The integration of various specalists into a single formation makes a lot of sense for a small army. Swedish military thinking for the last century has focused on fighting an invasion on Swedish soil, with disruptions to infrastructure and communication. Brigades, battalions and even companies are designed to be as self-sufficient as possible, hence the presence of specialist troops at all levels of command.
Yes, at least for a small army that it it is attacked will be so from a huge one. Brigade made to be able to fight one when central command and Division is taken out, Battalions to fight on without the Brigade, when that goes down Companies without the Battalion and so on down the structure. In theory keeping on fighting as long as any soldiers are left..

I'm glad to see my country finally awaken the sleeping lion that have been in a slumber for far too long. Still ways to go, but we haven't seen activity like this in Sweden since the Cold War. The dismantle of the Swedish military after the collapse of the Soviet Union was a big mistake.

If the Russians want to get here they need to get through you guys, it did not work well the last time they tried. Or if they are lame they go around from the sea. As we say, Finland is Swedens best defense 😉
Sweeden is filled with huge forests and mountains. The entire land is basically a mountain chain. Movement is hard around there. If you attack sweeden without engineers around, you will be cut of by forests, briges and rocks all the time. It is a must if you wish to fight there. Also, infantry is super effective in mountains and forests. If your tanks do not have infantry support, they will get blow up left and right. Infantry can be sneaky and very well hidden from both roads and air.
The true beast is the Archer, 155 mm howitzer. It's autoloaded, the crew don't have to dismount when firing. It can adjust the muzzle velocity by loading a different number of propellant bags and bleeding pressure from the barrel. This means it can launch a salvo of seven grenades that arrives on target simultaneously, with the vehicle moving out before the grenades impact.
Yeah not having to carry everything is a massive bonus for mechanized infantry, and you also have a bunch of assets always close by; mines, atgms and machine guns. Not to mention the IFV itself and its autocannon, sensors and other equipment. In bad weather it's particularly nice since you're essentially riding around with a little house, all warm and dry whenever you get to go inside it, though I'll say this works much better in the cold. The bad side being at least for some is that you're mostly in the thick of it. From the dismount perspective you're essentially doing a high tempo mission, getting inside your ifv and pretty much immediately falling asleep before waking up to the order to dismount again, whether that be for another task or just making camp. Another big bonus is that since you're carrying so much stuff you're not as dependent on logistics. Got plenty of food, water, ammo and gear to make by comfortably for a few days at least. But when you need to stock up, you need a larger logistics support of course.
Also here's a particularly underrated video of a combined mechanized force very much like in this video, doing a live fire attack drill. Filmed in chaotic pov style. ua-cam.com/video/Lw1OADNivV8/v-deo.html If anyone has similar videos to recommend, please do.

I did two tours in Afghanistan but I wasn’t on a STRF 90 since I am a “jägare”. But we worked a lot with the infantry on them and I can tell you that they weren’t mounted that often other than during transport. I assume that is mostly due to what type of combat that went down and the fact that you need to walk around a lot in cities and clear compounds.
Great video, really enjoyed it and your commentary. CV90 is amazing and very versatile. 15 different CV90 versions available. So versatile is probably an understatement if anything.😂 And in the picture you said "he looks angry" the guy on the left in the picture was our king, so he was probably very focused to not mess up.😂 And the island is Gotland which is VERY strategically important for the Baltic and it is known to be of great interest to Russia in case of war. So to keep that protected is very important. Also, "pansarbandvagn" basically means "armored tracked vehicle".😁 I think I've covered most of what I wanted in this comment now.😂 Great video as always.😁

Pioneers are an older term, Engineers and Pioneers are normally lumped up under the term Engineers, but Pioneers used to have a more recon-esque focus, going ahead to prepare the way for other troops by for example blowing up obstacles while Engineers focus on fortification and construction. I think one thing forgotten in the video is that the home guard will not have access to as many heavy vehicles (especially tanks). So those will be operating more like US light infantry.

