As you all know, a good punter can be an X-factor in a close game where field position is crucial.Didn’t see this coming, but I’m ok with it.
And hopefully we only need to spend on this every five or more years.

I personally love this pick. Taylor has s metal foot and an uncanny ability to put the ball whwre he wants it with precision. You will all love it when the team is having a rough day on offense and Taylor continually pins them within the 10 yard line.

I mean I'm surprised, but i don't hate it. If they think they can sign a FA DE as good as or better than what's available in the draft, why not draft a punter. 5-7 extra net yards per punt doesn't sound like much, but it's pretty huge. Sign a 1 year bridge player at DE and prioritize drafting one next year.

To those Bears fans who may not know much about Taylor. This guy completely changes the game and changes field position with both his hang time and length. He averaged 48 yrds a punt last season. This is impressive because he had 93 punts which one would think would take the average down with more kicks. In addition, he is uncanny at placement and has a toolbox of different kicks and spins. He doesn't kick Rugby style, per se, but can if needed. Iowa trained him to kick traditionally with out going to the side to Rugby kick. But, he did on occasion as needed. He routinely pinned teams inside the 20 and often within the 5. He literally was the reason Iowa won 10 games those couple years. Without him, they would have been .500 - .600 team. The guy has NO weakness and a variety of kicks. It won't take long for Bear's fans to see this.

A great punter is a one of the key components to a winning team. Field position often determines the outcome of a tightly contested game. When combined with a strong defense, it gives you a big strategic advantage. Most fans never appreciate the importance of special teams but the top-level coaches demand it. Good move by Poles.

Today's NFL coaching lacks great field generals. One vital part of playing field position is having a punter with a strong leg a good punter can get you out of a hole or he can pin your opponent deep in his own territory I like the pick!!!
I’m a Hawkeyes fan. This kid is as legit as they come and I’m stoked he’s a Bear. I’m sure don’t have to remind anyone how awful our special teams were last year. It’ll be nice for the defense to not have to take the field at the 40 every time out. And reminder: there was a star studded Chargers team approximately 15 years ago or so that had a stellar offense and a monster defense that ended up laying a giant egg because their special teams were so bad. The Bears are in good shape .. This next year they will be able to see what the need and they should be able to go draft needs .. I also believe that once the team is good poles will eventually get to the point of Drafting best available and if best available isn’t great they will easily move back to put themselves in a good position the following year
With this pick, I think this absolutely signals that Poles is going to make a play for Hendrickson. I'd trade Carolinas 2nd for him in a heartbeat.

We were last in the league in average punt yards last year. Say what you want but this is a huge upgrade from Gill and will be a top three punter in the league as a starter!
Im totally good with this, especially with how bad our punters have been. This guy will put the ball in a position that will give our D more time to work their magic, and make scoring a lot harder. I think Poles did great this draft. For once im actually hopeful for the Bears.

Hot take; for the low price cap-wise of punters and kickers, excellent ones are worth as much as high caliber players at any other position. I dont mind nabbing a potential pro-bowl caliber kicker/punter in the 3rd/4th round.
They can single-handedly save or score points unlike any other position on the field.
Like Lovie always said, "We have to win all three phases of the game."
This will help the defense tremendously with field position.

This pick suprised me in a 4 pick draft for the Bears, I'm really not crazy about it but hey some ppl are saying he's the best punter out of college history etc, & i get the importance of field position but damn still a 4th.
This low key might be the best pick the Bears have made in this year's draft.
