One time I was asked out by a Swiss guy who told me to meet after two weeks at 4pm. I completely forgot about it cause we didn’t speak after that. Exactly two weeks later at 4pm he texted me telling me he was waiting for me....I was like ???
savethenacktschnecke Where I come from, people don’t take engagements that seriously. When I plan something with a friend we usually text each other the day before, the same morning one hour before, and also just before getting out of the house just in case 😆 people are very flaky and can cancel any minute if they feel like it. If someone asks me out 3 weeks before and I don’t hear from him the following days, I would assume he changed his mind, got bussy, forgot etc etc.
Tina Lockhart Have anyone thought why they always give an example Of white woman and black guy and not the opposite when come to dating in media ? In Scandinavia specially ? Think about it :)
This is definitely the most accurate depiction of Swiss-German culture I’ve ever seen. I’m Swiss-Italian, so it’s very different where I come from, but most of Switzerland is literally like this. Maybe slightly exaggerated in terms of multilingualism, especially among linguistic majorities, but in point for the most part.

Thank you for these videos. Best to be with someone you're comfortable with and leave the nationality next. My mom is Swiss and my dad was Puerto Rican. I can tell you the culture clash was tough. My parents stuck it out though, for 57 years before my dad passed away at 83 years old. Mom is still a happy Swiss at 95. Regardless of culture and differences, you have to make sacrifices to make a relationship work. Always or don't bother.
stormthrush37 it’s from January to March and the dates of the celebrations vary. All of Switzerland goes nuts with parades, drinking, dressing up in the craziest possible costumes.. there are big music groups and clubs and the Swiss prepare all year round for this. It’s like they are uptight and bottled up and once a year they let it all out 😂
I’m swiss and I have to say i wasn’t expecting something so accurate haha :) I don’t really agree with the expressiveness though: it’s not as extreme as in the US, but still quite common when you’re close with someone.
Key phrase here is "when you're close with someone." This video was showing how swiss people are very reserved when meeting someone the first time. Which is 100% true!
Well, until you're close with someone in Switzerland, it takes some time (much time). I think it might be hard for foreigners in Switzerland cause it seems you have to overcome a hard shell until you're friends with a Swiss person. There is the same stereotype for Germans but even they have trouble getting in touch with the Swiss (although it might help not to think about Switzerland like kind of "some part of Germany with funny sounding people" ;)

I avoid the Swiss German women. They are very rude, boring and extremely jealous. Moreover, racism is a big issue here in German speaking Switzerland. I'm a European lawyer and I cope with racism every single day...

