Thanks for your content! New to the Masterbuilt community. Assembled my first grill Friday, the 600 and on the last leg of the seasoning while watching this video. Watched your older video on the seasoning, and looks like I got it right! Once again, thanks for the videos.
Informative episode. Thanks. I pretty much nailed the guess on how much charcoal to use on my first rib cook with the Tahoma 900. I didn't walk away from the experience feeling that I was going to waste a lot of fuel going forward. Yes, it's not as easy as shutting it off and walking away like the Masterbuilt. However, it's not $800 easier. JT
Awesome review Tommy, and definitely a great guest line up! Masterbuilt really put together and nice machine, can’t wait till the cooking begins ! Have a great weekend, cheers brother 🍻
Tnx Tommy. That was great to watch. Yes looks like they have definitely improved the strength in the hopper. Hopefully it will not blow after a couple dozen cooks ? Can’t wait for the cook now. Have a great weekend Bud 👍
I appreciate your vids, I recently pulled the trigger on a XT. Ive wanted a offset for a long time, but, I simply dont have the time to add wood every 15-30 min. This option seems to be the closest I can get while maintaining convenience. I definitely plan on running all wood fires to get the offset/close to offset quality smoke. Happy smoking bro!
Good point Scotty, That said, that was always one of the biggest questions with the 560, 800, 900, and 1050. For me, it's something that they should of gotten right!!
Another great video. This has put to rest my biggest concern of the XT. Like you said, the Tacoma 900 continuous fuel burn is a terrible oversight. I'm glad Masterbuilt was able to improve what Oklahoma Joe did. I have no hesitation about buying this grill now.
Hey Tommy, thanks for these videos. I have a few more to watch and I got my finger on the trigger. So one question I had that you mentioned did you ever figure out what the lowest temperature setting you could run this at? I was wondering because I’d like to smoke a lot of salmon thanks man keep up the good work!
Tommy, you are the man, my brother 🙏🏾 thank you for the info. They are sold out EVERYWHERE. I will definitely have one as soon as they are back in stock FOR SURE.

Here is a question. Not sure if you touched on this but can you set up a cook? ie: run the unit at 225* for 4 hrs and then have it automatically set the temp to 275 for 1hr ?
Hi Tommy, I have you down as a well known authority on Masterbuilt. I’ve just purchased one over here in the UK because i don’t have time to babysit my offset and although my campchef pellet grill is good, there’s nothing like live fire as you know. Would you recommend Charcoal briquettes or lump? I will be mixing this with natural wood. Look forward to hearing from you.
briquettes... My problem with lump is the amount of dust that get scattered in and around the food. If you do do lump. When you open the hood open it slowely. Slowely=less dust. Cheers
For snuffing the fire of the Tahoma, would a simple magnetic door/cap over the fan port do the trick? Or is the main damper also pretty drafty? Thanks in advance.
The char griller uses that fan cover.. Im sure that would help. That said. I just wish OKJ had that figured out as i feel its very important. I mean. Its like buying a car and only putting the amount of gas your gonna need.
Hey Tommy - appreciate your videos, man! Quick, slightly unrelated question. I'm looking at getting a masterbuilt, and between the few stores that carry them near me, the MB800 and MB1050 are basically the same cost. Other than the griddle that comes stock with the 800, is there any reason to not get the 1050?
@@thegalleryBBQ thanks, I learned a lot from the burn off (temp did drop back down) and then did an initial cook with an inexpensive pork butt that came out great. No complaints about the unit, held steady for hours. One small complaint about the app is that it seems to have the same doneness settings regardless of type of meat and cut. I think they could fix this with an update because it makes no sense to have a setting for rare pork or chicken or cuts that would never be good to "undercook" like brisket.
Thats weird. Make sure your ash grate is nive and clean, also. After lighting leave the door open up top and at the ash cleanout for a solid 3-4 minutes. Also make sure your flume thing is closed.
So, how much does that controller unit cost when it fails? Because my 560 failed, and the temperature probe inside the grill has never worked correctly. It's always 20° off, and there's no way to calibrate it. So, how well-made is this one? Mine's been under a cover since I got it, and it's still rotting away. No, the Masterbuilt products aren't made very well.

Tommy my brother....Masterbuilt definitely brought their "A" game to the table 💯. Ciao 🍻
I think so!!
Thanks for the advice on assembly and helping debug my temp readings on FB! You rock.
Cheers brother!
Very informative Tommy, can't wait to get my hands on this bad boy!
I'd have to say, good choice!
In defense of the Tahoma 900. They didn't say the fire will snuff out. Lol but it's a shame doesn't. MB. Makes an amazing pit. Awesome job.

ZERO.... this pit appears to be what everyone wanted from the 1050.... Except the price! lol
@@thegalleryBBQ Masterbuilt just replaced the 560 with the new 600. Maybe they will replace 800 and 1050 as well.

Great video, that controller is almost identical to my Spider Grills attachment for the Weber kettle. Very nice.
Mike, and the connected joe grill... Masterbuilt spared no expense on this bad boy... That said, at 1499 you'd hope that was the case!
Great video! Looks like a big time hit with this XT.
Im leaning that way!!

No doubt! Well worth it. Check out todays video. Some good info in there.
! will be tuning in Sunday ... should be good
Its going to be killer!
Is the controller on the XT a PID controller?
Thx for the great info! I'm seasoning now and temps are wildly off! If I set to 150 I get 300f. Any ideas how to get the temp dialed in?

Hi Tommy, the control panel is very close the hot part of the burn chamber, does the panel get hot?
Hi Peter, it does not!!

@thegalleryBBQ thanks for the response, dude! Keep up those awesome cooks!

That controller is used on other products like the konnected joe and the spider grills venom. It is super durable and built to last.
@@eclipxe It's a different beast for sure-. Also, i do believe we have a 3 year warranty although i'm not sure if that includes the !
Yeah but is it worth the $1500 price tag over the older 1050 version?
I'd need a few cooks to make that determination! Stay tuned.
Can this controller be modified
To work with the 1050 ?
@@MrBlackkingofhearts Good question... Unfortunately I do not have that answer.
Boom!! 💥
Got rid of mine. Controller decided to up it's temperature to error code and caused grease fire. Ruined Easter brisket.
The XT???
I honestly see no reason to upgrade.
I wonder the release date and price for Australia?
I just brought the 1050 for $1599 AUD so this XT will probably be $3000 AUD?!
good question.
