Charter Fishing UK - Fishing with Bite Adventures in Penzance | The Fish Locker

- Sea fishing in the UK is a very popular tradition and activity. With charter boats in almost every port around the UK it is a brilliant way for people to get sea fishing from a boat. With the right skipper and the right boat it can also be a wonderful introduction to deep sea fishing and a way to learn. Here my friends and I fishing with arguably the best skipper in the West of Cornwall, Robin Chapman on his boat Bite adventures. We fish several locations throughout the day and catch some amazing fish.

I've always used pink/white spoons, and spinners
Pink lures have always done well for me.
John, haven't watched your vids in months, but missed them so I came back! You're an excellent teacher and UA-camr! 🎉
Welcome back. You’ve got some cracking vids to catch up on. 👍🏻
What a beautiful bream fish of the day ❤
Absolute stunner of a fish.
Awesome again John some nice fish, have watched the video regarding great whites in British waters apparently thay have been sighted, found it interesting. Happy catching from AUSTRALIA Nick
All nonsense Nick. Idiots and dramatic journalists.
@@TheFishLocker The nearest confirmed catches of great whites have been in the Mediterranean, but have become rarer. Although the cold waters around the UK should be no deterrent to them. I used to go surfing in Southern Tasmania when I was teenager and the water was so cold I used to come out with purple legs! What I didn't realise until some years later was that there was a seal colony not too far away and great white sharks used to cruise around predating on any unwary seal!
I only did fishing in Sweden and Norway, but now I really feel to try England! So many interesting species u have there! Great vid👍
Get with the right skipper and there really are some wondeful fish to catch. 😊👍🏻
Sitting on my narrowboat with a beer on a Sunday evening watching Fishlocker. What's better than that? 👍
Grilled launce..
Happy days.
Only actually fishing
@@zone7permaculture587 . Yep. You got it 👍
Good lad! Well done nowt betta I rekon
Great video again John, a very friendly and skilled charter and what a gorgeous day too!
Thank you Philip, we had a stunner of a day. 👍🏻
Oh John! I have commented before about your channel,I am not a fisherman but my brother was an avid beach and boat Fisher, I loved watching this video, as it brought back so many memories, my brother Graham won the 1st catch and relturn prize for a Thornback Ray,with 'Sea Angler' and it was caught at Hinkley(Hinckley point) Somerset. And the Ray catching just brought it all back, love your channel and the knowledge it provides. I only have You Tube and if their was a way I would happily share his moment of pleasure with you.
Thankyou for just, doing what you do and being who you are❤❤
I have said from the very beginning that of our videos help folks in any way then I feel they are worth making. I am glad that this one brought back happy memories for you my friend and have a great day.
Great video as always
I will be down at the beginning of September so will be giving them a call to sort a trip out😊😊
Good luck for good weather mate.
I'm planning a fishing trip down to Perranuthnoe in a few weeks, I'd just been looking online what people had been picking up off the beach, the first post was a bloke who'd done fairly well and also had a good session on a charter with bite adventures. I look left and what is the first video that pops up on my other monitor? I might need to book a trip!
Speak to Chippy. He had a cancellation list incase of dropouts you can maybe jump on.
What’s the name of the fish at 24:20? Nice looking fish.
I'd like to know as well.
The silver and pink one? A Couche Bream.
@@TheFishLocker Thank You!
Evening John quality video as always 😎, I do lots of wreck fishing and inshore bits and bobs and was always told to just wind the fish in and not pump the rod up and down as it can cause lost fish ! What are your thoughts on that ?
That’s not correct. Big fish you cannot just wind them in.
another one of your brilliant videos john top man
Thank you very much. 😊🎣
Being an American, the most interesting part was trying to understand what you all were saying.
🤣🤣🤣
Haha, I don't know about an American, but Google thinks they're catching sandals and making bites from them. Then they somehow drag it on the bottom. So much for dear ol' AI 😂😂
Firstly thanks both yourself John, and the Skipper, great vid. It is apparent to me that even an experienced angler with their own boat can benefit from a trip on a local charter boat, especially in a new area. Did you know John, it's virtually impossible to land a Dogfish off the North East coast, apparently they have all migrated to Cornwall. lol.
That sounds like a challenge. I think I could manage it!! 🤣😉
Back here in Aus, you can bring your own gear, but if you pay for a spot on the boat its the same price, boat provides the gear for you. A lot of charters here now are catch and release, but they are serious sports fish that stretch you and your gear to the limits, big samson fish, Amber Jacks. fast growers like Tuna, Mahi Mahi are not as heavily limited.
