Was thinking the same thing. I was genuinely inspired by this. What a legendary artist Jimi was. Dusty sounds great here too, Thank you to whoever lovingly restored this audio, Amazing job!
@@brianboyle3998 The problem is with the Hendrix Estate, he has so much unreleased material that they won't let see the light of day. Heartbreaking, it was easier to find bootleg material back in the day on vinyl than it is digitally.
She was so good. One of the best female singers to come out of the UK. I wish we could hear and see a better version. This is what Hendrix came up doing... playing Soul and RnB. He is in his natural element here.
Amazing twist on the classic song "Mockingbird". Jimi and Dusty did a phenomenal duet. Goes to show you Jimi can play anything and play it well. He's not just one dimensional.
I've known about it,(and seen a much better quality version,(film wise,)as far back as 1980.This was in Holland at a Hendrix convention.I also had a Hendrix poster taken from a photograph taken at this very show.I stupidly sold the poster,(and have regretted it ever since.)You can see this poster, very fleetingly near the beginning of this piece of film.
Dusty was huge celebrity in the entertainment world, with her own show very much admired by the mainstream. For her to have the very 'alternative' JHE as guests on her show was quite something! Hendrix was loving it and totally on form. The bass part in this is great, played by Noel Redding. He was really good, loads of enthusiasm, he still had something to prove. This show went out right near my birthday in June '68. I was 15 at the time and well into Hendrix. What a treat. Never thought I'd see any of that show again!
I only found out this extraordinary duet ever happened by reading Inez Foxx’s obit in today’s paper. Apart from highlighting Dusty’s stunningly beautiful voice, it also shows Jimi still had those funky soul music licks down, with a nice added dash of inimitable Hendrix improvisation!
This is more precious to me than diamonds or gold. When I got into Jimi back in the day, there were no biographies or vids. I would not have believed a day would come when there is almost more Hendrix footage than I can watch. He's right on the edge of superstardom when this was recorded.
Thankyou so much for posting this rare treasure of a song. Sadly due to Jimi's untimely death we never got to hear him play with many other musicians and how his career would have developed.
"Showmanship" is exactly the right word, but effortless - they both loved music, and would sing nursery rhymes with kids, if they were somehow in that situation...
I had a mondo crush on Dusty Springfield and back then Jimi Hendrix was my "idol". This is a great video! Thanks. 2 of my favorite people together in one place.
Wow ,never knew this existed.Dusty Springfield was my mum’s favourite singer and jimi Hendrix is my favourite guitarist. To think they actually did a duo …is amazing and surprising .although I know he was a support act for engleburt humpadink.!
THANK YOU, to whoever found and posted this. It must be a "kinescope" recording of "Dusty Springfield Show", in England ( BBC? ) - Now, if anybody has archival recording of Jimi with PETULA CLARK - who he also respected, hearing that would be nice...
@@ExplodingPsyche You're right. I didn't consider "home movie" of TV - but, that practice was usually WORSE, because the frame rates of TV screen, and 12 or 18 frames/ sec of movie cam wouldn't match, therefore created a strobe effect, of a horizontal bar. - This was, of course, prior to videotape/ VCR, invented in early '80s...
You’re linked in the New York Times obituary for the Spinal Tap drummer, Ric Parnell. Parnell age 16 (his father was music director for this program) sat at the feet of Hendrix in this performance which influenced his future career.
To the US audience, she was "under- played", but she hosted her own show in U.K., very popular. Near certain that this TV recording must be from Jimi's guest appearance on "Dusty Springfield Show" ( BBC ? )
@@BobK5 Badly phrased on my part. It’s just a shame that she appears to be largely forgotten apart from those of us in her generation. She was good wasn’t she.
WOW! I'M SPEECHLESS, IT'S A SHAME THEY DID'NT BETTER FILM QUALITY BACK THEN. THEIR VOICES COMPLIMENT EACH OTHER. DUSTY IS ONE OF THE ORIGINAL BLUE-SOUL SINGERS FROM THE 60'S. I LOVE JIMI'S RHYTHM GUITAR RIFFS ON THIS SONG, ALONG WITH HIS LAIDBACK SOULFUL VOICE. LET'S HOPE SOME DIGITAL TECHNICIAN CAN FIND A WAY TO RESTORE THIS GEM.
If you want to really understand the “Depth and all consuming Power of Love!,…Listen to Dusty Springfields!,…”The Look of Love!”,…Fasten your seat belts first!,…she takes you right there!
Jimi actually hated duets because he was still unsure how good his voice was! He refused to do a duet with Lulu on her show and was banned by the BBC for awhile....

I'm a HUGE Jimi Hendrix fan and I have never heard this or knew this existed!!... Jimi could at times be pretty 'freaky'... and I can't help but wonder if these two didn't possibly sleep together!.. ??
This isn't the "Mockingbird" by jimi hendrix that I know of. Are there two......or the name of the song is wrong. What about UFO he did w curtis knight with the kazoo. That is the funniest snog I've ever heard and the version I got on a mix tape from Hoghschool.....can not be found on the internet last time I looked.

That was brilliant! Dusty and Jimi, my God.
There's an elite episode on her in the History of Rock in 500 songs podcast.
Been listening to Hendrix for over 30 years, & still finding stuff I've never seen or heard. Pretty amazing for such a brief career.
Was thinking the same thing. I was genuinely inspired by this. What a legendary artist Jimi was. Dusty sounds great here too, Thank you to whoever lovingly restored this audio, Amazing job!
Me too
I’ve watched Jimi’s clips for 55 years. It’s the first time I ever saw this one.
I read an article that said when Chas Chandler died he had 1,000 hours of unreleased master tape from Jimi playing. Hmmmm

Dusty Springfield is da bomb. She had so much soul, she was totally at home in a duet with Jimi.
Jimi's rhythm guitar playing here is nice and crunchy

Extraordinary, what a huge surprise it is to hear this. Imagine Hendrix as a guest on the muppet show.
Yes!! OMG!
I think about that all the time man. It honestly would've been pretty interesting.
Jimi and animal would have had the most ridiculously awesome jam session.
The two old guys on the balcony would surely complain about how loud the guitar was.
@@BigTrouble324 And make some wisecrack about the guitar being upside down too perhaps.
🙂
What an amazing duet! I cannot believe Dusty sang with Jimmy hendrix! Simply awesome❤
Jimi.
She also got Atlantic to sign Led Zeppelin
Dusty was such a talent with an incredible voice and to duet with the legend that is Hendrix is a joy.

dunno but glad they did!
It was arranged by his manager---for money, of course.
Why wouldn’t he do it?
