Paul, this lady should become a public speaker for all Filipina, as she can start the mindset as to the potential they can be. Instead of trying to treat the Foreigner, as an ATM, this Lady, took a loan from her Foreign Boyfriend, and turned it into a life that she can still be successful on her own, and a great Lady to cherish as a Wife. A great interview. 😊

Every time I see an incredible woman like this, I ask myself "What would you give to have an opportunity to find a companion like this?"

That was another great interview, Paul! This woman really stands out from all the Filipina be-an-ATM-machine-to-my-entire-family girls! She has spark, passion, drive, ... This woman can make it without a man. There should be more of those in the Philippines. She reminds me of a Belgian business women I once interviewed as a reporter. She also started with a small beauty parlor, then specialised in artificial fingernails and became the CEO of an international corporation active in that field. She is now retired and she and her husband are living in Greece, where they were able to build a beautiful villa. I haven't seen her for a long time, but we keep in touch on FB and if Vhie wants to pick her brains, I'm quite willing to introduce them.

I have a hunch that the reason women in the west are feminists is because their men demand they earn.
Here in the Philippines, we want to earn because we want to contribute to our family. To feed our family and help our relatives too.
A thing that makes it nice is because our men never demand we be "stable" or be a "strong, independent woman"
When no one demands it from you, you want to do it more. Out of love.
This is one thing i like about our men. They just provide. As a default.

Fun Interview Paul !! I have found most Filipinas are passionate about something however they lack the money and proper direction to pursue their passion. I also believe a persons character has a lot to do with their success later on. I met my Filipina when she was 34 and she is 37 now. She said she has also had very bad experiences with Filipino men and would only date foreigners. In fact her daughter (our daughter now) never met her biological father. He took off half way thru the pregnancy. These things happen in other countries as well but it seeks to impact filipinas much deeper than some other places. As a foreigner we need to be more careful of what we say and do with filipinas with that history as emotions can be amplified quickly. My Filipina is all the beauty queen I could ever want in my life and she raised a great kid !!

"could involve investing in a local business"
@RetireandGo Investing in what way? Do you mean starting your own business or starting a business for somebody else? Because it is never a good idea for a foreigner to run a business in the Philippines that requires direct contact with the Filipino public.

    • @lawler-ex-sfodd
      @lawler-ex-sfodd Рік тому +1

@@RetireandGo I'd invest in anything to do with water purification systems and hygiene related companies. Also, investing in tourist resorts is a good idea as it caters to the foreigner and similar status Filipinos. Different type of customers.
Investing in a restaurant is ok. However, running a restaurant yourself, as a foreigner, is not a good idea. You don't want to deal with the regular Filipino public or be the one to manage employees, which includes "firing" them.. That and competing with other local businesses could cost you literally your life, prison, or deportation, if you are lucky.
Even if you want to help the Filipinos, there are some laws against that. Imagine that. I personally would leave it alone and come to the Philippines to enjoy the place and privately help those in need, if you can afford it. The Philippines is a different monster and you will literally have to walk on eggshells to not find yourself murdered, in prison or deported, if a conflict arises with the locals.
Remember, everything is fine and dandy in the Philippines until it isn't.
      Lawler

Great vid Paul and Vhie. Thanks so much.
I agree that it's so important to encourage and support your woman (or man) to be all they can be. Once she is self assured and independent, if she still wants to stay with you, it really is because she loves you, not just because she's dependent upon you. Sounds like a good thing to me.
One thing I was thinking about - I always hear about the comparisons between Filipinos and western men; that Filipinos are less dependable, less honest, always playing the field and prefer partying to building a healthy, successful relationship.
Whereas, a Filipina sees a westerner, or a foreigner as much more serious about finding and sustaining a good relationship, values her more, is more mature, is more honest and sincere about his feelings for her, and about the relationship.
It occurs to me that the comparison may not be fair. The Filipinos she may have had experience with are much more likely to be her age ; whereas the foreigner is usually older, more mature, and even more; a relationship was so important to him that he got organized, and went to a different country to look for it. That's not a fair comparison with a young Filipino.
A more realistic comparison would be a young (her age) Filipino and a foreigner of the same age. They don't get to meet many young western men I would imagine, but if they did, I think they might find that young western men are just as immature, selfish, and directionless as young Filipinos.
So, I'd like to hear questions about valid comparisons. Has she ever dated a Filipino in his 50s or 60s? What were they like? And how did they compare to a westerner of the same age?
Or, have they dated a westerner that was her age? What were they like, compared to a Filipino of the same age?

Another Great interview. 6 out of 10 would prefer a foreigner. Interesting. I like Michael’s and V’s vulnerability in the previous interview. The message is don’t give money away. It sends the wrong message and potentially attracts the wrong type or woman. I prefer a less busy partner. In US I dated one woman like V many years ago. It didn’t work because she’s never home, always ambitiously making more business, and stressed with the lifestyle of being a business owner. I prefer a more available partner that would be compatible with the time I have. Outside interests and friends are great.

Great interview Paul. Vhie is one smart lady. She has worked hard and made something of herself even though she started out with nothing. It just goes to show if you really want something and work hard you can achieve your dreams. She also gave a lot of good advice. Her partner should be very proud of her.

Filipinas who aren't already middle-class, even if they are educated and otherwise upwardly mobile, face a bit of a dilemma. The first is that (and this is assuming that she's one of the "good ones", and not a golddigger) she has to be convinced that the wolf isn't at the door anymore. Even if she isn't flush with cash at the moment, she's not going to starve. The younger she is, the more she needs to be nudged into thinking in terms of longer time frames for expectations. Bootstrapping is already in the DNA of a Filipina. Their problem is that they are used to peddling on the proverbial bicycle of life so hard that they forget to - or may not even know how to - change gears. (If that makes any sense.) The second part of the dilemma is that a Filipina, even is she is from a good family, is going to feel immense pressure to spread some of her "good luck" around. She may not see you as an ATM, but by golly there will be some at least within her extended family who will constantly bully her to pay their rent. It's just part of the landscape, and she will adapt as you point it out as it happens. But the Filipina/foreigner dynamic works so well because for foreigners, we feel lucky just to have somebody who appreciates us and affords us respect, while the Filipina is often grateful for the outside perspective, the patience, having somebody who sees beyond a provincial future for her, allowing her independence, and having the security of being with a man without a Peter Pan syndrome...Great interview, Paul and Vhie!...

Great video!!! I deleted the rest of my comment that wasn't dirty or disrespectful at all that isn't me. I just can't wait to visit there again in late Nov. till early Jan. sp I can confirm for sure that I want to move there in 2024 and spend the rest of my life there in the Philippines and to try to decide where I want to start my life there . Im a small town country boy (man) LOL and I don't think I will want to live permanently in a city but probably not very far from a small or major city but Im going to try to keep an open mind .The lady today is as beautiful as the teenage guest that you and Baby Mae have on your videos it is amazing how some ladies there look so young.

Dedication & PASSION Two things that will get you ahead in life. When the world knocks you down. You have to have Passion & Dedication to get up Again. It's Not the person who had it easy but the person who Refuses to be beaten.

This is what a micro loan(~$650) can do for someone who is motivated to achieve their goals. If a person is motivated, they can achieve almost anything. A micro loan of a non-motivated person is like throwing the money away. Finding the right person would be the key to making something better for them and their family.
