I made this recipe tonight and snazzed it up a bit with garlic, thinned it out with water and added it to Pasta-it tasted like a Gourmet Mac n Cheese. Holy whaaaaaat!! Sooooo gooooood 🤤
Eating solid foods depends on the interest of the child. My first son wasn't interested in food until he was 11 month old. So we startet with 11 month. The second was interested with 5 month and than we startet with 5 month! Everything was fine!
Yes on the oil-free. I know you’ve talked a little about it before, but I would love to show my husband so he can understand why I’ve transitioned to way less oil. And yes Erin just feed Max anything and everything you want. Don’t be scared! He’s hungry he wants it! They have a sense of smell and want all the good things we make!! :)
This looks amazing! I would love to see both an oil free and dairy free video like you mentioned! And I HIGHLY recommend Baby Led Weaning. Did it with both my kiddos and it was by far the most natural, stress free way to go! Love you guys!
Love this recipe! Your little guy is soooo adorable! He sounds ready to eat some healthy foods! We have successfully utilized “baby led weaning.” Our babes are now newly 2 & 3 yrs old and they are AMAZING EATERS! Im a firm believer in introducing veggies and non sweet foods first and waiting just a bit for very sweet fruits. Helps them really develop a palate for non sweet foods. Also, don’t be afraid to use spices to expand their palate as well! Start small and go from there. It’s also super important to not do a ton of salt yet (even healthy sea or Himalayan) because of their kidneys still developing and can’t process it very well. Happy eating! Love your channel! Cheers & blessings to your family! ❤️✌🏽🌟
Loving the cheez sauce! Thanks for sharing. I've been having trouble finding a good method for cashew cheez sauce but this is good!!! I've been experimenting with it too, adding a touch of lemon pepper, garlic powder. I even mixed in a tiny bit of salsa just like my mom used to do with that yucky tostitos cheese sauce from the grocery store. My version was 👌 delish. Can't wait to share it with her. Happy MDW!
First foods for a 6 month old... I'm a Maternal Child Nurse and the advice I give to my patients is that it's best to start with veggies first and then move to fruits as children will be more likely to enjoy veggies later on. You can blend or mash veggies and add breast milk to be really make it enjoyable and familiar to baby. Start with one food served 2x per day for 4 days before introducing another veggie or food. This will allow his body to react and you should be able to tell if there is a reaction within those 4 days. Good luck! Thanks for all the wonderful foodie inspiration!
i love you guys! it's so amazing to see a complete life on display here! it's wonderful seeing a beautiful healthy relationship and taking good care of yourselves! Sending the light of the world out to us!
Love this, thank you!! Max is adorable. I highly recommend baby-led weaning - worked beautifully with both my kiddos. Baked (softened) sweet potatoes are a perfect first food to introduce texture and taste!
Gotta love cheesy fries! Perfect appetizer honestly for so many occasions! I’m thinking of summer bbqs on baked potatoes with beans and cashew sour cream! Mmm
I've recently stumbled upon your channel and have been binge watching your videos. I'm not a vegan or vegetarian but my husband (Max) and I have been trying to be more healthy. I really find your life style inspirational. We both want to try bring vegan for 30 days but it is hard as college students in a rural place with no whole foods! 😥 We shop at Walmart! Anyway love the videos and grateful for this inspiration.
My daughters first food was mashed pumpkin. We were away on holiday and I was cooking it fir dinner while she watched me from her stroller . No high chair at our farm stay and she kept holding her hands out and doing a lip licking action with her mouth . She loved her first mouthful of food
Thanks for the recipes!! I have three boys and something we've done with the last two is waiting until 7months more like 8 months for solids. If he's sitting up well and past 6 months but I read that extra month of waiting is worth it to make sure there system is ready. We did baby led weaning with them all, really just avocado, banana and sweet potatoes for a good while and then at 1 year more complex foods. I breastfed them all past 15 months. :) you guys are awesome!
Hello from Connecticut, an oil free video would be great. I've just begun my journey to plant based diet. I'm dealing with some health issues. Your channel has really inspired me 😊. Thank you and God bless you and your family!
