kix and Pop Girl cartoon channels, which aren't on Virgin Media! (Pop is available on WightFibre, though!)
Sky is better because look sky has my channels you can watch, have an easier guide and catch up tv, virgin has to pay for sky channels on their company sky any day.

sky has awful customer service its also much more difficult to get out of the contract with sky i admit virgin isn't perfect but none of these services are perfect but in my opinion its cheaper better and faster than sky plus who wants a satellite dish when you can have neat and tidy cables
Internet is good with virgin, but virgin Tv even with be new v6 box is utter rubbish. The sd channels are garbage for quality picture.
Massive difference to sky, better interface, easier to use and the picture quality is far superior than virgin media. Even with an old sky box without internet the sky picture is amazing.
Really disappointed in virgin for the rubbish as channels.

+RoBbDaBanKk where I live everyone in my street has sky and it works great and we have pretty rubbish weather a lot. It depends where you are because I have friends who's virgin is awful so like I said it depends where you are.
I can't get Virgin Media in my area.

Sky's Interface is better and faster. Tivo is more laggy. But, I like recording more programs with Tivo.
