- Singing live on stage. Sean Lennon, Moby, & Rufus Wainwright - Across The Universe. Originally by the Beatles, Rufus lead sings here able to get a son of a Beatle Sean to accompany sing and strumming his stuff with Moby.
When Sean stepped up to the mic....💜😭😭💜
Rufus fully opened up and let the music pour through him. The song deserves nothing less
Love Rufus
Wainwright has such a distinctive voice and it’s used as a wonder here,so pure
He looks like Jim Morrison!
I love Moby’s baritone
I'm crying because this is so real.
I am crying right now, watching this in two thousand nineteen. I had this song on my labor playlist when I gave birth to my first child in my living room. Talk about emotions.
This is my "I'm stressed out and I need a break" song and I sit and cry and then just sing.
What a fucking brilliant song....
Rufus has such an amazing voice!
Atomic Hive 🤘🏻
Consider his origin.
I don't know his origin.
@@atomichive Two of these three guys have famous fathers.
I Sean Lennon does but who is Rufus father?
this is the best version of this song I've heard since the original.....honestly imperfect.
we agree !
John Lennon would have loved it..
Have you ever heard kurt kobain in this song?
Not with Rufus .. I have heard much better
@@paolopastorelli7851 he did a great cover much better than this
at first i wasn't really into their styles , but about halfway i started to realise that all their different voices and rawness of the song was really imperfectly perfect, if you know what i mean
i thought the same thing!
ĵohn ĺenoñ across the. univers1
veni vidi vici definitely agree withe you mate you start to hear the three different tones coming through
Seems fitting. Since the song itself is also imperfectly perfect. 😊
Same here!
I love the imperfections in this cover. The harmonies that do not necessarily blend, the slightly off but passionate singing by Rufus, Moby's bass-baritone vocal that is an octave below than Rufus' line.. It reminds me of what music is supposed to be - human.
exactly.
Timliu92 mm i always skip the Rufus part in the beginning.. i know
nuthin' a little autotune couldn't fix (sarcasm)
In other words, perfect !!!
I was going to comment but, you said it perfectly. The imperfections of this make it all the more beautiful.
Wow...Really love this version. Great cover of a timeless classic. They sure don't make em today like they used to. RIP John and George
we . agree . !- ta
Another Lennon masterpiece that is not easy to sing. No one will ever get close to John on this one, but they've honored him nicely. I watched this live and was absolutely stunned at Sean's talent. His Dad made playing and singing these songs look easy. It wasn't.
David Bowie actually did it better than the Beatles.
🔰
Rufus Wainwright's version is much better than John's in my view.
@@tubeyou89119
Nah, it has the same bubblegum quality as Fiona Apple’s version.
I've rarely heard a performance where a band has loved a song as much as these three do. They're almost reverent. Their stripped-down performance lets a beautifully simple song shine through. Wonderful.
it's a joy to see Sean as a living testament to his dad's talent. the resemblance is striking.
I like this version very much...anything Rufus wainwright does is going to be excellent. I am enthralled with his body of work.
This is all rather new to me...I have been following "the yellow brick road" looking for Rufus (I think he'd enjoy that allusion) and what I have found is others who appreciate him. Good stuff....
Ajm STEFAN. Beautiful song.
Love this version too. Love Rufus, Moby and Sean. Imperfections and all!
So so beautiful, so poignant, and a fitting tribute to John Lennon 🙏🏻💖
Rufus sings like an angel. Who agrees?
Cindy Holmes agreed 6 years later 😭
yes, but it's rear-wheel drive
Cindy Holmes, Absolutely! I’ve seen him in concert five time now and I swear that with each concert his voice is even more heavenly. He had me totally overwhelmed with tears at the last one singing a Joni Mitchell song. Can’t wait for Covid to clear so we can have another concert to look forward to eventually.
His eyes are black holes. He lit.
@Dave Harpham me, too...i got teary eyed reading your reply. Sweet!
This song...one of the most "beautiful songs ever composed"...John Lennon...you wrote so many " masterpieces" this one is one of your finest!
Rufus sings so effortless. Like he just opens his mouth and there it is. love him so
Just stumbled upon this today October 9, 2019. Tears
Gail Mork Me too. Aaaaaaaammmmaaaaazzzzziiinnngggg!!!
Exactly one year later
Sheer poetry. Shined in 68 and still does.
Rufus, amazing voice...and theres the child we all saw, grown and singing his Fathers fav beatles song...the Beatles were a supernatural phenomenon......
Something in my eyes...can't stop watering...
+earthriser Mine too..
rubber soul
me too :'-( its like something we lost forever
The thing in your eyes is that shower of bullshit you're standing underneath, probably. Take a breath, close your eyes & actually 'listen'.....realise that these 3 bozos (yes, I know it's Sean....so what, frankly) sound like 2nd rate buskers with 2nd hand instruments in an underground / metro station, 'performing' for passers-by.....i.e.....pretty shite. There's 3 official (that I know of) Beatles versions of this song....listen to those instead.
@@jonelson1983 You must be a very sad man Jonno and too old to change no doubt.
Rufus tone is amazing in this song
Right!
Totally agree!!
Janis Janson habla en español pendejo
Luis London His tone? If you like bag pipes for their tone.
👌👌👌👌👌
“Nothings gonna change my world….”
Have to give it to Lennon, he had such an emotional connection with words
Beautiful song. Beatles forever. ua-cam.com/video/ZPT0NQ7mc1o/v-deo.html
Favorite take of this gem. So overlooked too.
I am totally Blown Away sitting here after 15 hour day job with tears running down my face John Lennon a new are you there father son flash shoes Simply Beautiful

