I just spent ages looking for this video ! I remember watching this video right after it got uploaded when I was a kid and this was my favourite video for a while. I don't know why after 10 years I felt like I had to watch the video again but I'm happy that I'm watching it again. I don't know who you are lady but I want you to know that your videos made me a very happy when I was a child. I hope you and your family are all staying well and healthy!
Im a 19 year old boy and somehow came across this video whilst searching for videos of a 1989 Yamaha ZXR750, but i was so intrigued by the picture i started watching and before I knew it i'd watched the whole thing and I think it was awesome! Serious respect.
Oh how I miss videos uploaded of your cakes. You're the one who got me interested in beginning to make my cakes. I haven't made youtube videos yet, but as soon as I can I will start doing so.
Loved watching this process on my sick day off work. Music carried me off to fairy land - Don't get to go there to often so thank you. Cake looked magical!
I had so much fun watching this! Made me snort out loud a couple times...and now I don't feel so bad on wanting to cry over everything that went wrong with my grandson's first bday cake last Saturday. It was my first foray into cake decorating. It turned out...but dang was it a nightmare!!
you are my hero!! you inspire me to make cakes everyday!! and as a result i made a basket weave checkerboard cake for Christmas and was a great hit with my family. just miscalculated the size though!! was still eating it today morning!! thanks for your inspiration!!
Love the thought that went into this cake. Also your sense of humor is great. I felt for you while watching the sprinkles part cause I'm like "That is totally me somedays".
I must say. This video thoroughly impressed me. Not only was the cake AMAZING, but I absolutely LOVED the commentary. I was seriously laughing out loud the whole time (with you, of course). You just found yourself a new subscriber! :D
So I've been wanting to make a series of fairy gardens to document my extensive family 🌳 but I just couldn't decide how to do it. You have inspired me to do them with cake dummies and royal icing and fondant! I'm a cake decorator so it makes perfect sense! Thank you for your adorable 🎂!
You can definitely bake and freeze; allow your cakes to cool completely, then wrap in a double layer of plastic wrap. When you are ready to use them allow them to thaw to room temp before frosting. Word of advice-let them thaw completely, I've had terrible experiences frosting a frozen cake. Some people have no trouble with that but my frosting bulged and the decorations fell off.
I am ever so jelaouse at you! You hardly see these kind of cakes in Denamrk since people think they are way to sugary and fatning, with all the frosting and so. But I just love these kind of cakes. They are so beautiful and they can really give you free hands when it comes to creativity in making designs for the cakes :D I've made it my goal in life to become a pastry chef and see if i'll be able to make american kind of cakes sell in Denmark :D thanks for all the inspiration you've giving me ;D
I have to admit that I did giggle about the sugar...but only because I've been there (with "dirt" on my son's bug bug cake) I LOVE your stuff though! Very inspirational. I'm supposed to be making a lemon meringue pie right now, but can't stop watching! Thanks ;)
I found mine at a craft store in the cake decorating section. Even if you can't specifically find sanding sugar you ought to be able to find something similar, it's just larger grains of sugar, a bit like kosher or sea salt.
I am a pastry chef and I LOVED watching this tutorial "mistakes" and all!! It was great to see the entire process! I'm thinking of doing this cake for my grand daughter's 2nd birthday! You said in your notes that the sugar sprinkles made the cake too crunchy? What about coconut, dyed green and sprinkled with edible fairy or disco dust? :)
The board under the top of the mushroom is just a regular cake board, bought from a craft store. If you look at the top of the mushroom you'll see that the heaviest part would be the middle where the cake is the highest, not the edges. The board is sturdy enough that the edges did not collapse.
LOL love this tutorial, you are very laid back and funny with your approach, it was really entertaining and the end result was fab. Well worth all that beating yourself up lol. Looking forward to seeing some more tutorials/films from you :)
Those thick straws are called bubble tea straws. I have found them in Asian food markets, really cheap. A package of 100 costs around $5 here in Texas.
I usually refridgerate my cakes for an hour or so if I am going to carve into them, makes it much easier especially with a lovely light fluffy cake like yours........some of mine are so dense I don't need to worry....lol
@nivia91 Oh man, I feel like we were on a merry go round, one week healthy, 2 weeks sick, 1 week healthy, 2 weeks sick. Everyone is much better now, looking forward to tomorrow! Happy New Year to you and your family!!
I think I used cookie pop sticks for the dowels but it's a couple years so I'm not sure. Some people use thick straws and if I could find them they would be my first choice.
How did you stack the top on there? do you use dowels for support? My daughter wants a two story Lalaloopsy themed house cake for her birthday, have any tips for keeping the top from squishing the bottom or falling off? Should I use rice crispy for the top layer? Or is there a cake firm enough to work well with the help of dowels? Help please! Loved your video by the way! ~Laura~
That is an awesome cake! You mentioned the cake can use sour cream. What is the recipe for that? How would you substitute other ingredients with sour cream?
Very beautiful, love your work. Not sure if this would work with this cake, but I would try this if I would make a mushroom cake house. When icing the cake leave the top un iced so you can grab the cake bottom and top and roll the cake in a flat cookie sheet with lots of sugar in it. This way you get it on evenly and when you done that set it down where you want it and ice the top and sprinkle on the sugar. Hope this helps. :)
nicely done, tried myself to add cake crumbs to a buttercream cake, wish I had your humour then and there, it deserted me, I was on my own, ended up doing extra thick crumb coat, determined to beat that next time though, thanks for sharing
your cakes look really cute but do you know what I love even more? the look of the actual cake.. That chocolate and red velvet look so moist and fluffy I would eat any of those with no decoration at all.. where can we find the recipe?
I love love LOVE the cake! The chocolate cake looks divine! Did you found the recipe or is it yours? Do you mind sharing it?! Thank you and Merry Christmas to you and your family! God bless :D
for the spots would spray food colouring work with holes cut in parchment paper or would it drip down the cake (never used them before) thank you, merry christmas :)
very cool. i love that cake. my daughters would love it. but im not going to even try. im not that good. ill just show them this one and tell them thats what daddy would make you if he could. lol
Hi again! The time is coming around now for my daughters party in two weeks. Do you know is it ok to bake and freeze the cakes in advance and if so how do i do that? do i need to decorate them before the fully defrost?
hi my names julia i watch your channel all the time i was just wondering do you have the recipe for the hershey and red velvet cake also both icings that u used because it all looks AMAZING and if u do could you make a video with the recipes o r send me them thanks
if you ever want to do that again , do it as soon as the icing goes on before it sets or you can do what i do , i get clear piping gel and do a thin thin coat of it and then do the sprinkles or nuts or anythign you want to cover the cake in , very cute cake
Any cake recipe would be fine, because it's the dowels that are doing all the work supporting. I think I used wooden dowels for this cake and they worked fine :)
This might be a stretch, but what do you think of the combination of red velvet and regular buttercream? I know usually it's with the cream cheese frosting, but I felt the small screaming need to be a little unconventional.
if you do a mushroom again try baking the cake in a pyrex mixing bowl....works great....just can't have massive amount of frosting in between layers...I cut 3 layers from the one "bowl" cake and it was so easy...might be worth trying............my cake was a knome on top a mushroom, sadly I have photography issues like you and accidentally lost about 200+ photos of the whole party! I was not a popular mummy...eeehhhhhhhhh
I tried your red velvet recipe and it looked nothing like yours. I bake so many cakes that i'm pleased with but for some reason, I can't get the red velvet cake to turn out the way I want it. There were huge holes in it and it was more pink than red. If you have any tips, I would be grateful. Thanks.

