While I absolutely hated this trend in 2016, I do find it absolutely hysterical that one of my moms best friends dresses up as Michael Myers when she takes her two daughters trick or treating. She just stands at the end of the street under a street light while they go off door to door. We live in Central Iowa so the night for trick or treating is called Beggars Night and it's usually the day before Halloween, so it's mostly kids who don't understand the reference and parents who grew up with the movies that see her and usually think its pretty funny (especially when they learn that it's a mom out with her kids). It's something she's been doing since she got divorced and it brings her so much more joy than her husband ever did lmao

Hi!! As a clown and clown enthusiast, I completely understand the fear of clowns!! Strangers in makeup don’t allow you to see the person’s true identity and that can be incredibly unsettling!! I also hate the people who continue to stage creepy clown sightings,,, it makes clowns seem much scarier than we try to be (at least, scarier than I try to be). Anyways. Great video as always!!! It also plays into the manic defense as a way of "hiding the pain" or in this case hiding the danger behind a grotesque version of something that's supposed to be fun and joyful. There's a psychological reasoning behind the fear of clowns, it's not only cultural.
i love clowns but i used to be scared of them cuz as a kid i was terrified of strangers and a family friend picked me up while he was in rodeo clown make up and i didn’t know it was him and it scared the shit out of me lmao
Yeah like if you're performing in a performance space, I'm not going to mind. For me it's randomly seeing these people in most of the time gore clown costumes and being creepy and not being able to see that it's a person. Like once in high school a guy came wearing the goriest clown costume with like a scythe (it was not halloween) and it caused me to break down because I had no idea what was happening and I later discovered I actually knew him but he was covered in fake blood

Penn State alum here! 2016 was my freshman year and the “clown hunt” was actually a few frats who forced their pledges to dress up and walk around campus. The hunt wasn’t organized, we just devolved into chaos. It was really confusing, suddenly everyone started rioting and several students had weapons in their dorms. That was one of three riots that semester.

PSU hadn’t won any football games since their major scandal and this was their “Cinderella season” so when they won their major games students caused 15k in damages downtown from excitement. 2016-17 was an eventful school year at Penn State

fun fact! i suffer from psychotic delusions/paranoia and at my 9th grade homecoming dance during this big country-wide clown epidemic, my friends decided to convince me that they'd seen a clown lurking outside the very dark and very empty school. had a bit of a break down and had to leave the dance early 🕺

the trend should've died in 2016 and STAYED in 2016, genuinely such a stupid thing that they're trying to bring it back especially when it caused ACTUAL harm to people and had schools locked down for "sightings"

On the topic of clowns I find it disheartening that people think people who aren't able to handle the new terrifier movie are just wimps personally I feel like if you can't handle somebody being sawd in half then that's normal I don't understand why a majority of people feels that just because it's fake it shouldn't bother you
Edit: I personally love the terrifier series and I'm a huge fan of it and not many scenes bother me but I'm speaking on other people's behalf
As someone who is a fan of both the terrifier movies, I fully agree. Like, people has to walk out of the theatre I was in because I don’t think they were prepared for the level of gross of that movie. I would never want to force somebody to be uncomfortable, so I don’t see a reason to put down people who aren’t fans of that level of gore.

I was fully expecting to see people walking out of the theater when I saw it because of all the reports but the entire theater at my showing was crying laughing and airdropping each other memes during the ads at the beginning, I was surprised lol
@@clearlyunlabeled Agreed. I can also be difficult for some people with certain disorders, disabilities, maturity, etc. to understand reality from fiction. I love psychological thrillers because they often make you think of the metaphors and reasoning behind things happening but I have to choose gore and terror carefully. It's especially terrifying because serial killers and random killings are rare but do exist.

i unfortunately go to penn state university and i can’t even begin to dive into how much sense that clown mob makes
in my school during 2016 we had a “code red” and the police had to come to our school cause someone reported a clown sighting and we all thought there was an actual murderer in the building and everyone was crying and a few people were literally throwing up cause we were so scared.
Same lol we had a lock down like you would do with a school shooter. All for a clown that didn’t exist 😭
My school district sent out an email to all the parents about clown sightings, telling them to be careful when sending their kids to school, stuff like that, I still have the email lol

fall of 2016 was my first semester of college, right out of high school, and of course there was a clown sighting. the RAs told us to stay inside and everything ksjdgfkdsj but my room was on the back of the building and there was a path back there, so we heard a group of kids out there searching for the clown. I had my window open and yelled out "FUCK THE CLOWN!" and they all yelled it back and cheered 🤣🤣
I dropped out after that semester bc I wasnt ready for college so I do treasure that as one of the few good memories 🤣

i love clowns, i have a creepy clown painting and and cute clown tattoo (a memorial piece for my dead best friend who also loved clowns), i do clown makeup every now and then, and i want to go to clown school! i like the artistry and the silliness, but i HATE these stupid people who dress up all creepy and try to scare people and break into homes and go to schools and do dumb shit. there's a time and place for creepy clowns (haunted houses, art, controlled settings with consenting individuals that are aware they're in no physical danger, etc) and as someone who loves clownery and silly little tricks and goofs in good fun, it really makes me angry when people take it outside of the acceptable settings and ruins clowns for people. even as a clown lover, i would absolutely shit myself if i saw one of these assholes in real life. it's dumb and dangerous for everyone involved, and it's making the careers of real actual clowns harder.

im not a professional clown, but i do dress up as one for fun! clownery is so weird and i love it with all my heart tbh! i recently did a whole deep dive into the history of clowns being scary, turns our killer clowns have been ruining it for us for centuries! dating back to the 1800s when one guy who happened to be a clown ruined it for all of us and decided he had to kill somebody 🫠

I definitely understand the clown fear lol, when I was around 3-4 years old, my neighbors took my brother and I to the local circus. A clown was walking around the ring, selecting kids to come down and be part of the show, and their role was to get PrAnKeD by the clown by getting a pie in the face or something. The clown pointed to me and I was like "hale naw I see what you're doing" (not actually that would be funny for a 4 year old to say tho) and I hid behind my neighbors' mom. The clown couldn't take no for an answer APPARENTLY and started fucking CLIMBING THE BLEACHERS to get to me and when I started crying and they backed off. Had recurring nightmares about that for two weeks straight

I am not from the USA where the killer clowns trend was proheminent, but just following some truly talented clowns online, you could see how detrimental this trend was for actual clowns. For some, it's literally their life career, lifestyle, that they put everything into it, and sadly, a lot of them lost their jobs, that were even more than just their way of earning money for them.
I really hope this trend stay dead, please.

