Just found your channel and I am greatful I did. Extremely useful tips and step by step informative instructions. Only thing I can offer as advice is the green cover you cut away, to help things glue down, shouldn't be thrown away. You can cut into smaller pieces, put those pieces into an inexpensive food processor and use for bushes, tree foliage, and at the base of those mountains to cover it so it looks more seamless. NO disrespect intended just an idea to help cut cost as manufactured grass, foliage etc. can get really expensive thats all.
The finished result reminds me of my first layout that me and my Dad did. Only difference was, it was Pennsylvania Railroad themed completed with wired to work amber position light signals and a storage siding for a two car passenger train handled by an E6 class 'Atlantic' steam locomotive while an ERS15 (EMD GP7) handled a short freight and switched cars at a freight station. In an update we did in 2004, we added a mini tank farm for tank car switching and made the route double track, so the two trains could pass each other as if on a main line as opposed to a branch line.
For the trees before I put down the mat on the table I would’ve cut a peace of 1 inch foam to size and put that under the mat so when you get the trees you can clip off the stem and install a wire so you can just poke it into the foam.
Hi Philip here me and my girlfriend are doing my layout similar to your one is that ok let me know.and it is a 00 scale Iam doing.are green model grass mat easy to use.let me know
The island of Sodor should be British, who use raised platforms for their stations. Where is the raised platform? An American depot doesn't quite cut it with Thomas.
I have spent months investigating how to build a railroad layout and discovered a fantastic resource at Jareks hobby club (google it if you are interested)

With the utility poles a nice trick you can do is string some black string across them and then it’ll look like actual powerlines.

Good pointers for the tress and a quick mountain.
The 9x8 L-shape HO-scale layout I built in 2014 used one of those vacuum-formed hills, along with a similarly-formed tunnel.
first comment of the day. Looks good David glad to see the layout is done. Keep those layouts coming MR.

No 28 AWG Enameled magnet wire between the poles? Great real power distribution too!

It is fun making your first railroad layout for ho scale, but the locomotives, rolling stocks, buildings, and trees are too expensive.
Would any one know an easy way to add a tunnel to a lay out like this one
you can buy pre made tunnels like the hill
k thanks
i'm building something like this but a lot bigger for my lionel trains...especially after i get my 4-8-8-4 big boy.
Would it work if you didn't put any white glue on the poles and trees?
Where did you get those carrying cases for the engine/cars?
I was about to ask that question lol.
Any model railroad website should sell something like that, Walters, Atlas, and Bachman should build cases like that onw
+Nicholas Mulder one

thomas the tank engine is a great start into MRR!
"the layout looks pretty flat right now"