Was armored infantry squadleader 20 years ago. Different set up back then with two KSP58s, a Gustav crew and the two leaders with an AT4 and the AK5B each. Battalion exercises was 99% supporting the tanks mounted. But platoon and company exercises were 99% training for the dismounted combat. The origin of our armored infantry was German tactics in WW2, where their grenadiers would follow their tanks into combat in halftracks, and more often than not fight mounted. So it's a tried and tested tactic. Basically, if the enemy has to stop to dismount in order to fight, swedish troops can push on and outmaneuver the enemy and still be able to fight mounted. Not sure how they do things these days, but as far as I know, the armored assault on foot is still a thing. Basically, mortars hit the enemy location while the CV90s advance, tanks supporting with direct fire. 120mm mortars, 40mm autocannons and 120mm tank cannons should cause some damage is the theory. Then, the infantry dismounts within 50m of the enemy location and pushes in to finish the job point blank. All I can say is that I had alot of fun during my time as a conscript 😂

As a retired Swedish CV9040 Gunner doing my military service in the late 90s(I1/FO44) I can firmly say that the new setup and model makes a hell of a more sense. During my time the Tank regiments were external and we were not integrated like this. We also had no indirect fire support integration.
Up until early 2000, all swedish men (for women it was optional) everyone was expected to do 6-9 months mandatory service, that is why we can mobilize 70 battalions. In 2010 it was fully optional, but there is now talk about reinstating mandatory service. The National Guard is fully optional, but have (to no big supprise) seen a big raise in applications the past year. When it comes to armament, it is not very strange we have a lot of options and able to use a lot of artillery, anti-tank and anti-air weapons. I meen... we manufacture the most used AT weapons in the developed world (The Carl-Gustav and the AT4). I guess you already know about it, but check out the Archer artillery system. The reason why Finland & Sweden may have aligned themselves with NATO over the current Ukraine/Russia war is precisely because a short boat trip and a couple minutes jet flight from St Petersburg, Russia could simply command an island or southern Sweden and have easy access into Germany, Poland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland from that location - as well as easily being able to overpower smaller regions along the Baltic Sea (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania) - to link a corridor along the Baltic to Kaliningrad (still Russian territory). Gotland holds a supremely defensive position for the entire region.

