For kids who grew up with the DS, Sylux was their Boba Fett: mystery villain with badass armor and a badass name. Does next to nothing in the actual story but is the subject of dozens of headcanons and theories because he's too cool to be unimportant.

In the MPH game guide for Sylux it says: "Sylux was already in pursuit of Samus Aran when the Alimbic transmission was broadcast. For reasons no one knows, Sylux has long nursed an intense hatred of the Galactic Federation, its member planets, and most of all, its star bounty hunter, Samus. Sylux may well be Samus's equal - resourceful, efficient, and infinitely patient. The mysterious hunter has been tracking Samus secretly for days, waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike. Sylux's primary target is Samus herself, but the secret of ultimate power would be of great help against her. In fact, it just might be powerful enough to destroy the entire Galactic Federation...."

I believe Sylux was once part of a Federation black ops team before Samus joined the Army. He and his teammates were the most elite soldiers the military had, and they had a tense rivalry against bounty hunters.
When the Federation tried to take down Mother Brain and the Space Pirates in the beginning of Zero Mission, they sent Sylux and his immediate team first, but they were quickly defeated and Sylux was severely wounded while the others died. The Federation hires Samus, who saves the day as we see in Zero Mission.
Sylux develops a personal grudge toward Samus for making his team's sacrifice in vain, while the Federation decides Sylux and his black ops team are obsolete. A top secret science program opens up within the Federation military, offering all members of the black ops team to become enhanced super soldiers in an effort to make them as capable as Samus. One by one, the black ops team die from the augmentations, building Sylux' hatred toward the Federation and even greater hatred toward Samus. In the end, he's the only one that survives the program, and his first action is to escape Federation control and hunt down Samus.
I imagine the Baby Metroid he hatched in Federation Force imprinted on him, meaning it will be loyal to him. Possibly, any clones he makes from it will also be loyal. Given that even Mother Brain struggles to control Metroids, Sylux would be the first one who can effectively organize and command them, giving him great leverage in threatening the Federation, Space Pirates, and Samus.
I see him doing all he can to break the people's faith in the Federation by exposing the brutal experiments he went through, and breaking their faith in Samus for being the reason these things happened.

  • @XshadOtakuX

I really enjoyed the theory crafting at the end. It’s honestly one of the most unique Sylux theories I've ever heard.
Most Sylux theories (including my own) revolve around some shock reveal of who's under the mask having some personal relevance to Samus's past, the only reveal that would truly make sense in this regard being Adam Malkovich, despite that kind of explicitly going against his character. Other suggestions I've seen include Ian Malkovich or Anthony Higgs, who probably weren't even *concepts* when Sylux was created, or Samus's long-lost brother who was briefly mentioned in an old, almost certainly non-canon passage from an instruction booklet that Nintendo probably doesn't even remember writing, and Rare likely never even read.
The idea of Samus having indirect involvement - or perhaps even a direct connection - to Sylux's backstory and character motivations is a great connecting thread that could build an excellent dynamic between the two, while still giving him agency as his own character. And the fact that it relies primarily on information exclusively from the Prime Trilogy, which has always felt isolated from the core events of the Metroid tineline, makes it that much better. Of all Sylux theories out there, I'm now most hoping for this one to be true.

I've theorized a lot about that over the years too. They'd have a common enemy so maybe they could even work together in some way. There's even a bit from Samus's monologue at the end of Fusion that points to Samus finding some kind of ally even after everything that's happened:
"But how will the beings of the universe view our resolve? I doubt they will understand what we did... the danger we barely averted. They will hold tribunals and investigations. They will hold us responsible. Adam understood this, and he spoke to me in my anger...
'Do not worry. One of them will understand. One of them must.'"
I wonder if Sylux could be the one who understands?

