Much needed info. As an Iraqi War vet who writes screenplays from a small town, I appreciate this.
Did Chuck actually accept your apology? I'd apologise again just to make sure - you don't want that shit to fester!
Trust me this guy did more than just send emails. If you want your script to get made you have to do more than just ask someone for permission. Cold queries are not the only way to get your screenplay made into a film. Either learn how to produce your screenplay into a film yourself or pay a producer to do it for you. Start small with a promotional video like one scene from your screenplay. If you don't want to direct it yourself then hire people to do this for you. This is all so much cheaper than spending money entering contests or taking classes. I see so many screenwriters waste money on hope mills it's just sad. Even if you can get through to someone with a query they're going to ask you what kind of traction you have so far. If you haven't even made any kind of advertising materials you will always look amateur.
Great video on a unique topic, Scriptfella! I think that, especially with the internet, you now have access to find so many more people outside of Hollywood who are willing to produce your script or even reach those who are in Hollywood. Hollywood is great, but the film industry is expanding almost everywhere, particularly where I am in England. Best to persist with what is easiest to get into for you and what is realistic.
I totally concur . Happy hunting.
That's very encouraging. Thank you for that info. Very helpful.
In a good year I might be able to work up the extroverted energy to mass query maybe every four months. The research, cross-indexing, spreadsheet tracking, customizing letters, etc is a full month's work. Wish I could delegate all that so I can keep writing.
I've been advised NOT to include a logline in a query letter unless the person you're contacting requests it. If you send a logline to someone not currently accepting submissions they may fear legal repercussions, you've started your relationship with that person on the wrong foot.
Why would they fear legal repercussions?
@@beatrizbecker3728 It's unsolicited materials. A litigious individual could take advantage of that situation. Anyways that's how a producer friend explained it to me.
This is fantastic! Chuck’s a great resource!
Isn't he just?
Love this! Thank you for this video - I have only been following this method and received numerous script requests - yet to hit my target - but I'll keep quering.
Brilliant! Thanks for the valuable advice, really appreciated.
Appreciate your support, Fiona.
This was so informative. Thanks
I love your videos. One day I hope to include them in how I made it in the film industry.
Boomer, I'll drink a flagon of Heineken Continental Strength Lager to that.
Amazing content-just found your channel and subscribed!! Thanks for making these videos!!
Thanks for the sub Julia and welcome to Scriptfella.
Thanks for the video, to you and Thanks to Chuck!
Never a second wasted in your videos!
Brilliant video
Thank you for this - an essential video!
incredibly useful!
Awesome work
Great advice again
This is what I've been waiting to see.
Rashid, I'm pleased to hear that. If there are any other screenwriting topics you'd like me to cover, please fire away.
I think I just found my new favourite UA-cam channel
Cheers Moses
Thank you
I needed this! I had an online appointment set with a big LA producer today today (I'm from UK). He snubbed me 3 fucking times in 2 days. So close yet so fucking far.
P.S. Your channel's a fucking beaut
Thanks Zayn. When producers cancel or reschedule meetings at the last minute it can be infuriating - and feel like they're disrespecting your time. Try and keep your powder dry and smile through the frustration. It is VERY common especially when you come to LA to do the water bottle tour meetings.
@@Scriptfella When cancellations or postponements occur, what kind of follow up is effective, if any?
@@lyricarol I suggest you give them a day, and then ideally rebook. If they have an assistant, then they are usually your first point of call when you need to reschedule a meeting.
Great video, Dominic. Time to save my email drafts till Tuesday-Thursday
Thanks Ben, good to see you around these parts again.
@@Scriptfella I’m always lurking, mostly taking tips and working on scripts. You’ve been killing it lately 👍🏻
Thanks!!
What I learned is that a lot of migrants are coming over here to America because they say and their own country they can't get this type of help in their owln country that they get in the United States. But I am an American and an American citizen, but I noticed that in my own country America I couldn't sell my script or get my movie made. I was ignored by Hollywood film industry, so I contacted Mexico and noticed how they were willing to help me and work with me. So yeah sometimes you just have to step out of your comfort zone. Now when my own American country and people were ignoring me they didn't even know that my script was a Latino Mexican story neither did Mexico film industry knew they both didn't know, but I told the Mexican film industry and they were very proud of me.
Writing a movie that's based around "2001: A Space Oddesy" meets "The Fountain." It will depict some of the most salient occurences in the human experience across time, from 100,000 years ago up to the present. major topics are love, innovation, sorrow/loss, pain, preparation of food, etm. would this be better for a sundance film festival, or a different production system? It would require heavy CGI.
Thanks for these awesome and informative videos! I'll make sure to thank you in my Oscar acceptance speech 😅
Thank U!!!
Good vid!! Tho I wonder if Hollywood buy specs during holiday season? I mean I know most are closed but....
Chuck seems like a down to earth guy. Any links to read his published works?
I blind queried Brad Pitt's prod company and got in, so...never say never. Also blind queried ICM, and am now WGA.
Can you explain as much as you want how you went about that process?
this applies to me living way south of USA. Querying agents and mangers minus imbd got me nada. Haven't queries a long time but have stories lined up to do and pitch.
You will NEVER stop telling yourself number 11. I promise.
Copy that, Nic.
Good question I’m starting working on a cop romance comedy for my first screenwriting movie should I lawyer up in case my project gets stolen for example without my rights
Please am in Africa , Cameroon. It’s possible for me to sell my film in Hollywood while been in Cameroon?
Yes. Can write the script in Texas even whoever wants to buy my screenplays from Hollywood to North Pole and South Pole😂
Was he a sniper or a drone pilot? I kid. I kid. Good stuff.

I would not want to be on the wrong end of Chuck's gun!
Exactly, World Chase Tag - what Charles De Vilmorin said
Do I need agent to pitch my script For big studio.
Can I just get chucks email so I can bypass searching for Producers in Hollywood? I mean, he already has contacts and I want to play more golf...It's a win win!!
I got blacklisted before I got started. 😢
How?
I know several writers in L.A. rooms all day long that live across the country. Covid and the advent of Zoom has all but erased the borders
Hi I have a true story of my sad life.
The fact that some bs youtubers with terrible adivice have hunderds of thousands of subs, while you. Who gives real hard advice has only a few truly bafels me.
Mate, thank you for your support - I did ruminate on my relatively low key subscriber count for awhile. Then I realised - the writers and filmmakers who get my channel, GET IT. And that's all that matters.
@@Scriptfella Mate I'm the one who should be thanking you for showing the truth. It's going to be hard to break into the business but at least I know its possible and that's all I need. Thank you
So, that's why all of these migrants are coming here to America because they can't get that there in their own country and as an American citizen and American I don't speak any Spanish, but tell Latino stories and can't make it as a producer and writer and my own American country but can make it in a foreign country like Mexico.
I see Chuck took down the Trump-Pence bumper sticker from his filing cabinet.
These videos are extremely helpful, especially because no one else tells us this stuff, but why do you have to put in all those movie clips? They are very distracting and not at all used in a clever way, plus we can't share your videos because they are annoying to the people we send them to. Please stop.
Hi Susan, thanks for your feedback. I use movie clips to illustrate my content and add a sense of visceral energy. But I appreciate this format may not be everyone’s cup of tea.
@@Scriptfella Of course Susan is entitled to her feelings about the movie clips, but I entirely disagree with her. Please don't stop :)
Or you could turn the screen away from you and just listen?
My favorite part of this video is that this dude no longer has a Trump sticker behind him.
Which dude?