My take on the whole Swedish guerilla tactic debate would be that Swedish battalions are made to function indipendently. Because we have such a small force at our disposal we cant realy meet enemies head on, but would instead have to rely on stealth and harrasing the enemies suply lines. So it's not a guerilla war exactly, since the chain of command is still there. But it relies on the same strategies. Just the thoughts of an old Swedish grunt.
As a Swede, i gotta say im not sure our own government or military even knows what purpose Swedish Military have had the last 15 years. The CV90 is one of the most versatile vehicles out there. The go from IFV, SPAA, Light tank and SP mortar carrier
Lots of Navo countries have bought these babies and they like it alot
As a civilian who's lived on Gotland ( yes, on not in 😉 ) all my life. I can say with all my heart I really appreciate the reinforcements and that we're seen as a priority to defend!
I have to admit I'm not interested in learning Russian so I'm glad Sweden is still interested in keeping us 😅😂
Oh those times in the finnish military when we had to train dismounting in the middle of the night with no sleep for a few days in rain and muddy roads. Sucked then but miss it now!
Sidenote: The AK4 DSG is just a "normal" AK4 with the butt and handguard changed to a polymer one from Sphur Weaponmanufacturing (along with a 4 time scope instead of the reddot of course)
And the foto from 24:18 is from P10 in Strängnäs some 100 kilometers south of Stockholm and the guy in parade-dress is actually our current king! (the Swedish tank museum is also located in that town)
Keep up the good videos!
Much love from a soldier in the Homeguard of Sweden!
many years ago ,1966 when I did the last part of my Royal Marine training ( 6 week Commando Course ) we had attached to our Squad a Captain from the Swedish Coastal Defense Force, their Marines, to use18-19 year old's he was ancient, he must have been all of 35, he completed the course and was awarded his Green Beret. he was the first Swedish Marine to earn one, he has always stuck in my memory as a determined and 'hard' man.
the royal marines laid the ground work for the swedish coastal defence regiment "Küstjägerna" = "the marine regiment"
I'm glad to see my country finally awaken the sleeping lion that have been in a slumber for far too long. Still ways to go, but we haven't seen activity like this in Sweden since the Cold War. The dismantle of the Swedish military after the collapse of the Soviet Union was a big mistake.
Anti-Aircraft platoon is something new for an American that is used to having air superiority always? Who would've thought :D
Greetings from Finland, love your content.
🤭
Filmed in chaotic pov style. ua-cam.com/video/Lw1OADNivV8/v-deo.html
If anyone has similar videos to recommend, please do.
NATO mine layers have moved to Gulf of Finland now... damn, feels so unreal. Its good thing that swedes have been more active recently.
24:17 The king of Sweden Carl XVI Gustaf on the left in the tank. What a legend
Proud to be from Sweden when i saw this video. And the old man who stand on one of the tanks was the swedish king Carl-Gustav. And we have our airforce also that have some great stuff also. We have a lots of armed forces that we can take in if we want also. Freaking awsome video thanks for show our military. I have nit done military my self but my father have been in the military and he go to Another countries to protect them he got some UN medals.
Thanks again stay safe take care and thank you for your service
12:20 The US may be buying this artillery system soon. They have one in the US rn for trials and so far from what I've heard they're really liking it.
23:14 I never realised how funny "bandvagn" sounds in english. It literally translates to "tracked wagon", because it's a wagon using tracks.
Thanks for your love for the engineers. ;) I was a 1st Lt. in the German Panzerpioniere (armoured engineers). We always trained closely with mechanized infantry and armor.
Most of Sweden is restrictive terrain. We have a lot of forested terrain, and in my region forest in combination of rocky terrain.
Jägare would be equivliant to Rangers or Force RECON.
You REALLY need the BVs for transport in the remote north. Trucks just doesn't cut it.
Just look at the exercise Cold Response 2022, nothing gets moved in the snow without the Hägglunds BVs…..
Great video, really enjoyed it and your commentary. CV90 is amazing and very versatile. 15 different CV90 versions available. So versatile is probably an understatement if anything.😂 And in the picture you said "he looks angry" the guy on the left in the picture was our king, so he was probably very focused to not mess up.😂
And the island is Gotland which is VERY strategically important for the Baltic and it is known to be of great interest to Russia in case of war. So to keep that protected is very important.
Also, "pansarbandvagn" basically means "armored tracked vehicle".😁
I think I've covered most of what I wanted in this comment now.😂
Great video as always.😁
13:30 A smoother ride and more space probably. But the real difference comes if you have to go off-road in the snow. That the Humvee 2-CT Ambulance would NOT do well!
There is a command regiment in Sweden who's main task is setting up headquarters and communications for the large brigade headquarters. Battallion and company HQ are set up by the individual regiments themselves.
24:16 the swedish king standing tall!
I'm ex homeguard, most of us did conscription service for 16 months but leadership often longer. We do military exercise 3-4 Weeks every year.
Great video man, great that it was in English so you could follow along, being EX Swedish military myself, i have fired most of them guns and weapons The AK5 is really nice, but my favourite was firing some live rounds with the Carl Gustav, what a beast, i´d be happy to help you translate any future content if you so wish:-)..
"He looks mad!"
Well, he had to baby sit the King of Sweden through some urban streets.... 😅
Hahaha 😂 _"...he had to baby sit the King of Sweden..."_
He didn't get the Carl Gustaf he wanted.
Battle Order makes good stuff and it's interesting to get a professional's opinion on it.
If you are interested in the AK4D 9-Hole Reviews released 2 videos in the last month, including talking with a swedish marksman instructor.
Also think its Armored instead of Armed
The size of Gotland is 1230 square miles and the distance to mainland is 78 miles. It's a very strategic location in the Baltic Sea. Russian fighter jets breached Swedish airspace, east of Gotland, as late as wednesday this week.