    • @sboinkthelegday3892

To me it sounds more like a hypothetical, "at least one person" even if all the rest of the world disagrees. So if they went around explaining themselves, eventually they will meet the one person who... agrees with genocide I suppose. Why would the A.I. even be thinking of some specific person, and then not even naming any names?
If I had to make one up, a perfect inclusion into the Prime 4 plot would be the creation of Phantoon. Of course we don't know Phantoon NEEDS a creation story, but he WAS included into the Space Pirate leadership between Metroid 1 and 3, and being a legacy character already used by Team Ninja, he could be open to use by a 3rd party developer in the Metroid series.
Since it's hard to imagine a Prime game without Phazon, but that chapter was already closed in the lore, I think we can expect a plot around "the last remnants of phazon". To definitively bookend the Phazon Arc, Prime 4 could have a bounty hunter fuse with phazon in a unigue way, and get trapped within an immaterial dimension where he mutates into Phantoon. Now he is doomed too starve looking for any energy he is capable of consuming like Phazon or something similar, neatly tying it away from being seen again.
If that haappened to Sylux, that would explain his absence until now and justify a change of heart in a monster like Phantoon. It could even lay the groundwork for a post-Metroid Arc where Samus joins the Space Pirates. Let's say Phantoon pursued Samus specifically, waiting for her on Zebes and following her to Bottle Ship, but her falling out with Galactic Federation prompts a new mission to join forces and restore Phantoon's body. This is also supported by the recurrence of "omega" terminology previously associated with Phazon. The omega Beam could be a federation attempt to replicate the Hyper Beam from Baby Metroid, like Sylux' weapons seem to attempt copying Samus' Chozo weapons, much like what the Space pirates aspire to accomplish as well.
The Chozo factionalism and delibaerate creation of weapons could reveal that Space Pirates are more justified than it originally seemed, and Samus would strike a deal to work with them in pursuit of stopping Chozo technology always becoming a weapon for some warfaring race.

I think Samus is still working with the Feds in Dread. Some videos on UA-cam claim that the English translation of Other M and Fusion didn't properly explain that only a rogue segment of the GF was experimenting with Metroids; apparently, there are good and bad parts of the GF and presumably the bad parts have been purged after Fusion.

My theory about Sylux is that, he is actually Ian Malkovich. Adam Malkovichs brother who was killed in the past. He was told by the federation to go fix a ship that was about to go Critical, and no one went to help him. Adam wound up cutting the link to tow the ship when Samus could have helped him. Ian believed to be dead, somehow survived the explosion and broke into a Federation compound, found the Sylux Suit and the Shock Coil. He clearly has some Federation knowledge and access. He stole a suit that was experimental and stole a metroid hatchling. Im sure those two things were locked tight behind GF Security. Yet somehow both were stolen so easily…by one of their own

    • @lightdarksoul2097
      @lightdarksoul2097 5 місяців тому +1

I had that same idea. Ian would hate the federation his own family turned their back on him and left him to die and his closest friend in Samus stood aside and let him blow up. Plus he would have the means of getting tech from the federation as he was the brother of a general and knew their secrets.

Everyone's been talking about Sylux being the villain of Metroid Prime 4, and I understand why, but hear me out:
Nintendo has said that Metroid Dread would be the end of Samus' story, but not the end of the Metroid series. What if the next mainline game sees Sylux as the protagonist? And instead of making them a villain protagonist, the game's story does a radical shift where their motivations are seen as completely sympathetic and makes the audience want to burn down the Federation as much as they do. I mean after Fusion and, to a lesser extent, Dread, it wouldn't take that much to make me see Sylux's point of view. Yes, I know the Federation wasn't responsible for the EMMI turning evil, but they still made invincible horrific nightmare robots!
Also, I hope they wind up being revealed to be a female. That will really drive home the fact that they're a dark mirror to Samus.
And before you all try to "internet" me and start listing out all the reasons that Sylux will definitely be in Metroid Prime 4 and not expect me to want to strangle you, I get it. I agree with you, all signs absolutely point to Sylux's story continuing in the prime series. I'm just asking: "what if?"

