- Our regular customer Jonathan Stout came back and played our 1929 Gibson L-5 for us. He really can play these amazing arch top guitars that we have here at Norman's Rare Guitars! Do you guys agree?
sometimes its just nice to sit back and hear a guy as good as this just play.....thanks norm another gem.
wow he is so talented. He looks like a Nasa engineer from the 60's, lol
he dresses that way to hide his power
It’s so refreshing to hear such wonderful playing on a beautiful sounding guitar. No amp, no effects, just awesome!
It's nice to know there are still people out there playing the great classic stuff.
Fine playing, for sure! Thank you.
It's great to see the kid from Christmas Story grew up to be a phenomenal guitar player
Man this guy is super polished at his art of playing. I have listened to this video a few times just to hear a real artist.
Fabulous playing! It takes a player like Jonathan to bring out the best in an instrument like this.
This guy knows his stuff and that's a fact! Enjoyed his rendition of Paper Moon, Nat King Cole just smiled along side of Eddie Lang. Great video!
I'd definitely enjoy hearing more of this.
wonderful stuff, always great to hear a player who is dedicated to his style
I've just realised that beautiful guitar is nearly 90 years old and is just getting better every year! Beautiful playing too thanks for bringing these gems to us Norm! Maybe one day I can come across the pond, visit and buy something special!
Just walk around the pond!
Damn, that's some pro playing and a pro sounding guitar :D
Sounds great with a great guitarist playing it.
I keep playing this over & over.....very nice...classy....really enjoyable to see guys who can play like this
What a tone this guy knows his stuff , beautiful chords cool
That was exceptional. Wow. Love these videos, whether its celebrities or everyday customers.

Holy Shit, that was AMAZING! I did not see that coming at all. LOL
Great sound.
Great player!
I heard a army of angels sing as I walked thru the store. Truly a guitar candy store with dream guitars on every wall and floor space.
Killer playing!!!
Excellent! Thank you for playing. Thumbs way up!
Talent.
Magic mate .
omg this guitar's sound is astonishing
emperor regent sounds better
sounds great
Breathless....Never really considered learning to play this kind of music until now.
He really makes that guitar sing. Loved all the funky chords.
A fine stylist, just the right spirit. I admired his latest CD very much!
What a delight!
Thank you,
gosh that's beautiful
That was awesome...man that guitarist sounds amazing. Probably the most authentic sounding "swing" playing I've heard
GREAT PLAYER AND GUITAR - COOL SONG - FINE STORE -
probably the best and most badass guitar player who ever walked into norm's shop
Amazing!
Now that's showcasing how full and beautiful an old Gibson can sound.
Wow! Amazing player! Beautiful guitar!
Jonathan is Amazing. Thanks Norm.
This guy kills it every time Norm has him on.....a great player of this musical genre..... I have happy feet right now.....
Nice guitar and nice playing. Soloing without rhythm section ain't easy especially to sound good.
That was truly mind boggling! Thanks!
Beautiful guitar and beautiful playing!!
That tone conjures up so many memories
I want more Jonathan stout... seems like a sweet man
BRAVO!
Beautiful tone! Amazing.
Wow...he really dances with that beauty.
Very nice and refreshing. Beautiful example of a ultra rare king of the crop L5. Jazz musicians Holy grail. Although I'm a metal head lol still would love a crack at playing something on it
wooo great!
Beautiful playing on a gorgeous guitar.
What a great player, really enjoyed that thanks
beautiful finally someone playing real music!
What is 'real' music?
All music is "real" cuz all have different tones and sounds and just different feelings conveyed ...
Dude, look in the mirror. Jonathan Stout has got talent, something you don't have.
Nick Newman im not saying that he doesnt, im just saying that all music is real should be judged by the people that like it
Did Duke Ellington compose/play/lead "real music"? In a common quote ascribed to Duke, he supposedly said "There are two types of music: good music and bad music. I like both kinds." He was (unsurprisingly) on the right track.
If it sounds good to you, it's good.
Mad Skillz Bruh
This guy's playing is amazing. Wonderful tone that he's getting out that acoustic archtop.
beautiful sound
That old saying....you can't judge a book by its cover!!! He rocked it!!!!
Incredible!
Very nice!
Go Jonathan, go. Sounds great.
Totally awesome.
Unreal Playing right there.
Yes, we agree
very cool sounds fantastic.
Awesome, great style and different from the usual modern guitar
You can hear every tone. It almost sounds amplified. Really nice.
Ringing like a goddamn bell!
greatings from Brazil
I'm an instant fan!
I most certainly do!
Lovely playing!
Wow great playing
Wonderful.
cool chord progression
Great playing. Nice chord melody head
wow what a player
Damn. so smooth.
I have a mid '20s L-3 and while a different design from this 'box' (no f- holes) it has it's own personality. The best part is how wide the fretboard is to articulate these chords and the action is great.
Really cool, melodic playing
Great playing !
Awesome !!
He's like Guitar George. He knows all the chords. I'd love to see him spank a Tele w/ flatwounds.
Frank Macauda Mind, he's not strictly rhythm though. He'll make it cry or sing.
Fab guitar and player
I love that old 20’s Gibson headstock.
Norm still has this guitar! It was guitar of the day yesterday.
He had a guy with a similar tie on recently too. 😂
Similar but different year.
It had a family guy feel to it. But on a more important note. That is one of the most beautiful guitars I've ever seen. Found an awesome looking 1936 Martin R-18 arch top at the flea market at the Rose Bowl last week and I've been infatuated with acoustic arch tops since. Guy was asking $1,800. Not in good shape but beautiful. I want an arch top so bad.
This guy's a MONSTER! Whoa
Nice video. Beautiful guitar, love the tone. Excellent playing. I wonder what his criteria was to select the one he did out of the others? Always nice to hear someone playing a good instrument who really knows how to play it, but I'd never underestimate the value, ability and importance of a better quality instrument to inspire one of lesser ability to keep striving and learning. Not that a beginner should always go out and buy the most expensive thing, but trying to learn on something with the strings falling off can be counter productive. That beautiful tone is something to aspire to -
Great playing and video- The only other guitar store that might have as wide a selection would be the legendary, George Gruhn.
If Michael Douglas was unavailable for 'Falling Down', I could see this guy taking that role.
you can almost hear the hiss, crackles and pops..😁
Those strings look like steel hausers! Great playing.
VERY NICE
I love this kind of music! Does anyone have any recommendations on artists to listen to?
Listin to the swing guitarists of the 1930's and 40's to get an idea, also you may want to lear how to read music lol
Charlie Christian ,Early Barney Kessel, Les Pauls Hawaiian Album
Eddie Lang!
Jonathan has some great music as well. look him up.
Nick Lucas
sounds so fucking good
The boy can play!
I'd love to see Johnathan Stout play with R. J. Ronquillo. Also love to see R. J. Ronquillo make an appearance
Good Jams!! Cheers, G :D London
Yo I remember playing Its Only A Paper Moon when I was the guitarist for my middle school jazz band...
like in the 40s?
Rocco Astoria
Uh no? Like in the early 2000's Surly was not that long ago 😂... I don't even know if the song was even written yet in the 40's...
Danny Lopez nice that song is very old my friend
Rocco Astoria
Um not really. Schools jazz bands always pick songs as old as this... What did you think school jazz bands are playing? Punk rock music? 😂 although School jazz bands will do rock blues tunes, and some funk stuff, along with a lot of Latin jazz stuff...
like I said the song is about 80 years old
