you can cite videos in academic papers, if you ignore the air of unprofessionalism the technically allowed technique brings
I cite UA-cam videos in papers often, if people get mad that's their loss

GENUINELY excited for this book if for this specific reason - does anybody have any clue what the essays included might be?
If you remember, a few years ago you graciously and enthusiastically let me interview you about a topic I was researching in college - connections between toxic masculinity and “gamer” culture. You were the only person in the games journalism industry who responded to my outreach, and I was elated. I had no idea how to interview, but you we’re as helpful as you could be. The project never became the hard hitting and persuasive work I had hoped, but you were such a huge inspiration to me then, and now, that its still one of my favorite writing experiences from college. Seeing you get such a deservedly beautiful opportunity reflects not only your incredible work, but the type of person you seem to be - passionate about art/media literacy, and kind enough to give time to strangers who share that passion. It makes me so happy, as i’m sure it does all of your fans, to see how genuinely happy this obviously makes you. As far as I’m concerned, your impact on games journalism is as great as your mentioned heroes’; if you don’t agree yet I’m sure one day we’ll all convince you. I look forward to more great things from you in the future!

I literally teach Who's Afraid in my Intro to Creative Writing class and every semester I have at least a couple of students who go "Oh I love this dude!" when I pull the video up in class. I'm so stoked I can now also teach the written version! congrats on the awesome news!

Man, I've been a fan of your writing for a long time now, but never actually commented (till now). I was actually just thinking a few days ago about how one of my favorite modern writers is Jacob Gellar despite that writing mostly taking place in the online video space as opposed to written or print media.
It’s lovely that some of that writing has made the leap to written print media
For the first time in my life I'm genuinely sad I missed out on getting a signed copy of something, your work has been tremendously inspirational to me. Many years ago I began my artistic journey with illustration and there was a wonderful website run by an artist by the name of Matt Kohr. His content kept me from giving up and pulled me out of place in my life where I forgot what it felt like to grow. For where I am in my life now your work has been a driving factor in making me want to write, definitively more than any other sole influence. I want for nothing more in my life than to have even a single opportunity to have an impact on someone in the way you or the things you write about have had on me.
You inspired me to play Sekiro and somehow that lead me down a rabbit hole that ended with finding something I once hated to be treasured. You inspired the Jewish American main character of the novel I've been writing (admittedly more in my head than on paper) for the past two years. That novel is fundamentally about change, the way people we used to be don't have to be the people we are even if we share their past. Your empathy, your ability to find meaning and heart in all the things you talk about, that's what I want to write about more than anything in the world.
I am continually delighted to recommend your work to my favorite people in my life, enough to choke them with the overwhelming sincerity of the effort. For me I cannot oversell your work, I know of very few artists who have inspired me as much as you, and I also know I am not alone in this feeling.
There is a deep part of me that wants to put a joke here, I'm gonna buy the book obviously, thank you for your work, and I hope you're doing well.

Jacob, as someone who never really buys anything from UA-camrs, be it their own product or a sponsor (Nebula aside); I bought this without hesitation the minute I got the video title notification on my phone. I found your channel back on Games that Save the Best for Last; and have religiously watched you ever since. Your videos have changed the way I think about art as I consume it, and your book recommendations litter my bookshelf. I am (slowly, very slowly) working on my first video essay for quite a while now, and your videos are top of the list when it comes to inspiration (loved your Q&A on Nebula for this). They also help me get through commutes, work, sleep, housework, and life. I really hope you the best success with this, and everything you do; as you surely deserve it :)
I am a fellow never buys anything from UA-camrs (Nebula aside) person. And I will be buying this book. Going to wait until I learn which essays are included (I love them all, anything Geller makes is incredible, I just get anxious with surprises).
But yeah, this man has made the highest quality video essays consistently for years. Everything he creates is filled with so much care and passion and respect. It seems like this book will be worth it.
Have you read 17776 yet? It’s free online and I was consumed for 4 straight hours reading it, with Geller’s video, Cities without People, paused in the tab next to it. I will be forever grateful to him for recommending it. That day I had tears in my eyes because of the centennial lightbulb and Microsoft flight simulator. I had heard it mentioned before but I assumed my lack of understanding of football would be a problem and never got round to it. It was not a problem.

"How a Game Lives" being a physical thing that will exist as an archive and commentary on your best works makes me think of "How Can We Bear to Throw Anything Away." Almost as though it is a natural extension of the themes of the ephemeral nature of knowledge and history discussed in that essay.

Nothing I could have predicted this book being about even comes close to exciting me as much as what it is. I adore every single essay mentioned in this video and dozens of others, there is nothing that gets me more than seeing the breakdown and elaboration of such beautiful and polished projects. I cannot begin to explain how happy I am to see your work being "imortalized" in book form and im not exagerating, your work helped me change and solidify my ideas e feelings about art and video games trough my high school years, which were the hardest times of my life. I will not be buying the book, since im from Brazil and only earn like 150 euros per month, but I am happy to be able to see my favorite content creator grow so much and release his own book.