I kinda feel like he was a human or humanoid being who formerly worked for the fed and he became an energy being when he stole the suit and put it on.
Aside from the story aspect of it I'm drawing this conclusion from the mechanics of the shock-coil. In prime hunters, sylux is the only one that can use the shock-coil to replenish his health.
He's been established as a masculine character in his actions and initially in the description. As the description progresses it seems like he's still more unknown. This leads me to believe he's an energy being.

I have a theory, sylux was part of a race of warriors that where corrupted by the affects of phazon and wanted to become a space marine to combat the space pirates and the phazon. He enlisted in the galactic federation academy and started training. He then met samus in the academy and after time went he developed a grudge against samus because she did so well. After the academy training, samus flew off in her ship to become a bounty hunter while sylus was somehow betrayed by the federation and saw how the federation where misusing the phazon and abusing its properties. He then escaped using his prototype ship, armor, and weapons given to him by the federation during the academy and swore to eliminate the federation force. After prime 3 he finds samus and now knows that she's working with the federation and wants to kill her too.

If he is still alive then they could be allies. We know Sylux hates the Federation but never why? I have a headcanon that Sylux might hate the Federation because he knows what the Federation truly is. A corrupt organization that might have caused Sylux some serious grief. Sylux could very well be a former Federation Soldier or scientist that learned something he wasn't supposed to this would lead to the Federation to do something that would spark his hatred, be it killing his family or trying to kill him or disgracing and ruining his career its anyone's guess but it is possible. Plus Sylux hating Samus is justifiable because she is blindly following the Federation without question (until Samus Returns). Sylux knows the Federation is corrupt and Samus doesn't at least not yet, and her being oblivious to this is what makes him hate her until she learns the truth and turns against them. Now Samus could be a fugitive and Sylux along with her. Since she is no longer in league's with the Federation and knows the truth about them, she and Sylux could work together to expose them...maybe. It could end with Sylux doing what Samus isn't willing to like killing innocents or causing unnecessary damage or something, if not I like the idea of Samus having a partner.

I think the best hints to Sylux origin can befound in "Other M" (Even if Sylux doesnt show up in that game at all)
Actually I believe that Sylux is Adams brother Ian that seemed to die on the exploding space station (the flashback).
The federation discovered its body and experimented on him making him Sylux in the process.
With "Other M" and Fusion its clear to see that the federation are not the good guys anymore and they would do something like that.
Now Sylux has a grudge against the federation and against Samus for leaving him on that ship to die,
probably he hated Adam too but he already died so...
They´ve been building that character Sylux for so long, it wouldn´t make sense for him to be a character that was never mentioned before.
Another possibility would be the "Deleter" because its never clearly stated that its "James Pierce", maybe sylux was the deleter to begin with?

So I have a personal theory/headcanon of who Sylux is, he is actually once a former but decorated soldier for the Galatic Federation who was left to die when the Space Pirates attacked either the planet he was stationed in or a Federation ship OR his ship being shutdown during the Horus Rebellion (so hard to not say Heresy). The Federation declared him KIA and upon hearing the news sought to purge the Federation of it's corruption (which is mentioned in Fusion), with the suit that he stole being the Federation's attempt to replicate Samus's Power Suit. It will make sense in Federation Force of Sylux easily infiltrating the base that housed the Metroid.

    • @dand6520

Makes sense considering most of his equipment (weapon, armor, alt-form and ship) are Federation tech. Plus, if he was able to bypass the security of that Federation lab where the Metroid Egg was being studied before hacking the equipment to make it hatch, then he must someone who has access to Federation Intel.

I think the theory with the Horus rebellion might be a pretty good one. Especially since they even had Sylux’s ship show up in the ending, there might be a pretty good chance that the dialogue might have been a small hint to Sylux’s origins.
I suppose that Cylosis being Sylux’s home planet could potentially counter the argument, but there’s still very little known information about him that anything could potentially be said for his history.

