Great content and backgroundinfo on Hoogerheide which I did not know. And I am from The Netherlands.
Keep up the good work 👍

I want to commend you Bill for also evolving with CX and what must be the hardest year ever to cover a sport with no domestic scene and almost no direct access to the euro scene.

Who knew? This is a great history lesson of one of the greatest Cx races on the calendar. Good stuff!

So good, Bill. You made my Tuesday. I was waiting for the Gen X references, I confess.

Good that courses are evolving - and it needs to be said, some courses definitely need to. If you look at how XC has evolved, and is now far more a challenge, that is how I'd like to see CX evolve.

This was awesome. I've definitely watched Hoogerheide over all these years but never fully grasped all the changes that the course has went through. Wanna go halves on an AirBnb in that apartment building for Worlds??

FLOW is an optimal psychological state that people experience when engaged in an activity that is both appropriately challenging to one's skill level, often resulting in immersion and concentrated focus on a task. This can result in deep and high levels of personal satisfaction.

For sure. I was trying to take that concept and nudge it into the context of how it works with the race evolution rather than human performance. I had a whole wu wei chunk I left out to save myself and everyone else from that debate.

AirB&B gold for those apartment owners

Another awesome episode. I maybe going against the grain but, while appreciating the constraints development and evolution have imposed, I preferred the older courses - like the drop off the road into the swamp of despair. Perhaps it was the shock of the "building site era", I'm sure I'll forget it all in the future. Might just have to consider a trip to the world's in 2023 though.

Such great races on the old course design. I don't think those races were sub-par, may not have emphasized that enough. The race is routinely voted the best World Cup. I was more leaning into the changes to the venue that could have been catastrophic turned out to add some challenging and entertaining features.

@@WideAnglePodium oh, no criticism of the work, I don't think there was anything in the piece to suggest that the older races were Sub-topper, just a personal observation and possibly because the changes came off the back of the awesome Sven/Styby world's.
It was a great article on the topic of how we must constantly evolve/progress just to stay still.

Hoogerheide wasn't scheduled in 20/21? right?

    • @WideAnglePodium

Scheduled for January 24, 2021. Organizers canceled the event in October.
