Loved it, very versatile and made from what you had lying around. How far down can the router bit go? Its just gotta slightly lower than the lowest part of the sled right?

thanks for watching!! The total depth that my router can go is probably a bit more than an inch total. That is just regular router operations but to answer your question, yes the router bit only has to drop below the router sled. How I have used it so far is to drop the router bit so that it takes off very little material. This results in multiple passes but makes the piece overall nicer. I did try a bit more of an aggressive approach and try to hog out more wood and that just led to more problems and bad cuts.

I've been looking at diys for one of these for about 6 months*, and yours is just about the simplest I've seen. Is the choice of melamine because you had some or because of some particular property of the stuff? (*I'm a total hobbyist, so I can afford to think about things for a while.)

@tonywilliams3812 Thanks for watching!!!! I had the melamine already, from picking up pallets, there was a bunch just laying around. I chose to use that because it was relatively the right size and is dead flat and pretty low friction for sliding the sled on it. I did find that after using it for a while, dust built up and needed to be cleaned, but other than that pretty good overall. Other wood would work of course. Hope this helps, good luck and have fun