Have lived in CH for a year. Love it there. These stereotypes are actually very accurate! Some old bat screamed at me in a restaurant (in Schwiizerdüütsch), when I showed a friend a humourous video in the language (at a low volume) . It was not offensive, and was made by Swiss people. I like how people there are very considerate of others, but she was yapping away with her friends at a louder volume. Different rules for different people I guess. I was told by a few Swiss people that only Swiss people could share those jokes with others. Well, “entschuldigung sehr”.
When I lived in Switzerland (5 years) I learned that Swiss people are always really early to something, polite, quiet, nice and that they usually keep to themselves and don’t really voluntarily do stuff for strangers, I don’t think many of those things are bad at all though.
@Jean juju it's not limiting we also like it calm in our environment and relaxing and if someone is noicy it's very annoying i can't concentrate my self.
@Jean juju for US its the other way around^^ its very selfisch to be noisy when others are around. YOU can do that in the clubs or at your home in the shower.
Ahhhhhh, I so loved the post. I think I loved learning about the culture as much as the personal interaction. I am sure the food and shopping there is great.
I think I am a Swiss girl at heart...more than any of the other videos of girls: Danish, Finnish, French or German...definitely SWISS is what most resonates with me. The language, career stability, planning, reserved nature, not being into small talk, being considerate of others...omg i need to live in Switzerland or Austria
Please do dating a Swiss man! I'm American and my husband is Swiss and I love our different outlooks on life. When he first came to America to see me I had NO idea about how important being right on time was to the Swiss. Luckily it's naturally important for me too I've always liked to be a little early to things so when I met him 2 minutes early for our first date he was so relieved and pleased he told me after we married it actually was a factor in him taking me seriously enough to continue dating in the beginning 😂😂😂 needless to say: thank God I wasn't late! Now I live in switzerland and have fully integrated timeliness even more so.
I'm from Serbia. I got a bit hooked on this videos, every day i watch a few but there's nothing about Serbia. You should come and visit, you'll have a good time:)
Fondue originated in the swiss mountains that were made inaccessible due to snowfall in the winter months. Villages would have to be self reliant, so they would use the remaining cheese (it had hardened considerably by this stage) cooked with wine and served in a communal pot that was kept warm (the fondue dish), bread would be dipped into it. All these foods are foods that require planning and a lengthy process, so it's no surprise that this lifestyle helped develop the stereotype of organisation and punctuality.
Wow that is interesting! Thank you for sharing that! I’m very interested since my family roots are in Switzerland. I love learning new things about it.
That's why Swiss know three or more languages. Compare that to French, Germans, English, Americans, Canadians, not to mention pretty much all other countries.
@@Emanuela9 I'm from Switzerland and I speak German and English and I forgot almost everything from French I once learned at school. There are plenty of countries where they speak three languages. The dutch people I met could understand German just as well as I understand french. There are plenty of people in India who speak multiple languages. There are plenty of African countries where they speak three languages or even more. - Everybody speaks at least one language. - A lot of people speak two languages (basically everybody who has a mother tongue and there is an official language which isn't the mother tongue). - And there are a lot of people who speak three languages (basically in every place where people either travel a lot or where there are several cultures coming together).
Even though I`m neither Swiss nor woman, sometimes I feel myself exactly like that SWISS Woman when I`m with my family or with people I don`t know. I don`t like when people touch me during conversation and\or getting too close and my father likes to sing everywhere and talks loudly especially in silent environments and gets lots of unwanted attention. I find it very irritating
yup that pretty much makes you swiss xD... Nah, but to be honest, it always depends on the individual. Yes, in general swiss people are very considerate but for example my dad also does dumb stuff in public and I try to hide the fact that I'm related.
When your dad is talking loudly, I am sure people do not mind, especially in the U.S. In Switzerland people would stare weirdly at your dad which would make the situation even more uncomfortable. I like places where people do not feel the need to judge others for being as they are. You are not the center of attention, neither should you make others the center of attention. In Spain, where I live, it is very common to talk loudly so it does not feel weird when others do it too or when you can just enjoy yourself in public without others judging you. Some people really need loosen up a bit.
i live in Switzerland and had many experiences with the women here including an 8 years relationship with one, and i can assure you this stereo type is the majority and its very robotic and soulless compared to my South American experience and can lead a cheerful man to a possible depression