The galactic federation sounds like a UNSC past it's prime, sure the insurrection against the UNSC was short lived but seeing as the Galactic federation would use covert means to lure samus into a trap yet pay samus because she is in the federation's eyes the lesser of two evils especially when sylux hatred of the federation would become a obsession, sylux is not so much a one trick pony but maybe trained by a evil Chozo race but uses federation prototype for ironic karmic warfare, sylux was forged in the fires of war, when samus gazed into the abyss she ran away and became a bounty hunter, when sylux gazed into the abyss they became consumed by their own hatred, samus the anti hero sylux the "liberator" now the question of whether the Galactic federation has a ONI counterpart is another question...

It seems to me that Sylux' ship in Metroid Prime Hunters is indeed the same ship as the one he has in Metroid Prime 3. But it seems more that the design received an update cause the main shape stays similar. Samus herself received an update for her ship in Metroid Prime 3 and the capacities of the DS were extremely limited so it's not totally impossible to believe it would still be the same Delano 7.

All you need to know about prime 4s villain Sylux is he was a competing bounty hunter in Metroid Prime Hunters and he hates Samus and the Galactic federation. He had a brief cameo at the end of Prime 3 where he follows Samus’s ship at the end of the game, and at the end of the awful 3DS game Metroid Prime federation force, he is seen breaking into a galactic federation research facility and inducing a Metroid egg to hatch, whereby presumably he steals the infant Metroid.

  • @DragonEleven
    @DragonEleven 5 місяців тому

I'm not sure about Sylux being one of the rebels... I think he may have been a GF soldier on the Valhalla who may have been working with AU-313.
If AU-313 believed that the GF needed to take more extreme actions, that may explain it's agressive behaviour... but while restricted by the orders of the GF it would have been unable to do anything about it by itself... so perhaps it recruited Sylux as a like-minded individual within the GF who could act on it's behalf.
AU-313 could have given Sylux access to the experimental/banned technology they use, and this would fit with a mindset of needing to take more extreme action... as would their apparent alliance with Space Pirates, and use of Mochtoids in the MP4 trailer.
This may have all been prompted during the battle of Horus IV... if GF orders were going to get everyone killed, perhaps Sylux killed the bridge crew so that AU-313 could take control... Sylux's identity as a bounty hunter may have been created following this in order to conceal what they had done.
Samus has also been known to disobey orders from the GF in order to do what needs to be done, so perhaps Sylux had actually been watching her in order to determine if she was a viable ally to them, and possibly recruit her to their cause.
There was also talk of a future Metroid game exploring the GF more, so this dynamic could be their way of doing it in MP4... throughout the game Sylux could expose secret information about the GF to Samus in an attempt to win her over.

The whole Horus Rebellion thing actually makes sense, people say it's actually Samus' Brother Soloman who is actually non canon. So, Sylux being a member Horus Rebellion makes alot more sense. I think he actually might've been the Leader, got arrested for it, and either escaped, or was released by the federation. To make matter worse, he might've been married and had kids, and the Federation killed them, and he might've lost them at the hands of Samus via Samus getting orders to do so, IF Samus was helping the Federation during the rebellion.
This is just a theory I came up with...Maybe I should ask someone else for their opinion, even UA-camrs I know.

I expect Sylux to be a featured antagonist of Metroid Prime 4, maybe to the extent of Dark Samus in Metroid Prime 2 and 3. Prediction, Sylux is samus’s brother Solomon Aran. He hates the galactic federation for allowing the space pirates to slaughter his home and to his knowledge his sister. He hates his sister for abandoning him for while samus was saved by the Chozo, Solomon was months later picked up by the galactic federation where Solomon was taken to be experimented on. Solomon was raised by pain and forced for combat. He hates the federation for using him like a tool and samus for leaving him behind. The twist will be when samus is almost bested by sylux, Ridley will appear…