Hello from Paris in France. I discovered your Channel Yesterday and y love your vidéos. I am vegan since october 2016 and y like recipes healthy without oil.( Hight carb low fat.) Your baby is so lovely. Thanks you for sharing with us on youtube and excuse me for my english so Bad
One of my little ones started eating “early” and one “late.” We went by when they expressed interest in the food. Usually just tasting the food we had on our plates. To me, he looks like he could be ready to start tasting a bit. Will make the sauce and fries tomorrow. Thank you for the recipe
Erin - are you familiar with baby led weaning (there's a book on it). Perfect for Max as he is reaching for foods. As a Speech-Language Pathologist, working with little ones with feeding difficulties - this method of weaning babies is AWESOME!
Yeaaaa! Im gonna make this “cheese” cause 😂😂 Max when starting start with veggies!!! Your already doing great keep rocking!!! And love to Bo!!!!!💙❤️💙❤️💙
Love it! You’re making me want an air fryer!😉 for six month olds and starting solids, I found every baby so different. I had to keep trying banana puréed, avocado, etc. I tried to cook oatmeal and purée that as well. This last foster baby I had wasn’t having it, lol! The physical therapist who would visit encouraged me to persevere, as the gag reflex gets adjusted to texture. It got better and better. (By the way, writing from Tuscany, our 30 year wedding anniversary and loving it! I remember watching your videos there❤️)
There’s no rush. Start him on solids at 6 months. I breast fed my son from birth to his 2nd birthday, but started him on homemade solids at 6 months old. Today he’s healthy, happy!
You’re already doing an AMAZING job with your little delicious dumpling, Max. Keep up the awesome work!!! I appreciate all that you’re both doing for this community!!! 🤗
I LOVE my Air Fryer!! See I knew you guys would eventually get one, bonus no oils:) For Max's fist solids what about mashed sweet potato? Yea, why are you oil free?? God Bless, xxoo
Happy 5 months Max!! When my kids were babies, I was told to start with easy to digest, plain vegetables like squash or carrots first, one at a time for several days in a row so you can tell if there is any reaction or tummy discomfort. Then move on to green veggies with fruits being last so they don't get used to the sweet fruits and refuse the vegetables. I used to buy frozen organic veggies, steam and puree them in small amounts to save on the expense of jarred baby food, which I did buy some of for the convenience of when we were out and not at home. For fruits you can buy organic canned or jarred in juice instead of trying to process fresh fruit. You'll want to puree everything very smooth at first so he doesn't gag, but as the months go by you can make it slightly more textured, and you can add in cooked blended oats or rice as well.
Definitely could use a video on benefits of avoiding oil. I adhere to no oil when cooking at home, but struggle when eating out at restaurants. Wondering whats best, maybe to fast through outings? 🤔
We make an exception when eating at restaurants because it’s virtually unavoidable. Just do your thing for the 99% of the meals you eat at home and enjoy going out without worry!
In Hawaii we feed our babies Poi. Or if they’re having a hard time sleeping through the night poi thinned out with water for them to have in the bottle-high carbs sleep after 😂 Also there’s all kinds of Poi-Kalo, Ulu, etc.
EatMoveRest Unless you go to a clean and pono source it’ll be that rubbish they give to tourists. But depending on where you live there may be a distributor. I know a friend of mine that does Ai Manuahi, and they ship out kalo chunk and kalo poi. His is of the best quality but he does sell out crazy fast and he sell tonnage 😯 If you were in Hawaii babies also get Uala (Molokai Sweet Potato, not yams) the leaves just like the tuber is edible. Uala leaves can be eaten raw or steamed up like spinach. We’d also give our children a little Limu but we have all sorts of varieties of Limu (seaweed) here. I just made some vegan “fish” sticks by throwing in some Limu Kohu into the lentil base 🤤
EatMoveRest Also just FYI, Kalo is a natural source of fluoride as well so good for baby’s teeth development and yours. And if you don’t already know cloves is a natural oral analgesic so when baby starts teething clove tea or home made clove oil (NEVER essential oil) will really help 👍🏽