I'm in a relationship with a swiss girl and she's nothing like that, she's crazy, funny, comprehensive, open minded, everything I was dreaming of. She has more balls even that me cuz she do wherever she wants, she has bigger dreams not the classic who only wants a job and money. Being with her is sort difficult but that's even an extra point I dont want nobody who can be easy. To resume she's perfect.
I’ve been living in Switzerland for some time now and honestly my observations are in line with the majority of the video. Of course each person to their own but the big picture was certainly captured in the video. I moved to Switzerland during high school and due to my profound love for nature (hiking and gardening) and my quiet/orderly characteristic, my Swiss friends have labeled me as “an old Swiss man” from day one. I have great respect for the Swiss culture and way of living. Though sometimes my Mediterranean soul makes me complain about certain aspects of life 😅 Bonjour à tous de Lausanne, Suisse! 🇨🇭❤️🇹🇷
@Bruno I don't care about other's money, neither am I helpless without someone else's money xD. And I doubt I thought of his money when I was 16 lol. It was purely about his looks and personality.
My Swiss Girlfriend got all kinds of Chocolate and Cheese, also they have a taste of Expensive things . I am African and we still working on the Planning/ Organization part. Very Accurate video
I dated a Swiss girl for a while, never thought about it at the time but in hindsight I guess the planning thing was there, though not so over the top like here. The one thing I learned was that my high German does not impress Swiss people very much. Also I learned that I have to use region-specific dialogue if I want to try and impress anyone with the few Swiss words I picked up. Speaking 3 or 4 languages daily was a hoot, though.
As a Swiss male i have to say that there are some really good pointers in this video like even tough i have lived abroad for a while now, i still hate loud people, small talk makes me throw up, people poking me make me cringe (although some girls just have the magic touch) and i tend to not trust people that are late. But I actually miss the way i can leave home and just show up at a friends house unannounced or doing things spontaneous. Being organized and having everything planned out are two entirely different things. Being organized is really avoiding a lot of the bullshit and small talk while dating (the word dating does not exist at least in "Schwitzer duutsch" it is more of a hanging out and see what happens) we tend to be very inquisitive and confront issues head on but in a polite manner. People in New York have everything planned but i find them often highly disorganized on a personal level and it seems plans are used to avoid any confrontation ergo there is a lot more bullshit (pardon my french). Another example of being organized: I love the fact that at home everything is so easy. You can call a plumper/carpenter or any craftsman they will show up give you an honest and educated assessment with your quote. They come on time complete their work efficiently without chatting you up trying to get more money while convincing you on how amazing they are. No they are amazing because their work speaks for itself. We are reserved because so much of communication is non verbal so paying attention for example to eye contact or using utensils properly are noticed (gross simplification). I met an American Woman recently that worked in Zurich for 10 years and she told me for years she thought she was doing a bad job at work because no one praised her or seemed to give her any feedback. Yes, we don't give out praises easily because doing a good job is expected but if she had done a bad job she would have felt it. But here again she almost certainly failed to notice non verbal clues and to read between the lines. As it is with many European cultures being obvious is considered tacky to the extend that we use subtleties to test each other and even make a sport of it. The biggest difference between Swiss and Americans is the transparency Swiss people deal with each other (absolutely no bullshit but rather understated). They are honest and will not commit themselves lightly but if the do they will fulfill their commitment even if it turns out later that it is highly inconvenient. In New York people will light heartily make promises but rarely keep them.
Sounds like it’s rather Swiss German. Cause here in French part of Switzerland it’s more like a mix of typical Swiss culture and classic French / European culture. It’s very interesting all these differences within the same country which is pretty small 😃
I wanted to add that even though I’m swiss , I’m very expressive , maybe a bit too much .But I’m also very shy with new people , and most of the time I don’t show that crazy part to anyone beside family and people I know for ages.
I've met one of the most bobbly person I know in Finland. There are stereotypes but they are nothing more than a tendency for the average person of that country. There is plenty of variety within each country.
When we visited Liechtenstein a long time ago, we took a car and also drove for a bit in Switzerland. I wasn't that experience driving on steep mountainous roads but it turned out it wasn't that hard or scary at all. Just keep your eyes on the road and you completely forgot that certain death was only a few meters away (and a few hundred meters below). The only thing was, the Swiss drive like Germans in the mountains! Like, they're Italians or something. But when we reached the flatter parts in between the mountainous areas, on the highways, I found that they were not speeding that much. But we Dutch drive like Germans on any flat part of road.
This is freakishly accurate... Two weeks ago i realised in the middle of a date that i had deadline that evening... Needless to say that we had to plan a new date and i spend that evening working...
Marina I would really like you to do a video on dating an Albanian Woman/Man I would really appreciate it, I really hope you enjoyed your trip to D.R. I was there 6 months ago
I dated a couple of Swiss girls years ago. I found them to be boring and a little to full of themselves at times. Their lack of spontaneity is their weak point and makes them predictable.
I think many Swiss habits concerning relationships (friendly or romantically) are strange for people from other countries. I personally love the friendliness of our foreign friends like Italians a lot more when it comes to family biz and stuff. I'm half Italian, so I know both sides. 😉 But when it comes to work and daily life, it definitely pays off that we're so structured, punctual and precise. We wouldn't be the country we are today without these qualities. 😊
This video is accurate, I’m from Geneva. Im also half Brazilian, and what I think is the worst thing here is the materialism. In Brasil people tends to be religious, happy... I’m seriously thinking to move after my studies.
I remember 4 swiss girls in my town in England on New Years Eve - They sort of stayed with the group of some guys id met. We all went back to the guys house and the 4 swiss girls were so fucking boring. They said literally nothing and went home after 30 minutes. This very, very accurate. I am a German living in Switzerland. And you don't date Swiss girls though as a foreigner. The expats tend to date each other here.

