No. Actually Brooks should not have been chosen. He is not a member of the PGA tour. When the guys that went to LIV, they knew that they would probably not get to play in the Ryder Cup. They sold their games to the highest bidder. Live with it. One more thing there is no merger with LIV. The Tour Board players have not agreed to any deal.
that was a cop out by Zach. The Ryder Cup should have the best players and captains for both teams. LIV and the PGA are supposed to be united. Hope this does not happen again.
@@cliffevans6329 I agree, for us Europeans we don't have many top players at LIV but this stand off robs us of three nailed on Captains moving forward. .
Just look at what happened to Henrik Stenson. He lost his captaincy by committing to LIV. I think that was the clearest example of the conflict between LIV and the Ryder Cup.
And although they wouldn't have been picked to play, we have lost Garcia Westwood and Poulter as future Captains and vice Captains. Even if a European had won three majors, they wouldn't have even been considered. The Ryder Cup is a unique match in the golf calendar and is now ostracising some of it's biggest characters. As a European I would like to have seen Bryson and DJ in the US team and some of Ryder Cup Stars from Liv contributing on our team. Golf has sold it's soul to the devil but they are all owned by the same devil so what's the problem with them being part of this Ryder Cup?
I'm from Australia and we don't really care about a Ryder Cup exhibition event but Bryson is one of the top five golfers in the world without a doubt so the Ryder Cup is picking average golfers in the professional game so that makes it a joke
A bunch of petty children... best players should represent their country, but politics are apparently more important. Love LIV and what it has done for the game
How is LIV good for the game? I don't care about them making more money. Would you rather watch PGA Tour Tournament or a LIV Tournament. I think PGA has way better setup. Also I doubt Saudi really cares about golf and the game for the future.
If you want a team to represent the US in international competition, the goal should be to field the best. That should be the point of view of the captain, not golf politics. I hope for Zach's and the team sake, we win the RC. Otherwise there will a lot of second guessing drama going on that the media is licking their chops to spin.
Seems like Team USA views it like a boys golfing trip. Gotta bring your best buddy JT who has lost his game. The locker room ambience is apparently more important than bringing guys who can play.
Team Europe have a great opportunity to win, the European LIV Guys that didn't make the team aren't at their best. The USA LIV guys that have been left out definitely deserve a shot. 18 months of no OWGR and still nearly making the grade tells you all you need to know. I really want to see a match USA Ryder cup team (less Brooks) v LIV USA guys (with Brooks). Who is your money on?
Funny that they snub LIV players, when they are now all basically part of LIV. They're defending the PGA's original stance on LIV, when even the PGA gave up and basically joined LIV.
I am with @metalhook9060 My question is for Zach, are you picking the best for team USA?? or are you playing games with PGA etc. I believe I have my answer. If you're the Captain of Ryder Team USA, you have not lived up to your responsibilities
I'm not a fan of Keegan but his form lately should have put him there, JT not so good form but will be paired with Spieth and that's a clucky thing. Rose has been rewarded for not going to Liv, Adrian Meronk should have had his place. I question Robert McIntyre, but defend not putting in an Italian as it's played on home turf as not one of them has shown great form. We watch and hope it close with great golf.
Hope the US loses for its snub of DJ and Bryson. When you cheat your best players out of the right to play, you deserve to lose. Nothing but candy ass sour grapes. F Zach Johnson. PERIOD
This hurts the LIV players the most. I use to work at the Players Championship and they all use Ryder Cup gear for there everyday stuff. Like travel bags etc. Plus they told me.
11 1/2 of the 19 points from team USA were from players who were not selected this year.. 5 for DJ and 2 1/2 from Bryson, not forgetting of course that Bryson was one of the most dynamic and crowd-pleasing players at the last RC
Of course he is short changing the team. JT shouldn’t be on the team. DJ has also played well the couple of years she should have also gotten a look before JT.
The way the media went after LIV golf smelled so bad especially when no one looked at the PGA sponsors and alliances, so when any PGA player that gave their “Rory like” comments just made it worse. Then to not pick the best players but to favor PGA players (and not the ones who earned it on the PGA)has me hoping the US gets crushed. I can’t blindly root for any team, especially when I don’t agree with them
As a Canadian, I could've prettied-up the American and EU team a little better. A lot of good golfers got left out on both sides. It will still be a great show nonetheless.
I don't think that anyone can look at the situation objectively and say JT is playing better golf than BC at this point in time. But defecting to LIV has some consequences, and this is one of them. Also suggests that there will be a strong residual rift between the two sets of players even after the merger.....
I get what Zach Johnson is saying, but that methodology obviously didn't work. Hindsight is 20/20. I would have preferred he not have taken any live player, but obviously that wouldn't have changed the outcome much. Since he decided to break the LIV barrier, I think DJ or Bryson would have been better choices than Brooks. Take all three and there is a good chance we see a different result.
Can’t put much weight on Brysons 2 wins and record low scoring round. The way liv golf has the courses set out are for low scoring golf. Basically playing easier courses
Zach is just a bad liar, just be honest and tell it as it is. He didn’t want LIV players but how could he not pick a major winner in brooks. And keegan was never a consideration because he knew he was going to pick JT regardless. JTs racked up his ranking points from a while ago, if he were to be ranked 50 prior to the pick Zach would probably have said I looked at top 50
It's a team sport. This is why euro dominates. They have players out of the top rankings over and over and they come thru. US jdominated a year ago and should have stuck with the formula no matter what. ZACH FAILED THE USA. Go with what got you there.
It's well documented that he's not a very good team mate. Why does this keep coming up? The more interesting team omission was Tony Finau. He played well and Zach took JT. At least then, you'd be talking about something interesting instead of shoveling the same BS as everyone else for clicks.
Zach Johnson choose the politically correct PGA stance no PGA no Ryder Cup he only choose Brooks because he could not afford to not pick him. team USA is weaker because they ignored Bryson and Dustin.
See this is what americans don't get about the Ryder Cup. It has nothing to do with what your ranking is or what you shot last week. It has everything to do with whether your game suits the course. A group of winning European captains recently talked about this. LIV is an exhibition event, the courses are set up to promote low scores. Marco Simone isn't a course where bombing a drive somewhere down there works, and I would guess that's why he hasn't been picked.
The Europeans win because they have camaraderie with each other and mojo. The u.s. team has no chemistry with these captains that have no spark or fire like the European players and captains. They come across as friends. The u.s. guys are just boring as a whole.
Zach didn’t go by top 20. Justin Thomas is in the worst form of his career! He is also not even in the top 100!!! Zach was spewing pure BS. Zach sounds like a woke PGA guy. The reality is, this is more political than it is based on standings or a players’ form.

JT got in based on past wins with Jordan, his friendship with Couples, and being part of Team Tiger.
JT is great. He does not belong on this team.
he was talking about the top 25 in the ryder cup standings. JT was 15th.
Truth is JT is liked far more by the American players and they have more of a say in the selections than the captain
So you're saying the best players are not necessarily on the team USA
YES, 4 great players got the boot.