Russian fighter jets seem to breach Swedish airspace on a weekly basis. But should they some day do it for a real battle mission they'll better write their will first. They might not return to do it later.
@@larsrons7937 Yeah, I mean the Swedish airforce is no joke. It's underfunded to say the least, but highly skilled and with top-notch equipment. And it's given a big increase in funding at the moment.
Yeah, and the Russians have aired the idea that the island is deserted, not populated, so is there to grab!
At 24:16 the man with the cap is the Swedish king Carl XVI Gustav ... :)
Really fun to watch, especially the reactions on this one from Sweden. But then i served as a reconnaissance soldier in a CV90 in Sweden 😁
Thanx for the epic content, keep it up. 👊
24:20 He looks mad, He = The King😁
American: "He looks mad..."
Me: " *He* is His Majesty" The King of Swedes, Goths and Wends by the mercy of God! BOW BEFORE HIM COLONIAL!" XD
CV-90s and leopard 2s the swedes are kitted out
Thank you for showing us this. Made me as a swede a but less afraid.
Good video . If you can react to ¨Vi flög hårt och stridsmässigt ¨ (We flew hard and combatively) about the Swedish Air Force during the cold war . due to the Swedish Air Force training as it were a war we lost 550 pilots during the cold war . regards from Sweden
I was a rifleman on a CV90 when i served in Norway, can tell you it was comfy af! used to fall asleep to gentle rocking while me zoomed through the forests, then wake up and be ready when we had to dismount.
If you control Gotland. You control the Baltic region. Gotland is the key in the region.
If you control Øresund and Storebælt you control the Baltic, if you Control Gotland you control the attack vectors to stockholm
19:07 As of now, Sweden has agreed on sending 5 000 AT-4 to Ukraine.
i like how the swedish military makes much military stuff them self like cv90, cb90, jas 39 gripen, the archer artillery, bv206 and thoose veriants, cv90 mjölnir, and much more and also mbt law, carl gustaf rpg, cv90 armadillo, lvkv 90 yea theres many good stuff sweden makes
Seems like most of Swedish military equipment is called "90" something. Why is that?
@@frida507 i actually dont know thats a good question
@@frida507 like cv90 is a family of tanks and all that
@@frida507 If i remember correctly the 90 refers to 1990's, the Swedish army wanted a new combat vehicle in the late 80s, the then called "Hägglunds" (nowdays its BAE systems Hägglunds) developed the CV90 which stands for Combat Vehicle 90, or in Swedish Stridsfordon 90.
@ OK, that makes sense. Maybe many of the series/systems were introduced around that time.
That somewhat "grumpy guy" on the left in the photo is our king.
Conveniently also named Carl Gustaf, like the grenade launcher.
fun fact the guy to the left when u sad ''he looks mad'' in 24:17 is our king Carl XVI Gustaf
Pioneers are an older term, Engineers and Pioneers are normally lumped up under the term Engineers, but Pioneers used to have a more recon-esque focus, going ahead to prepare the way for other troops by for example blowing up obstacles while Engineers focus on fortification and construction. A Aapper/Combat Engineer.
I think one thing forgotten in the video is that the home guard will not have access to as many heavy vehicles (especially tanks). So those will be operating more like US light infantry.
24:18 FYI ,that is King Carl XVI Gustaf to the left in the vehicle.
Canadian Forces as part of combat support company had Pioneer platoons they were battalion engineers and eod they removed them in the late 90s i believe as well as mortar platoons but they have brought them back in the last couple years
The guy in the CV90 who "looks mad" is actually the king of Sweden
The mechanized batalions = Main battle tanks, light mechanized = infantry in the back orter combat vehicles. (Cv9040’s)
This is very interesting to me, as a non-soldier. It's great to get your perspective as well, which helps me to understand the details 🙂
And speaking of Swedish military, I wonder if you've heard of a Swedish band called Sabaton? They base their music on the various military conflicts in history, from ancient times to the present. Worth checking them out if you get a chance. They have a whole channel dedicated to presenting the actual history behind the songs they sing, and they do take pains to present them with a great deal of historical accuracy. I know your channel is not so much about music reactions, but do check them out in your spare time as they are a great band.
Devil Dogs might be relevant to Theos interests
Sabaton makes great stuff haha
@@CombatArmsChannel And quick search of your channel showed me you actually did do a reaction to one of their songs - cool stuff.
That humvee ambulance would be 5 hours late to the emergency. Need tracks in 1m of mud and snow.
When I did my conscription, I was in the P7 (South Scanian Regiment) 3rd Company as a combat armored vehicle carrier. I drove a truck with trailer that weighed 105 metric tons fully loaded with an armored fighting vehicle (Leopard 2 "Improved" A5 SE) and ammunition
A friend of mine was in Kosovo for the UN and said one other thing swedish soldiers have for an advantage to many others is that many have some kind of civilian education before they to to the army.
We have educated electricians, mechanics etc etc in the army so they can do more stuff than fight if they need to do it.
He told me once that some soldiers from another country had to wait for a mechanic to come and fix some problem with their car/viacle/or what it was but his pluton had some mechanics in their pluton because thay had that education from school.
Yeah, it can also be very handy to establish trust and good relations with civilians during peacekeeping missions
I was Group Leader for Norrbotten regemente back in 98 just as we were getting the AK4 totally fased out for the AK5 because not every soldier had the AK5. But after redeploying to go to "Fjälljägarskolan" Mountain hunter school i became a sniper and we had all the newest kit and i was issued the AK5C 40MM and the AI sniper that kicks freaking ass! Served with FN troops for awhile and gotta say that we can definitely defend our self if we have to and everyone i know from back in the military are all saying the same thing with what's going on in Ukraine right now that the Russians would not have such a easy time trying to cross in to our country!
Ukraine to be free and God bless my SWEDEN 🇸🇪

