Thank you for the beautiful video. Many beautiful pictures. Owned the R1 for a few days, absolutely outstanding, use the R1 much better than the R5 and the Nikon Z9. The camera has the best autofocus of any brand in my opinion at the moment. The 24 megapixels in this quality are absolutely sufficient for me. Wish you all the best, health and success in the new year, good photo weather and beautiful subjects for all of us. Greetings Peter E.
Thank you, thank you Peter. This body just blew my mind with how good it is. I need to see a couple of things and then I will get it - a beast of a body. Happy new year - sitting here at my computer doing what makes me happy safe in my home. Talking to you with my little blind deaf Yorke assistant who loves me unconditionally in my lap - the best way to start a new year. Be safe and have a fantastic new year. 🙏💖🤗
I thought of you yesterday when two adult bald eagles flew across the road in front of us while on our way to see Short Eared owls. I got some images of a juvenile and later an adult that I will share later on IG. We saw 12 of them before 11am. Unfortunately the fields with the voles are flooded so at least for now the owls have gone somewhere else. You got some beautiful images. I love the quail images. They are a challenge to get. There are about 2 dozen that live on my Mother In-laws farm but they are still very shy. I love Turkey Vultures. I need more images of them. That location looks amazing.
The next time you guys are out this way, lets go shoot there. I was excited to get those little Quail - I was worried that I would not. I actually went there looking for eagles LOL. This body is so amazing that I may rent it for Arizona unless I have purchased one before then. The AF is off the charts amazing. I keep debating about Washington as a spur of the moment but I cant wait much longer. For sure in December of next year and I will plan it early and hope for the best weather. 🙏🤗💖
You brought back some fond memories about playgrounds. Remember sandboxes? Who knew about stray cats and their poop in those days? Great images of the vultures and mockingbirds. Yes, they're common, but not to be overlooked. P.S. that warbler is probably a hybrid Audobon's/Myrtle going by the white edging around the throat and the lesser barring on the wings (per Sibley). Cool video!
Thank you, thank you!!! I forgot about sandboxes - and old tractor tires we had in out playground as well. When I walked on that spongy base, it was like walking on a trampoline - these kids have it so cushy. I tell folks that I am photographer that like to shoot wildlife. I put photos into google and let the AI identify them for me and I go with that. This R1 really blew me away as far as the AF goes and the images. Defiantly worth the price for the performance. 🙏🤗💖
Thank you but I dont like lens coats personally. The plate I have on there is for the mono pod I use, but I do have a longer one that I can use when or if I take my gimbal. But I stopped that as well because I prefer the flexibility of hand holding - quicker and I think you miss too many shots messing with the gimbal or monopod.... but I have them. I kept thinking I was going to pull the monopod out so I left the foot on there but I should take it off. Next time. 🙏🤗💖
Absolutely amazing images with that setup John!👏😍 You must have massive storage and super fast processor on your computer to keep shooting all those burst photos, which I love. I imagine you offload a lot to external storage drives, but still……..anyway, loved the video.
Thank you Bill. I had this computer built for me for editing a couple of years ago and I love it. I have a total of 6 terabytes internal, I have (2) 12 terabyte drive for storage as well and several other 2 TB storage drive. The bursts for me and without buffering is an important things for me and the way I shoot. I did hit the buffer shooting at 40 FPS, but if I drop it to 20 and shoot cRaw, I would never hit it. Heck, even shooting bursts at that frame rate with pre-capture on is a LOT of photos...... and they are all in focus. Blew me away. 🙏🤗💖
Thank you, thank you, thank you. This body impressed me like I can not tell you. I love the R3 but this is so much more advanced all the way around. It did miss focus when a branch was in front but that was rare. It is a beast. 🙏🤗💖
I would dearly love that but would either drive or go by train. I can not deal with the flight delays, cancelations and rude folks who seem to have grown up without manners. LOL. I drive. As far as post processing, I use light room classic. I first hit the auto button to see what it gives me, pull the highlights all the way down, pull the whites down a bit, push the contrast up, then sharpen slightly with a global mask at the bottom near where it shows the lenses, them mask the subject to bring it out a bit, them the background and reduce the noise (I HATE noise and the film look), then click the enhance button. I do crop and sometimes quite a bit. That is why I show them zoomed in then out so you can see that there is a great deal of detail but the photos are clean. If you get out here, would love to shoot together and i will be in Arizona April 23rd shooting at the Paton Center for Hummingbirds at least one day and then the Sweetwater wetlands another day....... 🙏🤗💖
Some amazing work with the R1, especially the shot at ISO 51,200 in your other video. You mentioned that you prefer the R3 over the R5 ii when it comes to noise in high ISO. Can you do a comparison of the R1 vs R3? What I hear others say, is that if you have an R3, then you may not necessarily need to upgrade to an R1 because if the nominal changes. However, if you don’t already have an R3, then you should bypass the R3 and get the R1? What do you think? I’m mainly a sports photographer but I think your bird photography scenarios can carry over into the sports world. Thanks for sharing your views so soundly and unbiased.
@ So what you’re saying is that I can get an R3 and save about $2k by not getting an R1 and get similar or better pictures taken at high school stadiums and gyms? If so, hallelujah! Thank you!
It was a sad afternoon dropping the R1 off to go back to the rental house. I own both the R3 and R5II so I could do a noise comparison with those (the R5II would be dismal at least in my opinion), and the high ISO performance in the R3 and R1 are about the same and the sharpness is about the same as well. Past that, I personally think the two are night and day different. The AF is the absolute best I have used. I really want one but can not justify the cost until I get rid of the R5II. In my opinion, it was released too soon and still needs a lot of work. It would have been better in a pro sized body and more time in R&D. In my opinion, shooting the R1 was equivalent to gong from a DSLR to an R5 or Sony with eye tracking. I will keep shooting the R3 or the R7 until I get an R1 - it really was that amazing. And heck, I would take an R8 over the R5II - it is the second biggest purchase regret I have had - not worth the price. Thanks for letting me share. 🙏🤗💖
Remember my dad taking us camping there when I was a little kid back in the late 70s, early 80s if Lake Cachuma was full. Are the tarantulas still there, would see them walking around the campground in the morning.🕷👀
I have no idea. I did not see any when I was there, but I am going back there with the R3. I have not been there in such a long time and I it was fun. If I see some, I will put them in a video!! 🙏🤗💖

I would suggest you to get some lens coats and as a longer plate for your lens.

The sharpness from the R1 with 24 million pixels is amazing. Greetings Wim

JP can you describe some of your post processing? Love your videos. Next time you're in Georgia stop by. We have some great photo opportunities.

It’s been tested and the R3 sensor has better dynamic range than the R1. That said image quality goes for the R3.

@@3-piece129 it’s true. Go to canon rumours it have the test there

@@dragSD666 Tested in a lab but not real world where we all use them. The R1 AF is far superior hands down. 🙏🤗💖
