It does work very well when had it had 103 it was 1.3swr 1.2 all bands when trim it down i got 1.1 swr on channel 1 and channel 40 1.2 swr i ran at 50ft rg58 coax i have do more trim on it i lay it on 3 trash cans use paint tape 2 pvc pipes at 103 inches on ch 19 they can hear me this not 4 ft in the air i try my grant and my pc 68ltw .

Help me out with this beginners question. Is a whip antenna required to be mounted in the vertical plane? If so can someone explain why this is so? The reason for the question is mounting a whip under a fiberglass composite roof of a high- top van. I expect there will be a reduction in efficiency. Is it any worse than a whip antenna mounted outside but tied down? Inside the van, there remains above the cab the remnants of the original top which will give a very good ground plane. Or could an antenna made from strands of wire be molded inside the composite top to create a suitable antenna?
