    In my humble opinion, this wonderful, iconic hotel/resort is the best on Oahu. Its "old fashioned" nature is part of its charm. The food and service are excellent. The proximity to other restaurants and clubs is another plus. I also agree that there are some very fine hotel/resorts on Maui and the Big Island. A great video down memory lane for this old man.

    I love this hotel so much! I was there in February on my annual Hawaiian holiday from Australia. I went in a tour of the hotel to get more of its history, it's funny that guests in the early days did not like the beach view and preferred the garden view and their servants were left with a beach view! How times have changed. I miss Hawaii so much, I hope we can go back soon

    It's nice to see the old girl again--still standing after all these years. I believe my parents spent a belated honeymoon there after WWII--probably around 1947. They ended up moving to Honolulu in 1970, as did several aunts, uncles and cousins, as well as my best friend. Beach time for me was spent at the far end of Waikiki, near Kapiolani Park. No tourists! I think you would have liked the Hale K. and Kahala mo' bettah, bro! Mahalo and Aloha!

    Truly stunning. Your clips continue to inspire me. Honolulu is my favourite place. Many people would find that strange because it is busy and commercial but I always feel relaxed and at peace. I can’t afford the luxury hotels but excellent accommodation is available slightly back from the beach. As always I use the Royal Hawaiian and Halekalini for drinks and food and the wonderful ambience. It’s been a while since I’ve visited hopefully I’ll get back one day. Thanks for keeping my dreams alive.

    Interesting! Although I've lived on O'ahu for almost 50 years, I've never been in this historic hotel. Never could afford it. 45 years ago, a few of us tried to take a peek at the lobby, but security threw us out. I don't know any locals who go to Waikiki anymore unless they have to work or whatever. Even though I live less then two miles away, I haven't been to Waikiki in decades except to take grandkids to the zoo or aquarium on the fringes. If I want to go swimming, I go elsewhere on island or fly to Kaua'i or Maui, where I stay with relatives. This video is fun! I get to see a part of my home that I've never seen and probably never will.

      well, thats kinda sad to hear that.. is Waikiki exclusively booked only for the hotel guest?
      I think thats kind of evil because beach suppose to be a public space, although I know its kind of common practice anywhere around the world with a large hotel/resort... but still it feels injustice..

    I need to go back to Hawaii. I last went in 2010 and I always stay at the Royal Hawaiian because I adore it. But in recent years I've stopped going and I've been visiting new places. I got back from Vietnam two weeks ago (loved it definitely going back). I went to the Seychelles for the first time in march again loved it. I visited Rwanda in June different but still loved it. And my wife is taking me to Mauritius in a couple weeks time for my birthday. But I still miss Hawaii and I am definitely going back in 2018.
    Thank you for the Vietnam videos I'm so happy I went there that was a great recommendation I am definitely going back.

      Glad that my videos inspired. The Seychelles are among my favorite destinations on earth. What hoteld di you stay at ? I am not a big fan of Mauritius though (sublime hotels, but so-so scenery). It was my third time in Hawaii. There's just something about Hawaii. The scenery is just breathtakingly spectacular.

      the Luxury Travel Expert I stayed at Fregate Island Private in the Seychelles which was absolutely fantastic. It was quiet and luxurious. Everything I could've asked for plus the scenery was gorgeous. I'm interested in what you say about Mauritius but I'm keeping an open mind and not jumping to any conclusions

    • @noahbowie5985
      @noahbowie5985 6 років тому

      The American Travel Expert I stayed at Amanoi in Vietnam it is one of my all time favourite resorts now. It's perfect if you love spectacular scenery and also a quiet secluded atmosphere. I would definitely recommend taking your family there as my family adored it and said they wanted to go back. It's a fantastic place, Vietnam if you're a bit sceptical about it don't be I went and I've fallen in love with the place. So I would definitely tell you to bring your family. You will not regret it.

    Original paintings by Eugene Savage for the Matson Cruise Line in the 1950s are on display in the lobby. The popular Mai Tai cocktail is not spelled Mai Thai. It has nothing to do with Thailand, but was named by Tahitians, and it means, "Very Good"!

    Ha! Ha! I rarely get to take a shower outside of a bathtub. It's a real treat to be in a proper shower stall with loads of room. A tip to keep the shower curtain from billowing in and touching you is to keep about two inches or so open at both sides of the curtain.

    The beauty of the Kahala Hilton is that it’s quieter. There is shuttle service to central Waikiki. My preference is the Halekulani. It’s just a bit more refined for my taste. 😉. I enjoy Oahu because there’s so much to do other than the beach. I have cousins that retired from the mainland. One settled on Oahu (Kahala residential district) and the other to Maui. The Pediatrician like me, went to Oahu and my other cousin, the Oral Surgeon and avid surfer settled on Maui. Fortunately for me, I visit both when I fly to Hawaii. 😁

    • @MarcusLeepapi
      @MarcusLeepapi 6 років тому +1

      Thanks....I was with United Airlines...I started back in 1999 Chicago Base when we still had DC-10s, 727-200s and I recently saw the 747-400s go into retirement by United and a few other airlines. I see British Airways still flying their 747-400s. I called a good friend of mine today and she is there at the Sheraton Waikiki on her layover...During my time flying I flew to Kona on two trips. .I do sometimes miss flying but I gave it ten years of my life and I truly enjoyed seeing the world.

    It was a shame that the front gardens were taken back by the Royal Hawaiian Trust (who owns the land---it's on a 99-year lease) to build a ho-hum shopping mall out in front. The hotel has lovely woodwork and details that don't really show up in video, and it was interesting to see the room reworks. I was last in one of the rooms ca. 2005.
    I like the old girl, but she's not for everyone, and I stay elsewhere but come here for drinks and occasional dining. I recommend the outdoor patio bar by the beach at sunset.

    it's a {good hotel} simply i think, the beach and pools {a lot of people and certainly noise} -the room very basic

    Lovely colour scheme. Less so in the room, though. Surroundings (beach) not so relaxing, unfortunately.

    not one of your better reviews. generic hotel, basic amenities, too touristy, crowded, noisy and not luxe; very "meh", if that.

      As a spokesperson for the poor slob demographic who can't afford to travel much I must say it wasn't all that bad. I fact I found it a wonderfully immersive experience. But as I say I'm poor and can't afford to be picky.

    Doesn't look luxurious at all. Looks like a huge old motel with a tiny pool.

    This place is not for me. Being so popular it attracts too much people. I would prefer a more private atmosphere. Being so many persons around it seems to be dirty and filthy. I remarked some individuals with cloths on them in the pool. Disgusting.

      Sorina Balan do you prefer them to be naked ? I saw one person with a long sleeve sun shirt on in the pool , which is designed to be worn in the water to protect against sun exposure . With your snobish attitude I would doubt you have many friends ? Aloha !