Here there is a rental price on boat owned tackle just to cover losses and damage.
What a great skipper! I enjoy charters where you get to learn as you go, for the first few years sea angling I always went with the same skipper which really helped my confidence
Good for you and good on him. 👍🏻
Your charter was much less chaotic than the one I've been on. Went out for albacore, and the boat was packed (10-15 people), and we stood shoulder to shoulder, and side stepped around the back of the boat as we reeled in our catches. My favorite part was the ride back. It looks much more fun with a small group.
That’s something I learned a long time back. I won’t ever go on a charter as an individual filling a space. I’ve had too many trips ruined that way.
It's all an illusion... ha ha! Interesting character to fish with I reckon!...for the banter...nice action on those rods.w with those reels.... inspiring...I reckon he would be a dab hand at the mullet if he applied himself...do not recognise that 3rd last fish..maybe a sign of the Mediterranean moving north..
The Couche bream have been caught here in Cornwall for 20 odd years but are definitely a fish I would be happy to see stay.
Some of my family live in Cornwall. I’m going to take my nephew out on a charter boat in a year or 2, when he’s a bit bigger. I bought him a rod last year and he caught a little wrasse. He was so excited 😝 Unfortunately, his dad isn’t an angler, so it’s up to me to teach him.
Good on you mate.
A really great advertisement for charter boat fishing. It was good to see that the skipper didn't fish and concentrated on helping his clients. Way back when I did a bit of this type of fishing, off Yarmouth with various skippers they all always fished themselves and sold their catch to local fishmongers leaving the paying customers to get on with it as best they could. Times have changed, were any fish kept for the table? Nice to see you got a dogfish.
That’s a sign of a good skipper. Their attention and effort is 100% dedicated to their anglers. Not their own fishing. 👍🏻
Boat booked for the 20th of August, having to wait a bit longer than i would have liked but can't wait, crackin video, see you in the next one John
Good luck mate. 👍🏻
Was out of christchurch last weekend and had gilthead bream.and door sole ........first gilthead I've ever scene
Stunning fish aren’t they. 👍🏻
That dogfish you keep catching is the same one. I can tell by its spots. It follows you around 😝
He’s a greedy sod if that’s the case
That looked like a lot of fun 😊
Brilliant way to spend a summer's day on a nice big boat and a great skipper 👍
That bream was a stunner, was it a gilthead bream John ?
Thanks for filming this John because i know it means you don't get to fish as much as the others 👍
Top man John
Jason
Now then Jason, this was a couche bream and yes sadly it did mean I didn’t get to fish as much but if the videos help to get folks fishing then it’s a sacrifice worth making.
You're in my home town. I'm the dog fish king 😂 I catch more of them than any other species .
Haha. I think I may challenge that title. 🤣
''Dogfish, course it was'' I'm sure I'm not the only one who laughed out loud. That could so easily have been me.
I just cannot get away from them. 🤣
Hi John, What was that 6-12 rod your mate was using as it looked very good (I heard the 6-12 bit but didn't make out the rest - I've not got the best hearing)? Great video as always - many thanks!
Send me a PM to the Fishlocker Fb page mate. I’ll send you the full details.
Hi john you ok , it looked good seeing the fish come up from the depths in that clear water. What a stunning bream. All the best from GRIMSBY.
Thank you Carl. Have a great day bud.
Please excuse my ignorance but, what type of bream was that?
Couche Bream
Heh. Adam. I`m sure you`ll be watching this. If you like your rays go the canaries for a holiday. You can get them off the beach or hire boat to 150lb+ .
Great vid John....
He’s seen our videos from the canaries. 👍🏻
Brilliant as always. Been on a few charters myself over the years (cobles out of Brid as a kid, Dave Nuth on Theseus out of Jersey, both many times and Marcus of Bad Intentions out of Savannah). The amount of knowledge these guys have is phenomenal and it's always a joy to go out with them. If I ever get the chance I will definitely give Robin's outfit a try.
He is definitely worth looking up if you are in the area.
Great day in the life of charter fishing. Always good to go out on a boat that is so experienced and is willing to pass on important information on catching different species on different marks and to explain to the novice the do's and don'ts. You know it is good when everyone is smiling when they return with new PB's. That's what you call a complete fishing outfit. All the best to you, the skipper, and all who enjoyed the day with you. Thanks for taking us along John.