Oh my word, thank you so much!!

i really love how much variety you get in your decorating without using any fondant(blech) at all.
You made my day. I would have given up and bought one. You are a hero.
Awww thanks!
I had so much fun watching this! Made me snort out loud a couple times...and now I don't feel so bad on wanting to cry over everything that went wrong with my grandson's first bday cake last Saturday. It was my first foray into cake decorating. It turned out...but dang was it a nightmare!!
Ah yes, looking back we can laugh, right? Lol 😆 Thanks for watching!
you are my hero!! you inspire me to make cakes everyday!! and as a result i made a basket weave checkerboard cake for Christmas and was a great hit with my family. just miscalculated the size though!! was still eating it today morning!! thanks for your inspiration!!

Another beautiful cake from the hands of Serious Cakes! Well done my friend.
This gave me hope for my cake future. And the giggles. Thank you for sharing.
I'm speechless so much passion and love went into the cake... *tear*
Your cake looked great! I bet the kids just loved it!
Well done, beautiful cake! I know if I were your daughter I would be pleased as a Princess! Happy Birthday to the Fairy Princess! Hugs
Do I need to tell you that I cried my heart out watching this video? You killed me with the Pride and Prejudice Soundtrack
I must say. This video thoroughly impressed me. Not only was the cake AMAZING, but I absolutely LOVED the commentary. I was seriously laughing out loud the whole time (with you, of course). You just found yourself a new subscriber! :D

That sounds like a fun idea! Please let me know how it goes!
Will do! I guess I will have to make a UA-cam channel... LOL
Yes!! Lol, I also like watching people decorate cakes!
Cute cake and great humor ! Loved it
Wow, what an absolutely gorgeous cake!!
This is so cute! You do amazing things with buttercream!
You've done it again - such a cute cake!
I am ever so jelaouse at you! You hardly see these kind of cakes in Denamrk since people think they are way to sugary and fatning, with all the frosting and so. But I just love these kind of cakes. LOVE the cake....was totally reliving pride and prejudice in my head....looooove the score from the movie
I enjoyed this thoroughly. You have a great talent and sense of humour. Will definitely be making this for my little sisters 4th birthday :)
i love watching shows or videos like this.. makes me want to learn how to decorate cakes too.. :)
I love this video because the whole time I was saying, "I feel your pain, sister." And then the cake turned out beautiful.
Anna OConner Thank you :D

