This is one of my faves from them. Whenever I listen to it, even while sober, I feel as if my brain is melting, my body dissolving, my self ascending to the swirling, hazy and droning reverbed guitars. Neil's sluggish singing and Rachel's harmonies elevated me as high as I could, until when the song's over, in which I'm back to reality again.
Morningrise is still their best. Even among their videos and album/ep covers! Really wish this song could be brought back into their 2023 tour setlist.
from kisses to this, and from this to kisses, slowdive has so many shades within it is easy to feel mesmerized. From a 90's song like Morningrise to a 2023's song like Kisses, Slowdive still manages to keep the etherial dream flowing through about 4 minutes ,until I hit replay again.
Completely agreed, I love how fresh their current live setlist sounds, there's so much variety between the all guitar songs and synths/guitar songs. Such a rich and full sound without any samples or prerecorded tracks. It just leaves you wanting for more of it haha.
This is an absolute BANGER. It’s definitely one of my favorites from the “Just For A Day” era. I literally get set into another dimension for the entire duration of this song! “Looking around I see you slip away / you seem more beautiful than yesterday” hits so different, and I don’t really know why. I think it’s because the production kicks into overdrive at that part. Anyway, such a PHENOMENAL song.
I agree. When this song first came out I recall telling some student friends of mine, that I would like to live inside this song. I still feel the same way. It really does transport me to another world. The power of music. The power of Slowdive!!
Totally hypnotized. This song is a perfect wall of sound from my point of view. I love the video, especially the stroboscopic part, especially when Rachel appears……
Saw these cats twice this year and met some of the members. It must be true what they say: some people were born to be cool and stay young forever! Musically this song and EP is one my favourites by anyone. Visually, I think they all look great here, but the final focus on Rachel's angelic face is such a perfect finish. Beautiful noise indeed 😊
Absolutely gorgeous. That huge roar of a guitar, similar to Shields's glide sound, soaring like a jetstream over the slowed-down disco beat, gives the whole piece a thrilling edge which you can hardly imagine any of today's bands even beginning to attempt. A beautiful, dreamlike journey.
Martin Nichols did a perfect job of the production on this. They had some really gifted producers and engineers around that time like John Leckie and Alan Moulder. I've done some amateur production work in the past and I appreciate how incredibly difficult it is to get this kind of music with so many effects to not sound like a muddy mess.
Alan Moulder is a genius. He was behind so much of the shoegaze sound. Duplicate the guitar track, and slightly alter the EQ banding on each guitar is one of the big secrets of this wall of sound.
This song has a heavy feel to it, and yet it's also textbook shoegaze with a thick wall of sound. It's just not of the aerial kind of shoegaze we hear on the follow-up album, JFaD. I still have this EP sealed in its original wrapping!!! Interestingly, I think Slowdive has been revisiting their heavier side with their latest album "everything is alive".
JFAD could have had a better mixing but it was such a sonically cohesive amd expansive album, with Everything Is Alive I also feel they sort of captured that one more time.
My favourite music video of all time. Perfectly complements the music and even lifts it to another level. Sheer perfection in every way. Have watched this video hundreds of times since I first saw it in 1991 on a BBC Two music show called, I think, Snub TV.
I cross the field and watch the sun go down A million people clap, it makes me frown Looking 'round I see you slip away You seem more beautiful than yesterday The devil takes my mind but I don't care He gives me all his love, he gives me air Don't pay it any mind I'm losing all the time
I REALLY regret not being into Slowdive. At the time there were great bands like Orbital, Shamen, Prodigy on the dance side and Lush in the shoegaze scene. Slowdive though, experienced and skillful guitarists. They have been around for decades.
Similar, Slowdive slipped past, Ride, Stone Roses, Orbital, found these guys later (2010)....just blew me away....every song is just at it....this and Sleep....perfect.
I love this video. Rachel, Neil, and Simon are all very good looking... but why do we see Nick only twice? Once from the top of his head, and once more for about 30 ms in the chorus strobe. 🤷🏻♂️ Dude is the heart of the band. 🤘🏼
Это одна из самых прекрасных и завораживающих вещей которые я только слышал. Спасибо им за всё, что они делают. Это останется со мной на долгие годы. 🖤
This song is essentially ethereal and different from any song I ever heard in my life,I was 22 by the first time I listened to this masterpiece, made me feel floating and still makes me so...
I would like to go back in time to the day I heard this song for the first time. The most beautiful experience I have ever had, like being hit by a truck in slow motion.
They were a bunch of kids. And they created something so magical. Never underestimate young people.
or people in general . their experience with music has helped them create new magic, in a different contaxt, but still magical
Shoegaze is my fav genre of all times.

How do you think they went about recording this?
Yup, the amount of clashing reverbs..yikes.
Sounds like lots of Mid/Side EQ and compression ducking.
Alan Moulder is a genius. He was behind so much of the shoegaze sound. Duplicate the guitar track, and slightly alter the EQ banding on each guitar is one of the big secrets of this wall of sound.
After all these years and many recordings, still my favorite Slowdive song.
"Beautiful Noise"
The devil takes
My mind but I don't care
He gives me all his love
He gives me air....
That line is simply epic
i wanna learn how to edit videos like these
@Dino Dino this video came out in the 90's, the vhs effect is from the actual tape itself
So, did you learn?

Que maravillosa música la de esta banda!!
Acabo de descubrirlos y no paro de escucharlos!

This song makes me joyfull and a little sad at the same time, Slowdive is the best shoegaze band ever!!!
Have a listen to 'Whirlpool' by Chapterhouse. Just as good.
Saw them live in sao paulo. Tinnitus buzzing in my left ear, till this day.

That lovely chord sequence from 3.15 though....fantastic
best official video ever
Mmmmm... these sounds.
You seem more beautiful than yesterday.
Love that high lead sound which sounds like a synth. Love it all in fact.
music .... this performance is suitable for sunset
I always loved this song, it starts off very noisy and brash, only to reveal a fragile and enchanting melody within.
This is original, I remember when it was played on MTV Europe's 120 Minutes in February 1991!
Una muy buena compañía nocturna
deverdad que si
I´m 53,11th july 2022,I´m and I´ll always be pleased at most for listening Slowdive songs!