It is our pleasure mate. Have a good one bud. 👍🏻
If you have a space next time your in Minehead let me know would love to join you
Speak to Mikey and get your name on his reserve list 😉
Great Video, amazing the difference a few miles makes! What type of Bream was that? It looked a fair old chunk?😊
It was a Couch Bream. 👍🏻🎣
I've been quite a new watcher, but i've been enjoying the uploads so far! There's clearly more to fishing than one might think
It’s as simple or as complex as you wish to make it. 😊🎣
You had so much fun John! Great video as always 👍 I remember when I was a kid they used to put up turbot fisheries in our main waterway (which is the now-too-busy Istanbul strait). We gnawed on a lot of turbot buttons in our time. Sigh! Now my kid doesn't even know about turbot. I'm happy for you and your families that you still can catch all these great fishes 😃
I’m my local area they are a rare capture but there are still locations where you can find the odd one or two.
Coffee is my nemesis. Wasted more than I've drank out fishing due to the fish deciding to bite right when I pour one...
🤣🤣🤣
Another excellent video John, Chippy is one of the best skippers in the uk, constantly working to put anglers on the fish. Always lots of banter too!
His experience level is also top notch. Great skipper and great angler too.
But where are the Pirates?
Drinking run somewhere. 🤣
What a brilliant vid, John. So informative and entertaining, I almost felt that I was there and loved the vibe on the boat. Such a clean and tidy charter boat and such a knowledgeable and understanding skipper. The ginger lad was absolutely loving life mind! Big smile on my face here, thanks again!
Just a bunch of lads sharing what they love doing. What could be better? 😊👍🏻
To anyone who's first time on charter boat you will be helped and never belittled give it a go trust me 👍
Choosing the right charter boat and skipper is very important for the first time. As it can either hook you or put you off. 👍🏻
@@TheFishLocker you've got a good task going around the UK, showing what's available and what to look out for,
I was a bit quick with last message sorry, there are good and not so good charters, cheers John👍
@@Phil144gbp - I have fished with some great skippers and some not so great ones. Sometimes it’s just a personality clash.
who cares if you know the least, its about having fun. Good for charters to know your experience so they can maximise the enjoyment factor for you. Taken friends on charters and they are always surprised with the fact that A. charter bait your lines. B. they take the fish of when caught and rebait. C. While taking in the beautiful time bragging who got the best fish while heading back, they fillet your fish and give you your share while hopping off the ship. Oh man I wanna go on a charter now, except I'm in Dunedin New Zealand and its winter. P.S I charter because I'm the worst fisherman ever, I'm a spearo (this means I'm impatient and so 'jump' in to take a look, and go hunt them.)
Not many charter boats in the U.K. will do all that for you as now most skippers work solo with no decky.
Great video John wow his boat was massive guess the skipper must be making up for something ehh ha ha 😂
Brilliant fishing platform and it’s actually like a tardis. Loads of working space for not the biggest boat. 🤣
@@TheFishLocker If that was a Cheetah catamaran they only go up to 11 metres length.
Great day out fishing
👍👍👍😜🏴🦕🦄😁🤞✌️
Yes sir.
Am female do not fish but i love your videos. Always enjoy the catch and cook in Jims kitchen. Best wishes from Scotland.
There is nothing that says ladies cannot fish. My wife and daughter enjoy fishing too.
Is your friend based in penzance john . Happy Anniversary to you and Hannah 🎊💐
Yes mate.
Fantastic video Your opening comments summed me up to a T
I’d love to boat fish but I’ve never done so and I’d worry about knowing what to do
This has given me the confidence to check out my local charters here in Seaham and give it a go 🎣
Speak to the skippers and also speak to people who have been out with them. 👍🏻
Great days fishing John. Another great video thanks mate, much appreciated!🐟🐟🐟🐟
My pleasure Graham. 👍🏻
Very much enjoy your videos. Hope you enjoyed your trips to the US and our fishing experience.
I notice that not a lot of fish are kept. I asked a friend of mine from the UK that normally fishes for Pike, Zander and Perch in freshwater if keeping fish is common. He said the UK has a lot of catch and release in freshwater.
Is Saltwater the same? What are the size and bag limits like for your marine species?