Killer Klowns from Outer Space is an amazing movie. The first time I saw it was in the 80s on VHS. I was living in a travel trailer deep in the Oregon woods and I watched it with my 5 year old son. We were laughing in horror. Terrified by every sound coming from the woods. So we watched it every night for a week until we could get back to the video store and get a different movie. We only went into town once a week. Ah, the 80s. Good times.
Watching it again recently I could laugh because I'm not alone, deep in the woods with a 5 year old. But yeah. I definitely recommend it to anyone who likes cheesy horror flicks. It doesn't really get any cheesier than Killer Klowns from Outer Space
You can't fucking do this to me. This just gave me flashbacks of Halloween 2016 where I literally took a kitchen knife with me to go Trick or Treating cuz i was terrified me and my friends were gonna get murdered by those stupid ass clowns. October 2016 was so weird. I was in high school at the time and trick-or-treating with my friends when these kids probably like 8 or younger ran up to us scared cause they saw a killer clown. My friends and I, a group of like 15-18 years old at the time straight up humored them saying they had to protect us from the clown.
this was my first year of college at a state college in the midwest. apparently a bunch of sororities reported clowns outside their windows at night - as if being a woman on campus at night wasn't scary enough!
whenever i’m reminded of clowns i always get this memory of when i was like 7-8 at this girls summer camp and we had to pair up with someone to do an act for the talent show for the end of camp and since no one wanted to really pair up with me i got one of the camp councillors by default. so i slightly mentioned that i enjoyed Frozen which had pretty recently come out, in doing this i also found out that the councillor i was paired with was also a professional clown so she came up with the idea to do a re-made version of let it go but instead of elsa having any connections to snow, it would be about clown stuff. like cream pies , flowers that shot out water, basically instead of the line “arindeil’s in deep deep snow” it was “arindeils in deep deep cream” to give u some idea. we were dressed up as clowns, and so imagine ur a parent, forced to go to this talent show that’s with a bunch of different kids and this small child in clown dress and an adult dressed in a professional clown outfit, comes out and the small child can barely muster up the courage to mutter 1/4 of the words while the adult belts their lines in a professional clown voice while the child looks like they’re about to burst into terrified tears

october 2016 i had just gotten my drivers license a few months before and on halloween a boy dressed as a clown jumped out in front of my car to scare me and i almost accidentally ran the kid over
So my uncle is a pretty strange guy and for as long as I can remember his homeless gutter dweller aesthetic of choice has been disheveled (kinda creepy) clown.
When clown pranks first started going viral, clowns got banned in my town outside of festival performances. Made him super sad. Now people have pretty much forgotten about it and he gets to wear his favorite outfits and be weird again (everyone in town is used to him so he's not pranking people like this). It's nice. Clown prank videos suck

omg this made me remember, a few weeks ago we went to a mall that in the past had been known for shootings but it has been about a year since that happened so we thought it would be fine to go. and it was, there were police officers all around the building and it felt pretty safe. but as my mom and i were walking to a store on the second floor, a clown walked past us and waved, silently to me. i was honestly really scared, i hate not seeing people’s faces as that’s how i read emotions. but i look around and there are TWO OTHER clowns on opposite sides of the floor, almost like creating a circle around the downstairs below us. i got terrified and almost had a panic attack because i thought they were going to start shooting as they really could have been hiding anything in those big clown outfits. but thankfully a police officer noticed and started talking to them and when we came out of the store, they were gone. i think i might have a slight fear of clowns now, especially silent ones.
i also remember in middle school (2016) i was scared to go to school because there was a rumor clowns were in the trees/forest right outside the building. like thanks for scaring the crap out of literal children guys! that’s hilarious!

I live in Finland, nothern europe and not only were clowns spotted here, but they were also a concern😭💀 I was 12 years old (in 6th grade) at the time and we had a school assembly about this. Teachers reassuring us that they're not real and they're just teenagers doing pranks. hahahah.

National threat? Believe me, it was big in other places too! In Sweden for a period of time a lot of stores stopped selling any form of clown suits or anything that could be used as clown attire and almost all halloween-parties near me that autumn had rules to not come dressed as a clown lmaoo. The whole ordeal was both kinda scary and weird, yet hilarious.

I remember someone getting suspended for bringing a clown mask to school. We also went on lockdown because there supposedly was a clown sighting nearby. I’m not scared of clowns but that particularly prank was terrifying.

clowning is super fun. i’ve done some clowning and it’s so so fun and lighthearted, it makes you feel like a kid again. i also love scary movies that involve clowns bc it is that human nature of being scared of A. the fact that you can’t see a stranger’s face and B. the fact their face makeup doesn’t change regardless of emotion (no facial expression = not human to human brain). but clowns are hardworking people who love their jobs and the damage that Joker and John Wayne Gacy and this dumbass 2016 clown sighting trend has done to clowning is so sad and nearly irreparable. clowning is for fun. not evil.