I normally hate Beatles covers, but this one is something special!!!!
Thank you Beatles for making this beautiful love song. ua-cam.com/video/ZPT0NQ7mc1o/v-deo.html
Uhh....
Uwielbiam ballady rockowe a jak oni śpiewają to ciary chodzą po całym ciele !
I recall listening to this song when it was first released by The Beatles, and the almost haunting words of John Lennon, "Nothing's going to change my world..." and thinking something along the line of, "Oh John, I sure hope you're right." But sadly, tragically it took just one man to change the lives of John, and his loved ones, forever...John was taken from us in an instant, and there was nothing to be done. Humpty Dumpty had fallen off the wall and he couldn't be put back together, again. What a horrible loss for his wife, Yoko, who witnessed it all...for their young son, Sean, only 5 years old...and for his former wife, Cynthia, and their son, Julian, then 17 years old. Such a waste of a life. But, he gave us his best in all he did...his fine sons; his music; his writing...and last but certainly not least, his humanitarian efforts. May he rest in peace and may we remember what he tried to teach us, "Give Peace A Chance." John Lennon is a tough act to follow, and I wonder if this isn't what his sons have struggled with through the years. Hopefully, at this point in their lives, they have each found their own ways of expressing themselves without having to consider whether or not their works measure up to that of their father's. Be yourselves, Julian and Sean, and rock on, and may God be with you, always! Julian, my sympathies to you for the passing of your mother...and Sean, tell your dear mother, every day, how much you love her! He had the time to be involved in your upbringing, for his career was well established, and you and your mother were his world. Julian, in your situation, your father was chasing the dreams and making things happen...and eventually, his work paid off, in the result of the most phenomenal band of all time, The Beatles...simply put, he did what he felt he had to do at the time...he didn't love you any less, he simply couldn't be as available to you and your mum. And, great rendition on your father's song, Sean! Have the two of you ever considered working together on something?
Kathy Bialas wow that was powerful such an expression from your heart.you made it feel alive
This is one of my favorite songs of John Lennon. Love the melody and wonderful words the feel and the meaning of the song
John said that lyrically this is the best song he's ever written.
I've loved this song for ages and will keep loving it until I die. This version is wonderful. John is surely proud, up in Heaven!
Rufus, you're the best!
This song has been a favorite of mine for over 40 yrs. This cover brought some serious tears streaming!
John said that lyrically this is the greatest song he has ever written.
rufus,s voice is amazing a pleasure to behold.
I like this literal translation of the chant. "Glory to the shining remover of darkness."
Heartbreakingly beautiful!
11 years ago I first watched this. 11 years later and its still my favourite cover of this song
See you in 10 years and 50 weeks.
@@shatner99 I'll be there/ here
GlenWithOneN Here, There and Everywhere.
This song always brings a tear to my eye
Perfect imperfections... Superbly lovely!! Fell in love with this song again!!
Rufus was amazing in this boy as well. I really heard the harmony in that song.
"Thoughts meander like a restless wind inside a letterbox"...... miss you John.
Rufus Wainright has my favourite male voice of all time, hands down.

