    This is one of the best trumpet tute channels. Everything is clearly explained but not in a condescending way. Really useful ideas that are presented in a way that can be easily implemented into daily practice. Thanks and keep up the great content.

    Yes this is great information on slapping the valves. I’ve thought about it many times and thought that it meant to press them harder. And to some extent that is true.
    I’ve also thought that if I take my fingers off the keys that I’d be slower because of the gap difference, but actually it’s that my fingers are allowed to be more free to be flexible And light flexing. I’m going to practice this technique. I’ll let you know how it works for me. Your explanations are easy for us to understand.

    My method of moving the fingers is pretty much the same I think - rather than bend the joints of the finger all equally (as you would normally in life), the main force is applied at the knuckle, with much less at the other joints. I practice this by drumming out chromatic scales on a table, with this method you can hit the table with a lot more power than if you bent all the joints equally. I guess being a piano player who has done hundreds or thousands of hours of Hanon exercises probably helps too :)

    Thank you for all your videos.... About this slapping valve technique - I have been using it and like it very much, but when I do it I have strong tendency to put strong emphasis on each note where I use it like a marcato. And especially on a slurred section I may not want that. I suppose just practice, practice, practice?

    Hi Paul, thanks for the videos. They're very helpful. I have a request. Can you link the Trumpet Takeaway and Trumpet Prof channel? Also, it may be useful to add the name 'Paul Mayes' somewhere on each channel description. YT didn't bring up this channel when I searched with your name.

      Really enjoying the videos, regarding valve oil I’m using Blue Juice does anyone have any other ways to keep the valves working freely?

    Wow, I slapped naturally and got told off by my teacher and told too bend my fingers so that the ends keep contact with the valves. Now I have an answer for when I get told again, this vid!?! 🤪🤪🤪

    Sir I want to know that, If a particular song is in F major scale, then in for marching band, for b flat trumpet and alto saxophone, would the scale remain the same for both? eg: F major for both instruments.

      Aliasgar Virdiwala No. Alto Sax is in Eb. The equivalent scale is C major.

    What is the condition that keeps you from holding your trumpet with your left hand? Is it a n overuse injury?

    Are you slurring the chromatic scale when playing them fast? 👍😁

    Why does the sound colour change when playing the 2nd and 3rd combination (Ab) around the 5:30 mark? Valve alignment issue?

    • @inkwel7736
      @inkwel7736 4 роки тому

      Because 2nd combo is A natural and 3rd combo is A flat.