Freshwater is more catch and release than salt. My personal feeling is that unless it’s a special fish to me. Like my son likes Gurnard, and my wife and father in law love Plaice. Etc. if it will go back and survive. I put it back.
@TheFishLocker As I have gotten older and the aftermath of fishing is a little more tiring lol I generally put back all but what I'm going to eat at that meal.
Appreciate your videos and look forward to more. You should try some Wahoo high speed trolling and Sails up in Northeastern FL next trip. I have a friend who does charters. Great guy and a good captain.
Lovely Day, good fishing with some mates ...what else ?!
Just a group of lads having fun doing what they enjoy. 👍🏻
Thank you so much, John, you can't beat good camaraderie on a fishing boat, regards to the family, and greetings from a sweltering Cyprus. 🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟
Good fun and just the right amount of banter. 😉
Thus video has got me really excited next week I'm off out on a charter boat for tope. I'm well excited. Hopefully I'll hook into a couple. Great video as always John all the best to you and tight lines 🎣🎣🎣
Good luck mate. 👍🏻🎣
@@TheFishLocker thanks bro 🎣🎣🎣
The great certainties of life....taxes,death and john catching dog fish
Amen!
Fantastic video John. Is bite adventures a catamaran. 👍👍
Yes. Twin hull.
The sea looks so healthy, is there hope? Here on the dutch shore its seems almost lifeless.
Commerical fishing has a lot to answer for.
another good one, cracking boat, will you be trying that rig with the slivers of fish on?
I shall.
What species of fish was that one caught nearbthe end? I don't recognise it 🤔
Couche bream.
What was the fish at 24 mins, everyone was excited to see it but didn’t hear anyone say what it was 🤣
It’s a Couch bream.
Another great vid, still hoping you come to the channel islands one day 😂
Never say never.
Why oh why does everyone speak so darn quickly? It seems to be similar to the so called "speed freaks" in the1960s and if any presenter,no mater how lucid and informative the content I am unable to grasp the full meaning unless I view again!
We aren’t speaking quickly. This is the normal pace at which people speak.
@@TheFishLocker What people?
Someone always has to be the Dogfish whisperer
It’s usually me!! 🤣
What kind of fish is that red Blue and silver one? Looks like its from down south?
It is from down south, we're in Cornwall.
@@TheFishLocker sorry I meant down south like spain and portugal? What type of fish is it?
@@danielclark8094 couch bream. 👍🏻
I really like charter boats. There are so many levels of charters. I was on a couple where you just had to show up. They had the polls, bait, food and fixed your fish and put it on ice. Also been on some that you bring everything. Price wise the best. I never had a bad day out on the water.
I agree, I have been on all kinds too. Great fun.
Selamat dengan hasil yg besar, semoga slalu seperti ini
Thank you.
@@TheFishLocker 👍
Great video, thanks. I'm the complete novice here. It's less daunting to know that on charter boat trips, the crew will share their knowledge and expertise and unhook the many different species you may catch. The skipper didn't fish himself but made sure everyone was safe and having a lovely day. Thanks again.
That’s what a proper skipper is like mate. They don’t fish, their attention is devoted to helping their customers catch fish. Every fish a skipper catches is a fish a customer cannot catch.
Greetings John, Full watch.
Thank you Michael and have a great day my friend. 👍🏻
What was the fish at 24:30 in the video? Didn't know we got fish like that in British waters.
The pink and silver one was a Couch bream.
We're coming down to Cornwall from the lake district for our annual pilgrimage.
Maybe im being a clampet but i can t seem to find the link to your mans charter. Were staying not to far from Penzance and would love a chance to get out there again. We dont get the same stamp of fish in the Solway Firth up our neck of the woods so i always try to make the best of it when were back in gods country.
It’s in the description of the video Gary. It links to his website.
@TheFishLocker ahh yes... turns out I am a clampet. Cheers for that and thanks for the content. All the best fokes.
Cracking video mate
That last bream was a minter.
Great to see a decent charter boat actually working to get on the fish for his paying customers
To many don’t do this anymore unfortunately cost of diesel I think !!
That’s the sign of the times mate. The cream will always rise to the top.
Always pal
What a great informative video and a brilliant day at sea 👍
Glad you enjoyed joining us mate.😊
Best boat in cornwall
😉
What a day! Perfect timing with this video, my work colleagues and I are looking into a charter out of Oban for a wee unofficial staff day out. You've cleared up most of the questions I had in my mind. 👍
I have fished with Roger Eaton about 6 years ago. Great trip.