I cannot stop listening to this on repeat. I absolutely love it! Thank you so much for posting it.
I could watch this a hundred times a day and never get tired of it.
I think Moby and Sean really add something special to it.
+Hilary Zuccarini I think Sean's harmony is chillingly beautiful and Moby singing the melody in his lower drone like voice sounds like a bowed bass underneath the higher melody Rufus does. .
+T BXTWO Terrific take on it.
Frank Rizzo hey Jerky Boy what's shakin? Long time no hear from you.
excellent analysis !!!!!!!!
Yeah because Sean sounds just like John in this one. I wanna hear him sing this solo some day
R.I.P John lennon
Love it .
They all are great singers and they did their part. I liked their performances and their contributions as it added an unusual layering.
When I was a 19 year old pregnant bride and we went to the music store on the ave in Seattle to buy their just out albums. All those years ago and the Beatles songs can call us back, right back there.
The longing of John its in Sean's eyes. But its in our hearts too, Sean😢
You know something is strange with the world around you when you are singing this song aloud and people start laughing at you. Fascinating world we live in.
This made me cry, particularly Moby and, as usual, the brilliant Rufus!
Ashley .Tellis I cried too. The pain caused by Moby's awful baritone was unbearable.
@@kaveman1021 how is it awful? are you tone deaf or something?
@@leonlawson2196 his monotone voice is a poor match for this.
I have heard so many versions of this beautiful song. This may be my favorite, and I am not even sure why.
There is A LOT to LOVE about this performance of one of John's greatest songs.
Thank you ❤️ Love this so much. Sean’s harmony is my favorite part.
Looove you Sean..!! You keep the same talent of your loved and remembered daddy in your soul..!! Looove this song, greeat performance..!!
Perfect in its frequency and vibration.

Absolutely beautiful. It's incredible how these guys came together on this cover
The good die young. But he left us with a lot of beauty!
Quite possibly the most beautiful, crystal clear version of across the universe. Thanks for posting.
You clearly haven't heard the version on Let It Be... Naked
Magic.
This is perfection for me. Celebrate this version from the day I bought that concert on Dvd back in 2002 or 3

"Nothing's gonna change my world " John Lennon a great great songwriter...little did John Lennon know his world would forever change on 12/08/1980 :(
Beautiful rendition of a beautiful song. John would approve 👌

I quite agree! He is beautiful and has a God given voice.
I just love this man’s tone. How can anyone give this the thumbs down?
Love this song and the great tones of each voice
Hello.
Loved it then and again now.
The harmonies in this song are flawless
beautifully arranged. amazing.
I thought the whole thing was brilliant. Maybe im an idiot. Thank you You Tube comments, I wouldn't know what sucks without you. Seriously, why are people always so quick to write negative comments about someones art. Art is subjective. Get over yourselves.
I loved this too, and Moby wasn't off either.
drsimmons74 Right on Mate! 👌👊
Relax it's a beautiful song buy a beautiful person. There love for john makes them perform. And then shawn too can tell the world .
I absolutely love this song. And this was the best version of this song besides the original. I cried happy tears.
You are most definitely not an idiot.

Lovely. Mr. Wainwright’s voice was & is currently the loveliest.
My favourite Beatles track,
Wow, that was awesome 👌
Oh , my god !!!!! That is absolutely gorgeous . This is the only cover of this beautiful song Ive ever liked . The lead singer has an amazing style of singing as well as a beautiful voice . Then the arrangement with a low voice and Shawn on high voice just kicks it out of this world . A magnificent interpretation of Johns most beautiful poem : "words are flowing out , like endless rain into a paper cup" !!! Wish John had been in the audience (maybe he was) !
He definitely was. Whenever you come together in my name, I‘ll be there too..
Rufus crushes this song. It's one of the few Beatles covers that I like.
i just love everything about this
When I listen to this I close my eyes and this raw beauty carries me away.