This is so beautiful your friend and I have the same name lol....love all that you do a new fan
That is an awesome cake! You mentioned the cake can use sour cream. What is the recipe for that? How would you substitute other ingredients with sour cream?
@Peyton496 She used PB, and no its not hard to colour if you use paste colouring as liquid will thin out the frosting
you are sooo funny! like in the sprinkles part!LOL great cake!
Very beautiful, love your work. Not sure if this would work with this cake, but I would try this if I would make a mushroom cake house. +Karl B Thank you Suny, that's a good idea! I found your page on fb, following! :D
wow!!!!!!! your cake so wonderful great talent friend :)
@janneke82 Huge holes might be due to the eggs, did you add them one at a time, and let each one thoroughly mix in? What brand red dye did you use?
nicely done, tried myself to add cake crumbs to a buttercream cake, wish I had your humour then and there, it deserted me, I was on my own, ended up doing extra thick crumb coat, determined to beat that next time though, thanks for sharing
+Nayasgift Lol, it was only funny in hindsight, in the moment with the camera running I really wanted to pull out my hair!
it's a beautiful cake. and do not waste the cake scraps make them into cake pops!
Why oh why won't you share your wonderful creme cheese frosting? It looks so yummy!! Love the cake. It's beautiful as always! :)
You Did Such An Awesome Job On This, Something To Be Truly Proud Of :D.
your cakes look really cute but do you know what I love even more? the look of the actual cake.. That chocolate and red velvet look so moist and fluffy I would eat any of those with no decoration at all.. where can we find the recipe?
She has videos of how to make them on her channel.
Thanks alot..
Awwww! lol, I know it, it's one of my all time favorite movies!

Love your cake so much!
thanx for all your work i love it. this music from the movie pride and predgice , i love it whats the name of it

thank you, merry christmas :)
very cool. i love that cake. my daughters would love it. but im not going to even try. im not that good. ill just show them this one and tell them thats what daddy would make you if he could. lol
That was an incredibly beautiful cake! :)
Do you ever get tired of eating cake?
You can use regular sugar, it just is a lot smaller than sanding sugar.
aww, I think in the end it came out lovely!!
Thank you! She loved it :D
that was such a cute cake you inspired me to make my own wedding cake :D
if you ever want to do that again , do it as soon as the icing goes on before it sets or you can do what i do , i get clear piping gel and do a thin thin coat of it and then do the sprinkles or nuts or anythign you want to cover the cake in , very cute cake
+Jyl Zuyus I actually did do that as soon as I had frosted it, I wasn't quick enough though lol, peanut frosting crusts over super quick :D
you are very talented and so hilarious!!! I really enjoyed this! hehe
Thank you, I'm glad you liked it!! If you're interested, I have a new channel, Serious Cakes Plus :D
Any cake recipe would be fine, because it's the dowels that are doing all the work supporting. I think I used wooden dowels for this cake and they worked fine :)
Hi Julia, I posted a link on the video that should take you to all my other videos where I have posted the recipes :D
@popze That's so cool!! I wish you the best success :D
So this is all just normal buttercream? Does it set hard and how long does it take to set? Thanks! (gorgeous beautiful design btw)
This might be a stretch, but what do you think of the combination of red velvet and regular buttercream? I know usually it's with the cream cheese frosting, but I felt the small screaming need to be a little unconventional.
@starltrubymoon lol, they didn't get to have any of those, I made them into cake pops and took them to the kids gymnastics :D
One of my very favorite movies/books :D
@CompulsiveOrigami lol, I think it would be fine, nothing wrong with going the direct opposite :D
if you do a mushroom again try baking the cake in a pyrex mixing bowl....works great....just can't have massive amount of frosting in between layers...I cut 3 layers from the one "bowl" cake and it was so easy...might be worth trying............my cake was a knome on top a mushroom, sadly I have photography issues like you and accidentally lost about 200+ photos of the whole party! There were huge holes in it and it was more pink than red. If you have any tips, I would be grateful. Thanks.
@underscore64 I used some cookie pop sticks and stacked the cake like that. I have a video titled "Stacking and Fixing" where I show how to do this :)
I have to ask, how do you cut that kind of cake? Do you take the upper part down or you have some special method?
I loved it everytime you made a mistake xD So cute
Your cakes are extremely cute!!! Love all of them....just wish you had different music lmao!!!!
@LolaB25 I like to take them apart before cutting, makes me nervous :D
@Cimorenne Thank you :D
No offence, but at first I didn't think this cake would turn out very well..
How wrong was I? Great cake! I want one!
@Shortfingers10 Thank you very much :D
wow!!! I'm fantastic congratulations
@ladyanaely I bought that from a local craft store :D