EatMoveRest Kalo and Taro are the same thing 👍🏽 Try check out Ai Manuahi (that’s the name of a reliable distributor), but if you find Hawaiians in your area just ask around. Most often we have to pack it in our suitcases or freeze it in coolers to take it on the plane up to relatives. There’s also many different varieties so you have to be careful because the differences in taste/nutrition AND how they’re cultivated can be vastly different as well. My favourite Kalo is ʻeleʻele, which means black/very deep dark-it’s naturally CRAZY sweet, kind of reminds me of creamed honey. Oh hey, I posted on the dad video but here: you might like the rainbow carrots at whole foods, the heirloom carrots taste waaaaay better and different than the standard orange. And my favourite raw vegan restaurant in Hawaii (Greens & Vines) adds Jicama “fries” to their meals. Whole Foods also sells it; you might like that as a snack too 👍🏽 I can’t even imagine how that would taste with this yummy cheese sauce 🤤
Love your channel! Question. My hubby and I are in weight loose stage right now. Can this "Cheese" sauce be made with beans for a low in fat option? Thanks!
EatMoveRest that might be a good video idea - why to not use a microwave...also I’m interested in the oil-free information, too. Love your videos! Max is so chill and happy - his smile is adorable! 💖
Really looking forward to the oil free video. Im trying to go oil free myself :) Do the fries get crispy in that air fryer? In the oven I can't really get them that crispy without oil and they take forever
I can't wait to make this! how do you make tofu in that air fryer? If I can make it crispy I'm going to buy one! I can't seem to make tofu right no matter what I do
My son's first food was avocado, then banana. Cut up in small pieces and put baby in a high chair (as little clothing as possible) and let him taste the food. He will make a beautiful mess. .... When he starts teething, cut the banana into slices and freeze them for 20 min. Give him the frozen slices. .... Love and blessings...y'all look like you were born to be parents....🤹
This cheese sauce looks soooo good! I could just eat it right out of the screen 😋🤤 I love how you've kept the recipe so simple and easy to follow! Thank you so much for sharing this awesome recipe with us all xx I'm going to give this sauce a go tomorrow to bring as a snack to a party I'm going to 😍 Hopefully it goes well and looks as good as yours! 🤞If you're interested, I have a Channel myself, and I make vegan gf recipes too which I share on there if you'd like to see them 😘❤ Otherwise you're video was fantastic! I also love how you've talked about the health benefits of this sauce by including the tumeric and cashews! So interesting 😍
Hi Dusty and Erin, I just made the ‘cheese’ dip and I love it, but my husband doesn’t. Now I have a bit much for just myself. How long does it keep in the fridge and can you freeze it too? Thank you so much, Leonie
Loved the recipe and the fries. Question: Do you still love this air fryer? I am on the fence but I see it has a small footprint and I am interested in purchasing one but the reviews keep me on the fence.
Love your energy, I have been vegan for about 3 years and I rarely eat processed vegan food stick to a WFPB diet but I have gained about 10 pounds in the last 3 months and I have not changed a thing any thoughts I am very discouraged other channels are too judgmental on this subject.
Regardless of what type of food you eat, weight gain is typically more attributed to calories in vs calories out. You could try to eat lower fat, or lower calories and also increase your physical activity. Just some suggestions...otherwise it could be a hormonal issue. Hope this helps!
Introducing solids: Doctors told me to start with puréed , individual food items to start. Then as you know what works and doesn’t you can start mixing foods. They also said to introduce common allergen foods “nuts” as soon as possible to reduce chances of allergies to those foods.
Steph Bellamy yes! You could try that, or silken tofu also makes a great replacement ...maybe tahini too? We could also share one of our fat free cheese recipes if you’re interested!
As an Indian and a homely foodie.. and knowing how much u both enjoy Indian food.. would like to suggest u start with some lentil soup, mashed fruits, cooked rice water initially and once he is able to digest.. move on solids!
How do y’all feel about the material of the tray of the air fryer? I’m so tempted by them. I don’t believe any nonstick is good. I’m just trying to weigh pros and cons.
Marie Brock, HHC, AADP guess we hadn’t thought about it too much, but the oven has its drawbacks too, from what Dr. Greger has said! Whatever gets us all to eat our veggies, hah!
Babes love mouthing foods, but the gag reflex can be a challenge. Began my daughter at 6 months with avocado and sweet potato, but breastmilk stayed her preferred for a while. She didn't really take off on trying foods regularly till at least 9 months, though she loved to grab. Baby led weaning.
I made this cheese sauce and it tastes great!
I made this recipe tonight and snazzed it up a bit with garlic, thinned it out with water and added it to Pasta-it tasted like a Gourmet Mac n Cheese. Holy whaaaaaat!! Sooooo gooooood 🤤