After watching this video I am thinking whether m I Swiss? Haha lots of similar characteristics of mine shown here. Especially about Expressiveness 😂 Nice video Marina. You are looking beautiful as always 😊❤️
I am from the german speaking switzerland and this video was totally generalizing! From the german speaking part of view you could be right... but from the french and italian speaking part of switzerland I can't agree... and I can speak of experiance!
I disagree. I haven't been much in Tessin but I lived in the Swiss-German part and in Romandie and it totally applies to both Swiss-German and Romands.
As a woman from Milan, Italy, I feel like I'm a mix between "You know you're dating an italian woman" and the swiss girl. I plan everything, not only for dates but also for family and friends. There's not space for spontaneity, unless it' holiday. I'm warmer though, and jealous (but the guy won't never know because I'm reserved). And yet, I get mad if someone mess up with italian food.
3:10 that switch hit home so hard ^^' Going from all-hot to overly concerned by schedule and back... yeah, am Swiss. ALSO YES ABOUT THE CHEESE. MORE CHEESE. MOAR. BUT WHERE DAMN IS THE CHOCOLATE ??!?!?? WE LITTERALLY SURVIVE ON IT. IT NEEDS TO BE MENTIONNED !!!! Else yes, hiking and sports in general, planning (although I'm one who's always late, but my dad is French, am sure it's from him), but no, Swiss people are not all reserved. Calm, quite often, and yes : QUIET (and clean), but there are very expressive people too and especially in the southern/western regions (speaking italian and french respectively). Else SO PROUD that you talked about the languages and even put it first. It always puzzles me when people don't at least understand a bit of a second language, ya know ^^
Oh well, I'm from the French part of Switzerland and as you can see I have some portuguese DNA too, The cheese part is quite true for me, I'm not organized at all but I love to know what I'm doing in advance and with who, otherwise I'm stressed out. I very outgoing and crazy for the night life ! I loovvee to party and sometimes I'm very loud, bit sometimes I'm bothered by loud people I guess it depends of the days 😪 Pretty cool when you watch a video like this to know a little more of the stereotypes
My impression... If this is accurate like many people wrote, I think Swiss girls are definitely not my type :-(. "De gustibus non disputandum est" - no need to fight about personal taste :-)
Legit in many ways, though I do have to say I love being spontaneous and I'm always late (whoops)... But it's very true that a lot of people from abroad tend to speak a lot louder than we do and on trains and in restaurants people prefer to keep it quiet, which is mostly due to people commuting to work and wanting to get work done on their way. It also depends on the person wether they enjoy the upfrontness and directness of people from different countries. A lot of swiss people (especially younger ones) find it very refreshing. (also she is so organised but forgets a deadline? Some swiss people get things done weeks in advance so they don't have to do it last minute haha)
Of all woman Stereotypes, this one was the most HILARIOUS 😂😂😂. I am a Swiss descendant born in America, and I am very similar to them in personality. I feel like I’ve found my people. I’ve been trying to learn Swiss German so I can speak it when I go back. The only problem is, I’m not usually on time, and I’m not very organized. I wonder how much of that has to do with the environment you grow up in, though.
I as a portuguese descendant lived many years in South America and Latinos are neither my kind of people. But I guess that's what makes multiculturalism interesting.
Im a half mongolian half chinese guy living in America. I’ve seen people getting offended or flattered for different reasons i started to think these human made rules we call culture are just baggages. My most pleasant experience with Girls and other people started when i stopped holding tightly to whatever i thought was important and just been adaptive. As long as her intent is compassionate i can careless if she talks in a certain way or chew loudly at the dinner table.
I'd like to mention there's a bit of mixed messages here. Swiss women plan everything in advance but interrupts a date because she has to work? Not much planning there, isn't it? Also, if your date cuts the date short because they have work, they might not be that much into you.
You know you are dating a Swiss women when the first question she asks is : "What is your work?". I usually answer "Hausabwart bei der UBS" (Janitor at UBS Bank), and I answer that because I like bars and I go to Switzerland a lot, but I hang around in bars to meet Expat-girls so when the Swiss come with their repetitive question I shove em off like that fast. Another reason I say this is because if I list my ex-contractor jobs as a freelance pilot and security analyst/team organizer, they don't get it anyway. Yes I know, lots of free time in hotels thus I'm commenting here!
im swiss-italian and this is very accurate! maybe a bit exaggerated, but i understand its for comedy purposes. only thing im missing is the our obsession with chocolate. also a bit more weight on the 7.29am part, because most swiss people absolutely HATE when someone is late and cant tell us sooner, that theyre not here on time
So many idiots who comment on this channels content. These are generalizations and meant to give just a little insight and have a laugh about it. Take it for what it is... its humour!
“They’ve got some great cheese.” Excuse me ? We Swiss have the BEST cheese in the world (at least for hard-crusted cheese). Also, 5:18 : AND SKI ! Ski is very important for many Swiss.
Severina L. Spinelluccio thanks for the reply. But how to break the ice? Also don’t get me wrong but is there a preference when Swiss people decide to whom they will open up?
I’m Swiss woman and I will answer you. It depends from the region she’s from we literally have 3 different types in one country. Italian side they are more like Italians French more like French German side (which most is think to be the real Switzerland 😆) well there is the more cold since into the German sides the variation of cities. You will be fine if you are polite and honest and respecting the distance until trusts are build than the conversations can get more closes. Just don’t be a macho way because we Swiss woman are already the strong woman we have good career and mentally build (not lill girl like). You must be a build life man with ahead secure life

