Behemoth in Hebrew just means “animals”. It appears in one place poetically as a huge beast, and there are a few parables about it, but imagine it more like a bull than Predator or whatever that is. It’s also not like a thing we tell stories about or anything scary. It’s just a cryptic detail in Job.
Rakshas are a race of creatures. They aren't necessarily cannibal or evil. Most of them are depicted as villains. The western equivalent would be a demon
Same goes for humbaba , even in the epic of gilgamesh it was described as a creature that minds its own business and only dwell on the forest. Gilgamesh and enkidu killed it for sport and to spite the gods. Same goes for tikbalang , they are a race of creatures that often play pranks on people and other mythological creatures. Though in some stories they would reward adventurers for their bravery especially if its a woman.

Inaccuracy: Zhu Bajie is described as a “demon,” but he’s got his own unique backstory as one of the *protagonists* of Journey to the West. You see, Zhu Bajie was once a good-looking and rather high-ranking official in Heaven. One day, the guy got drunk and molested *Chang’e*, who was kind of a big shot in Heaven. The offense was enough to get Bajie banished from Heaven and was given a hideous, pig-like appearance. He is given a chance at redemption by the bodhisattva Guanyin. She tells him that he must protect and aid Tang Sanzang on his titular journey to the West.

*It seems that this video is missing mexico’s 🇲🇽monster so i’m gonna leave it here for anyone with interest:* There are many local legends such as “el charro negro”, an undead guy who’s spirit roams around lonely highways to look for people to talk with and make company, or “la llorona” a ghost of a mother who’s kids drowned in a river, so she roams in lakes looking for them But the most important creature of all of these is *”el chupacabras”* easily translated to *“the goat eater”*, a creature that, well.. eats goats from local farms at night, its appearance can be described as a hyena with severe mutations, such as spikes on its back, some holes and warts through its body and a mouth with severe displaced teeth, this last characteristic is the one that made the rumors of this creature existing, since it eats goats in a particular way, sucking their blood until they die, leaving its teeth mark on the goats that it ate, that’s why it’s called “chupacabras”!! Basically “chupa/chupar” = suck, but goatsucker is a pretty goofy name if we translate it to english, so the name goat eater fits it better. thank you for reading! I hope i could interest you in some mexico creatures, feel free to ask any question about this topic, peace🌵🌵🌵

Bugbear... German? Wait a minute. I am German. I have never heard of a bugbear as a German creature or something that looks like the thing in the video. The English Wikipedia translates the bugbear as a goblin, which is certainly something different and also common in other European cultures, the German Wikipedia translates it to a "Schrat" a.k.a. "Waldschrat". The last one is better described as a forest ghost, which brings nightmares and looks like a very old man. Imagine the character Radagast from Lord of the rings and you have the picture of a "Waldschrat". But that thing in the video is certainly something a modern artist came up with. Anybody who is watching this video. Don't take this "eductation" too serious. It's bad.
Yeah, the bugbear surprised me as well. At first, I thought that they meant Kobolds but the description didn't fit them at all. Maybe Nachtkrapp would fit the bill? They also got Leshy and Rakshasa wrong.
Tikbalang is actually a friendly creature -They only attack those who steel and trespass on there territory -They have the ability to transform to human form
Both west slavs and east slavs believed in Leshy as a guardian of forests. That means that he is present in the believs of slavic tribes from todays central and east Europe not just russia
A lot of stuff in this video is just plain wrong. I am south Slavic (Croatian) and even I knew that Leszy/Lešij is not a monster/demon, but a protective spirit of nature. Also, Bugbear is not a name of any German monster, but I presume they meant the Nachtkrapp (?). Also, they presented Behemoth as some kind of humanoid (???) when all of the sources (including the Bible) hint at it as being an enormous ox-like herbivore. I'm not even going to comment on the fact that they said that the "Ghoul" inspired today's zombies. Zombi(e) comes from a haitian voudun folclore.

🇷🇸 Vampire. Vampires originated in Serbia. The word vampire entered western languages from Serbia in the late 1720s. The word first came into international use in the 18th century, when Austrian officials noted a local tendency in northern Serbia to exhume bodies and kill corpses all over again, with the locals referring to the cadavers as ‘vampires’. Sava Savanović is one of the most famous Serbian vampires, reportedly lived in an old wooden mill on the Rogačica river and sucked the blood of millers.
Back then they were more like Zombies, like German "Widergänger", also old irish had believed in such things and smashed the heads of corpses or put stones into the mouths. The blood sucking story isn't that old, I think. 🤔 But ~1800 sounds good.
Random fact: in Russian the Behemoth means hippopotamus. And as we have already written here, Leshen is described differently. Like a dead tree or a stump that looks like an old man.

you can't really call Zhu Bajie a monster in the epic he serves as a protector of the monk Tangseng who was sent onto a journey to India to bring Buddhism to China where he faces many difficulties, and the three creatures Sun Wukong (monkey), Zhu Bajie (pig) and Sha Wujing (water demon) are protecting him. Zhu Bajie is lazy and falls for women easily but in general he is a good character. A more monster-like creature would be Nian Shou, a demon who is said to have been coming to villages around new year to eat sheep, goats and children. But one new year some guy decided to put this to an end, and he learned that this demon's biggest fear was the color red, so he ordered the whole village to put read paper around the doors. When Nian Shou came to the village on New Year's eve, he was scared off by the red color and never came again. This is why everything has to be in red when New Year approaches in China. btw the name of Nian Shou (年兽) basically means "Year Demon"
I love Journey to the West. While Zhu Bajie isn't a villain in the story, he's not a very "good" person. The reason he has his pig form was because he attacked a woman when he was drunk. But then, Wukong was very naughty too, so I guess I can't complain about Bajie... 😆

There are many local legends such as “el charro negro”, an undead guy who’s spirit roams around lonely highways to look for people to talk with and make company, or “la llorona” a ghost of a mother who’s kids drowned in a river, so she roams in lakes looking for them
But the most important creature of all of these is *”el chupacabras”* easily translated to *“the goat eater”*, a creature that, well.. eats goats from local farms at night, its appearance can be described as a hyena with severe mutations, such as spikes on its back, some holes and warts through its body and a mouth with severe displaced teeth, this last characteristic is the one that made the rumors of this creature existing, since it eats goats in a particular way, sucking their blood until they die, leaving its teeth mark on the goats that it ate, that’s why it’s called “chupacabras”!! Basically “chupa/chupar” = suck, but goatsucker is a pretty goofy name if we translate it to english, so the name goat eater fits it better.

Monsters are very similar. Only the heads that are from different animals change. Here in Brazil we have many monsters, Mapinguari, Saci Pererê, Boitatá, and Caipora.

Good thing that all monsters look like wrestlers, otherwise you'd have a problem using only that one body.

Like a dead tree or a stump that looks like an old man.
another fact, the word behemoth (בהמות) in Hebrew is the plural form of behema (בהמה) which means beast.
Additionally, Leshiy (you should spell it like that) is not entirely evil, and basically is just a forest guardian that won’t touch you if you don’t harm nature

you can't really call Zhu Bajie a monster
in the epic he serves as a protector of the monk Tangseng who was sent onto a journey to India to bring Buddhism to China where he faces many difficulties, and the three creatures Sun Wukong (monkey), Zhu Bajie (pig) and Sha Wujing (water demon) are protecting him.
I'm Brazilian, I like a lot of folkloric stories, but this is the first time I've heard about mapinguari, like, I saw that the legend exists but I think there are many other more popular legends in Brazil, but the video is great :)