@@TheFishLocker nice one. I'll look into that. 👍
What is that white and orange fish john? Did anybody keep
The big silver and pink one at the end? It’s a Couch bream.
I've fished for 50yrs on the north east coast and only had 1 of those species. You will guess which one haha. And what type of bream was that???
Red Bream.
Cheers John appreciate it.
Very cool bream, love that you are showing some UK charter footage!
I plant to show more from around the country.
Excellent video John.
My thanks to you, Robin and all on board for a wonderful experience and a great days fishing.
Glad you enjoyed joining us my friend.
Enjoyed that John, great boat, great skipper and nice guys to go fishing with. That Couch Bream was stunning, I read they can reach 3ft long and 15lbs never knew Bream get that big.
I would think a 3ft one would be heavier than 15lb!!!
Thats what I thought John but thats what I read up tp 15lbs and 3 ft long it didnt quite ring true I would have thought over 20 lb at 3 ft long but do they get that big..?
This has answered all my questions and settled my anxiety about going on a charter boat. Thanks for the information John. And that bream was a monster, but very stunning. Brilliant video as always 😃
If the videos help folks out then they are worth making mate. Good luck and be sure to speak to your skipper before hand. Most are more than happy to help. If he isn’t, go elsewhere. 😉👍🏻
them doggies know you will make them famous
🤣🤣
Could have at least pulled out a decent sized doggie lol
Haha. I had dozens!!!
Good Excellent again Plenty fish
Aye mate. Was a great trip.
Does no one take home for the table, thinking turbot or plaice
They were all too small to take for the table sadly.
What a cracking trip John, doesn’t get much better than that. Great skipper, great company and great fishing 💪🐟🎣
I agree mate. Great day all round. 👍🏻🎣
Love your channel! No life vests?
PFD’s are not really necessary with gunwales that high and inshore like this. They were on the boat to hand out if needed, but they weren’t needed. Also, one guy was wearing one.
That was an absolute pleasure to watch Mate-Well done and massive thanks for sharing as always, looking forward to seeing some Perch fishing :)
Cheers
Rob.
Cheers Rob. Some cracking fish landed throughout the day. 😊👍🏻
@@TheFishLocker I didn't realise until recently that perch are quite tasty to eat. If you ever go on your hols to Lake Geneva, Switzerland, fried perch and frites is a speciality in many restaurants around the lake!
As always a great video can't wait to be bk in Cornwall next week for a bit of fishing 🎣🦞🌊
Good luck for good weather mate.
@TheFishLocker hopefully mate either way least I'm in Cornwall 😊👍🏻
Like and enjoy 👍🍀🎣🍀👍
Greetings 🖖
Thank you sir.
Even here in the US, charters are usually newbie friendly. If you go on a smaller charter, most of the people are more than willing to talk with you on tips and such. Both on smaller and larger one, the mates (they go around helping keep the fish rolling) will be happy to help you. Never fear going on one. If you are in the NE US, I can even suggest a few that would be especially good for newbies.
Yes please. Feel free to recommend them in the comment section. 👍🏻
Yankee Fleet out of Glouster MA is friendly and has many different options of what they go after. Just a little to the North is Eastman's Docks. They have been my favorite and also have many different options.
What a great day you all had!I loved all the laughter!
The best kind of fishing trip is one filled with laughter.
Absolutely brilliant John. Any tips on sea sickness mate, the skippers love me as i always bring along my own personal chum slick 🤢🤮
Just take the tablets mate. Works for me when I’m rough.
Get your doctor to prescribe Stugeron and take it at least an hour before going to sea. It is extremely effective for any type of travel sickness.
@stevebarlow3154 thankyou very much Steve. 👍
Great video mate, looked a good day!
We had a cracking day mate. 👍🏻
Thank you and I love you bro 🍀😉👍
Haha. You are very kind.
great vid john that is the cleanest boat i have ever seen
It’s one of those things that when you stay on top of it, it’s easier to keep clean.
Dont people eat the fish they catch anymore ?
When they are good eating fish yes.
What a super vlog nice camera work Jon and the charter skipper was bang on just helping the other anglers and also looking after the welfare of the fish top bloke 😇
That’s the sign of a good skipper mate. They don’t fish they just devote their attention to their anglers catching fish and promoting good practices.
Good to see amount of fish going back
