What worked for me.. Applied some toothpaste on my iron plate, sprinkle salt over it. Turned the iron to max for few seconds. Then scrubbed it with sponge soaked in vinegar and water. It took 5-10 mins to get rid of all the rust. To clean steam holes, I added water with small amount of vinegar in water reservoir and then steamed the whole water. Tried and tested! ✔️
the first one method works but after you apply toothpaste and baking soda, we need to turn on the iron for a while, then the rub it with clean cloth affer turning off the iron. Make sure the iron is cooling slowly and you can rub once its temperature is moderate.
..Prevention is better than cure. I have found that most people iron at too high a temperature . The steam setting on my iron has high, medium , low. Set the steam to low. I have found this setting works perfectly and I never have to clean my iron. The rule is start off at a low temperature and increase the temperature gradually. Write the settings down or keep them in a mental sock. Give it a go you have nothing to lose and hopefully everything to gain.

Tried 2nd method, it cleaned the iron , BUT, it got scratches on that part, now during ironing it doesn't slide smooth on clothes, 2nd method not recommended. There is a reason the company polishes the sole plate. Here the video maker is only concerned about cleaning the plate and not about what it will result in using the iron. Now I am going to change my plate or buy a new iron.
Hey thanks for sharing. I wouldn't recommend scrubbing because scratches can snag on some fabrics like chiffon/georgette. Toothpaste and soda worked. I turned on the heat for 30 seconds and i saw that it was getting dry so I sprayed a little water. when it cooled a little I tried cleaning with tissue but saw no results yet. I got a bit of cardboard and tried scratching at the edge and VOILA! the whole layer peeled off like dry crisp paper! revealing smooth shiny iron underneath. No scrubbing required at all. I cleaned with a moist cloth afterwards. Note: Mine was not a steam iron (not a fan of those) and had no holes. The burn was bad it had a nylon-y carpet burn on it all over the surface. Was in very bad condition. One other time I took it to a bike mechanic where they buff tyre rims and they buffed my iron smooth and I could see my reflection on it afterwards :D
Hey thanks for the tip! (I’m not a fan of holes either) mine is old fashioned one & I find most people don’t have these days. I’m gonna try your tip !✌️