Its more acurate to call it Army Ranger
@@ore_red1684 The words means "hunter soldier" in swedish.
@@johan.ohgren yes if you translate exactly but its more acurate and understandable for Amwricabs if we say Ranger soldier, The Tanger mark is the same as Jägar bågen
@@johan.ohgren Why would you translate it into the swedish meaning? It makes no sense. :D Jägare = Ranger.
Tänkte precis fylla i med samma info ang skyttegruppens beväpning. Gjorde min värnplikt på samma position som du vid typ samma tidpunkt. NB21.
pls do more videos about swedens army. keep up the good work
Yeah and the ambulances can go over water aswell
Swedish sharpshooter here, the best is when we attack by BlackHawk, bnnut otherwise by CVC90 as a normal troop. I can just say have so much love towards both the cv90s and the helicoperts, because they help us so much
24:17 The Swedish King Carl XVI Gustaf to the left.
At 24:18 you can see our king on the left side in the vehicle.
"Bandvagn" = "track+vagon" = a word for just about any vehicle is mainly used for carring or pulling stuff that is prepelled with tracks instead of wheels.
Another similar word is "bandtraktor" = "track+tractor" = a tractor prepelled by tracks instead of wheels, also used for "bulldozers".
It is an absolut beast. (They show a little of it in the clip)
I just wanna point out that Sweden develop and produce most of their military such as tanks, boats, military equipment, the bv410! The list goes long!
Inte stridsvagnarna eller gevären vi bara uppgraderar dem
If anyone interested about the AK 4D, 9 holes review did a short & sweet overview about said rifle.
Fun fact, Sweden are the country with the most islands in the world. And fifth when it comes to lakes.
The man at 24:16 is the Swedish king, Karl XVI Gustaf. As part of his training before he became king he reached the rank of captain in the navy, airforce and army. It was of course modified courses with selected moments. As king he is a general in the army and the airforce and an admiral in the navy.
@@Ken-sn7oc The king was the Commander in Chief, Överbefälhavare, until the constitution changed in 1974. After that he's just a general in the army and airforce and an admiral in the navy. Poor guy.

literally gonna say..Gotland has some v interesting strategic history
But they still are 150m russians vs 1bn in the western world... even china with it´s population and military force cannot beat us..

The point of having the inf stick there hear out is so they have situational awarness if they need to dismount rapoidly in case of an ambush
The guy you said "looked mad" near the end was the swedish king. Karl XVI Gustav
It's no surprise that Swedes have pretty swede tanks.
As a Swede, i gotta say im not sure our own government or military even knows what purpose Swedish Military have had the last 15 years. Our Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt (M) 2006-2014 called the military a side interest. Military was dismantled to focus on small volunatry units of Operation with a mainfocus to go "defend" abroad. Obligatory military service was "canceled" already in 2002/2003 and just recently reinstated.
