    those Buntings are pretty and the woodpecker found a way to sneak some with it's long beak, I just ordered a couple bird feeders so I will see how it works lol, not this style though

    Nice Feeder. Looked like the Woodpecker tried as hard as he could to get a meal, but just couldn't do it! Love all the birds that you get in your backyard. I truly enjoy every video you post! Thanks! ♥

    That is really a nice bird feeder. The woodpecker didn't look like he got much. Bunting birds are so colorful and cute. Thank you.😄 for sharing.

      Hey Stella I'm a fellow bird lover, and I'm doing a research project on house sparrows. Would you mind taking my extremely brief survey? www.surveyshare.com/s/AYAE2JB

    Nice feeder review. Glad to see the cowbirds excluded. They are a problem for me. My PB's return in March so I definitely need to get set with a "Painted Bunting Only" feeder. I'm sure some of the other smaller species will visit as well. Thanks for posting.

    I am in Florida. I can see in my yard so many buntings. I do have this kind of feeder but without cage. I think for squirrel millet is hard so they don't touch it. From where I can buy this kind of feeder so I can place round dish on bottom to save seeds because they mess to much. I also protect with umbrella so even in rain and hot they can enjoy.

    I am looking the same cage for my buntings because doves & squirrels alwayes try to eat, is this cage separated? Or with bird feeder? I do have with 6 port..

      It comes with a removable tube feeder inside you can use it inside the cage or by itself. BB

    We just purchased this feeder. It is just like it if not exactly the same. Ours is a Woodlink/Audubon brand. When did those two companies link up? I don’t know but if this is an example of what we are to expect then I am very disappointed. We have a Stokes feeder that is much like this one. The problem with the Stokes feeder is that there is no way to clean it. Seed gets stuck in the bottom and gets wet and goes bad but you cannot take it apart to clean it! It is sad but a lot of people do not realize that you cannot just put a bird feeder out and never clean it. You will kill birds with that rotted seed. If it rains where you live the seed gets wet and goes bad.
    Anyway, the Stokes feeder is very sturdy but can’t be cleaned. The Woodlink/Audubon feeder is not made nearly as sturdy. The metal is much more light weight and the plastic is quite thin. We are keeping the Woodlink/Audubon anyway because the design is such that it can be taken apart and cleaned easily. Too bad we have to sacrifice quality for serviceability.

    Great review on this feeder! I'm going to look into getting me one of these. We did get goldfinch last year but this year it doesn't look like we're going to get to see them. And I think I've seen maybe a couple of greenies of the buntings but not those pretty rainbow buntings like you were getting! But I do get some beautiful purple finches and red house finches as well as some little warblers that pass through. My J's and red bellies have both learned how to use my big bird feeder. And my cardinal gets extremely territorial with the little finches. I wonder did you notice if the tufted tit mice and chickadees use it much?

      @MyBackyardBirding  4 роки тому +1

      Haven't tried it out up north yet but I would think chickadees and titmice would go for it.

    Do Starlings can get in? I have problems with them.

    • @MyBackyardBirding
      @MyBackyardBirding  4 роки тому +1

      I don't have any experience with Starlings, but I would think not, my cardinals can't get in
      and larger sparrows are reluctant to try - house finches and such sized birds can get in, but also are reluctant to try at times. You will have to keep it away from easy access by squirrels. BB

      Tie thin wire to some of the top rungs and let it dangle down to a length that is an inch or two lower than the bottom of the feeder. This generally deters most House Sparrows.

    Are house sparrows able to feed?

    • @stellabastoneintoronto955
      @stellabastoneintoronto955 3 роки тому +1

      House Sparrows can always get into these caged feeders with a 1.5" gap between bars. If they are not indigenous to your area (e.g., if. you are in North America), one way to deter most of them is to tie thin (filament) wire to top area of the bars and let it dangle to a length the runs to a few inches below the bottom of the feeder. This generally works to deter most (but not all) House Sparrows.

    This sort of feeder is OK to deter squirrels but not Starlings. Not only do they eat the seeds but shake the feeder so much that the food ends up on the ground. It is the sheer numbers that cause the problem on all feeders.
    Starlings are quarrelsome bullies infact, they are pests !

      This is not so much a reply as a question. Is there a way to take the very bottom off this feeder for cleaning?

  • @brucegow3833

    Stop feeding the squirrels! They are the one animal that does not need to be fed! They can forage in the trees and forest on their own... like they are supposed to. Leave the feeders for the song birds.
