Wow this was a very cheerful, colourful and vibrant festival. The students of Ba Schools, the Community with their floats and Town Councils all taking part and making this day wonderful. Happy 143rd Anniversary ! Grimitiyas. Lovely to see everyone in the Festive mood. The school brass band was awesome playing the National Anthem, which brought a tear to my eye. Thank you Azeem for capturing the moment amongst the Heart and the Pride of the West !
So glad you liked it, Moira. 😃 In a few months I'll be switching to better camera equipment so I hope to capture more of such events from the point of view of improved videography. It was such a wonderful day. Yes, the anthem is always moving. 😃👍🏽✌🏽👌🏽
Thank you for being our eyes on the ground. This year there was a widespread celebration all over the country, I wonder if it was a forced celebration but whatever, it was great to see the reminiscences of the dark days. However, what we are left with now is in distorted form example the knowledge passed by the girmitya village artisans so they were then, sadly. Thank you Khan sahab.
Interesting observation, Vijay. It's difficult to put the reality of Girmit in its full context especially if you happen to read Rajendra Prasad's book, “Tears in Paradise”. I read it and almost cried as I acquainted myself with some of the painful experiences the indentured labourers went through.
I just recently discovered your channel Azeem and have been binge-watching your videos! You capture the exuberant essence of Fiji that I greatly miss. It is a wonderful virtual getaway from the hectic day-to-day. Would love to go back, but I will continue enjoying it through your lens in the meantime. Looking forward to the future videos 😃
Thank you, NJ! Your kind comments are very much appreciated. I was supposed to have uploaded a vlog today in keeping with my weekly schedule but something went horribly wrong with the footage. Yes, the exuberance of Fiji is such a glorious treat. I’m planning to capture more of the same so please stay tuned! 😃👍🏽🙏🏽😎🇫🇯

The Girmit (The Agreement) itself would have been a great doctrine of truth to treasure so to really understand what conditions were laid forth to the indentured labourers before they set sails to Fiji and more importantly were these terms and conditions fulfilled, was The Girmit just a spark with no fire! or a fire with no spark!! Those times and tides were tough as the labourer's nutured land with their own sweat, blood, and love. History never repeats itself as they say but it reminds us. What happened to those labourer's who returned to India, and what of the sail master's who brought the girmitiya's here to Fiji. The seeds of hope sown by our ancestors strong hands and even stronger heart ages ago calls us, it unites us as human beings, our motherland our beloved Fiji beats in our hearts. Fiji has seen sacrifices of many men in the past and present and it is these sacrifices that kindles success for all, their pain is now our privilege! Godspeed to Fiji and all Fijians who are always doing their best for Fiji, and paying homage to all our ancestors, indentured and indeginous🙏 🇫🇯 With gratitude and a humble heart, Vinaka sara vakalevu Azeem 🙏

Yes, nobody talk or make documentary over this poor Girmit labors... Very pitty.... It's looks like a forgotten history of the British Indians transportation over the Atlantic Oceans...
Hi Azeem. Your filming is sometimes quite in your face and feels rather voyeuristic. I appreciate that you want to capture the many beautiful faces that make up Fiji but especially in this video I felt like not everyone was happy to have their camera right in their face and I hope that in the future you can pick up on these cues and be more mindful that not everyone wants to be filmed so up close and personal.
I'm afraid I would have to respectfully disagree, Jaclyn. I'm very sensitive to anyone not wanting to be filmed and I can't remember a single instance during Girmit Remembrance Day of anyone being less than happy with being caught on camera.
