Beirut had so many stylish mid-century buildings. I wonder how many survived the civil war? Crazy to think that just a decade later this beautiful city became a battleground. I would still like to visit one day, even though I'm sure the glamour is long gone.
The glamour is nowhere near long gone, the city faced a huge reconstruction plan in the early 2000s, it looks absolutely indifferent aside from moteur cables and no road markings
Lebanon was so advanced and classy back then Wow. Lebanon the only country that did not evolve with time . Shame on the horrible politics. Lebanon shall rise again and take the spot they deserve.
I listen to many podcasts, but this one recently was saying that this "golden age" of Lebanon was mainly for the upper classes in Beirut. If you moved further from there, it wasn't as nice. This is normal in most countries; but it was also a high standard of living for a few. They also said that Lebanon didn't plan well enough their economy to adapt to change. And that some key banking business related to travelers with oil wealth, shifted, leading to economic decline. Which in turn helped foment internal divisions leading to the civil war.
I remember some of those scenes. It’s so real. The service and how they drive. Was that the St George poolside? One day Lebanon will recover because the Lebanese people love life. They will make it happen. They will force it to happen.

Indeed so sad destiny... anyway hope to see you in Beirut one day
Most of it is still standing

@theroyalmemes8611 😘
The iconic pool bar @ 8.20! Such cool times. When they renovated the hotel they deemed it too crazy for current mores and removed it. Such a pity.
Pray for Lebanon to be better...
Dude... This looks like Lebanon in 2080. How is there no garbage... The buildings... The cars... Sad
Indeed so sad...
It is so strange watching this video whilst currently living in disastrous Lebanon. It is such a shame
So true and so sad

Indeed .. and the situation in Lebanon now.. is a drama... poor Lebanon
I remember some of those scenes. It’s so real. The service and how they drive. Was that the St George poolside? One day Lebanon will recover because the Lebanese people love life. They will make it happen. They will force it to happen.
I hope sooo much.. poor Lebanon where we arrive with this ugly administration of Lebanon
The people may recover, but the country is so demolished and overbuilt that there’s nothing left to recover.
Trust me, LEbanese people did this to themselves, they will NEVER change....
