U can keep just a little more water than what is needed to boil so that u dont have to drain and throw extra. That little more water u can drink fresh. How much water to keep will come with experience in few times. Hope it helps
After peeling an onion you actually shouldn’t keep it in the fridge as it releases harmful chemicals so ideally you should use it within the day you peel it.

No it doesnt get lost completely but gets a little compromised. However if u prepare everything from fresh from scratch then either u wl end up spending too much time in kitchen which will make u cranky and exhausted or reduce the number of healthy dishes u can serve to ir family. So all in all its better to keep somethings prepared in fridge