I don’t really agree with the expressiveness though: it’s not as extreme as in the US, but still quite common when you’re close with someone.

Hello 👋 so true
Really miss living in Switzerland!! Thanks for the video :D
You know you are dating a Swiss woman when she helps you evade your taxes at Davos ;)
😀😁
@Jean juju there is one exception for beeing noice and loud. Festivals :D
@Jean juju it's not limiting we also like it calm in our environment and relaxing and if someone is noicy it's very annoying i can't concentrate my self.

" Swiss tend to learn "... We HAVE to learn, there's a difference there 😂
That's why Swiss know three or more languages. Compare that to French, Germans, English, Americans, Canadians, not to mention pretty much all other countries.
@@Emanuela9 Philippines: *AM I A JOKE TO YOU?*
You're a former teacher?

I’ve been living in Switzerland for some time now and honestly my observations are in line with the majority of the video. Of course each person to their own but the big picture was certainly captured in the video. I moved to Switzerland during high school and due to my profound love for nature (hiking and gardening) and my quiet/orderly characteristic, my Swiss friends have labeled me as “an old Swiss man” from day one. Yup.
I'm swiss.
But I still have some of my italian and peruvian sides, thank gods and parents.
Another example of being organized:
I love the fact that at home everything is so easy.

I totally agree!

Calm, quite often, and yes : QUIET (and clean), but there are very expressive people too and especially in the southern/western regions (speaking italian and french respectively).

I'd like to mention there's a bit of mixed messages here. Swiss women plan everything in advance but interrupts a date because she has to work? Not much planning there, isn't it? Also, if your date cuts the date short because they have work, they might not be that much into you.
The Swiss women are very interesting. Loved the video.
