Texas Children's Hospital offers comprehensive services to evaluate and implant children with cochlear implant devices. Cochlear implantation is one of the most innovative treatment options available for a child with profound deafness or hearing loss. In 2013, there were more than 40 of these procedures performed by the otolaryngology team at Texas Children's Hospital, and already this year there have been 33 of these surgical procedures performed.

This is probably a stupid question, but I am going to ask it anyway. When let’s say a child who can’t hear, but can sign, gets an implant, then can hear for the first time, how do they understand what is being said?

I suppose you could sign while you speak but generally a young child will pick up language very quickly

@@elizabethgrant1914I research about Total Communication. It was so risky because I had bad sign language, poor English, and a lack of speech in a mainstream school when I grew up there. My parents spoke Spanish and didn't even know how to sign language. I looked like I was a language deprivation. I wish they chose Cued Speech or Auditory/Oral for me instead of Total Communication.

Anyone of any age can receive cochlear implant, just have to speak with an audiologist to see if you meet the criteria and what type of hearing loss you have 😊

After all the years of having Menieres diseases and constant ear ringing , it is nice to sit in a quiet restaurant without anything bothering me. Even the fullness in the bad ear is hardly noticeable. And the constant ear ringing is gone..Took 4weeks thanks Dr Liam Ogbebor Herbal centre UA-cam channel for the tinnitus program and herbal ear drop treatment and I hope it stops for everyone else sooner.-;