YUMM! It looks delicious, for my vegan cheese sauce I use carrots and potatoes along with cashews.
Happy 5 months old to Max...love❤ the snack recipe 😍
Two top foods that my ten month old loves and has loved since she had her first taste is Sweet Potato and Avocado xox
Those are our favorites haha!

Avocado is an AWESOME first solid food for babies!
You can blend it with banana and a little tahini and sweetener to make pudding.

Stephanie Waskoenig thanks for weighing in! That advice makes perfect sense! Enjoy the recipe!
Erin - are you familiar with baby led weaning (there's a book on it). Perfect for Max as he is reaching for foods. As a Speech-Language Pathologist, working with little ones with feeding difficulties - this method of weaning babies is AWESOME!
We will definitely be trying this method!
Yummy! So trying this. I might throw it on some pasta for my son to make mac and cheese!
Hi from Egypt! Oil free for the win!! :)
Yummy. Are you planning on making all of Max’s food too. I like the little baby mixer you can buy.
Yes we will definitely be making Max’s food too!💚

Great idea to mix the two!!

Love this recipe I will try it out myself. Btw just a quick question: what are the pros and cons of going oil free?
What an **awesome** video ‼️
Yur cheeze sauce is spot on‼️
Love yur positive v i b e s‼️
Love your channel! Question. My hubby and I are in weight loose stage right now. Can this "Cheese" sauce be made with beans for a low in fat option? Thanks!

What is that water spout thing above your stove!?! So cool! I want one!
Leely Standen when we got rid of our microwave we had a blank spot and so Dusty put in that faucet to fill pots!!
I wondered the same thing...never seen that before. How fun!
EatMoveRest that might be a good video idea - why to not use a microwave...also I’m interested in the oil-free information, too. Love your videos! Max is so chill and happy - his smile is adorable! 💖
Thanks for the great ideas!
Really looking forward to the oil free video. Im trying to go oil free myself :) Do the fries get crispy in that air fryer? In the oven I can't really get them that crispy without oil and they take forever
Sometimes they do, sometimes they don’t. We’re still experimenting!
How long would this last in the fridge? I just made it and it’s so good! My 5 year old couldn’t get enough!
Kimberly White it should last about 4 days!
I can't wait to make this! how do you make tofu in that air fryer? If I can make it crispy I'm going to buy one! I can't seem to make tofu right no matter what I do
I didn’t even know fries would work with just a little bit of water and no oil! Can’t wait to try. Why no oil though?
Oil is 100% refined fat, just like sugar is a refined carb! We opt to get our fats from whole food sources like nuts, seeds, and avocado!
Paulette Frantz thanks for the helpful tips-much appreciated!!

Regardless of what type of food you eat, weight gain is typically more attributed to calories in vs calories out. You could try to eat lower fat, or lower calories and also increase your physical activity. Just some suggestions...otherwise it could be a hormonal issue. Hope this helps!
Thank you I appreciate your imput
Introducing solids: Doctors told me to start with puréed , individual food items to start. Then as you know what works and doesn’t you can start mixing foods. They also said to introduce common allergen foods “nuts” as soon as possible to reduce chances of allergies to those foods.
My baby has 9,5 m now,can I give her nuts?milk nuts?
Heather Kjernisted great info! Thanks for sharing!

Can you replace the cashews with something? (Not nuts) would sunflower seeds work?
Steph Bellamy yes! You could try that, or silken tofu also makes a great replacement ...maybe tahini too? We could also share one of our fat free cheese recipes if you’re interested!

Going oil- free will be difficult as we own an olive farm in Italy.
I think it's ok to just eat the whole olives.
How do y’all feel about the material of the tray of the air fryer? I’m so tempted by them. I don’t believe any nonstick is good. I’m just trying to weigh pros and cons.
Good question I've been wondering the same. So far sticking to the good old stove.
Marie Brock, HHC, AADP guess we hadn’t thought about it too much, but the oven has its drawbacks too, from what Dr. Greger has said! Whatever gets us all to eat our veggies, hah!
Please more about oil free reveries and lectures

We did do just the vitamin K! It can help more than harm!

We started with potatoes, parsnips or carrots.....
