      @@00PlPu00 It happens, but we gone so woke we don't discuss it. Nims is a class act and a gentleman. He was a Ghurka and in the SBS before climbing mountains. I don't see him acting unruly. After seeing Kirstin Harila's behavior towards her fellow human on K2, I would give Nims the benefit of the doubt. The Scandinavian women are not above everyone and their word is absolute. Here are cases where women falsely accused men.
      Nikki Yovino (2017): Yovino, a student at Sacred Heart University in Connecticut, falsely accused two football players of raping her. She later admitted to police that she had fabricated the allegations to gain sympathy from another student she wanted to date. Yovino was sentenced to one year in prison for making false rape claims.
      Crystal Mangum (2006): Mangum falsely accused three Duke University lacrosse players of raping her at a party. The case received extensive media coverage and sparked national debates on issues of race, class, and the criminal justice system. After a year-long investigation, all charges were dropped, and it was determined that Mangum had fabricated the story. The prosecutor, Mike Nifong, was disbarred for his handling of the case.
      Emma Sulkowicz (2014): Sulkowicz, a student at Columbia University, accused a fellow student, Paul Nungesser, of raping her. She gained national attention for her performance art piece, "Mattress Performance (Carry That Weight)," in which she carried a mattress around campus to symbolize the burden of her alleged assault. An internal university investigation cleared Nungesser of wrongdoing, and he later sued Columbia University, settling out of court.
      Wanetta Gibson (2002): As mentioned earlier, Gibson falsely accused high school football player Brian Banks of rape. Banks was wrongfully convicted and spent over five years in prison before Gibson admitted she had fabricated the story.

    I dunno man…with regard to the Nims allegations, it’s not that I don’t believe the women, but without any real investigations or finalization, you’re all of a sudden at a point where you say that the climbing community has a long way to go to repair itself? I suppose this also includes the numbers you gave from men and women who feel they have had sexual advances (or whatever the statement was), but it seems like you skipped an awful lot of important due diligence to suddenly arrive at the judgment that the climbing community, including Nims, are tainted. There were a couple of witnesses who supported Nims’ claims in response to the allegations, so maybe there is more to this than meets the eye. Regardless, I’m not saying that we should immediately discount anything, but to automatically jump to how awful the industry is and be so contrite about it is not how I would react. If anything, present it as news and wait to pass judgment until more facts are known.

    • @juniper1286
      @juniper1286 8 місяців тому +6

      Although I agree on the further investigation, I feel like you miss a big part of the video and the article that mentions that this subject is widely underrepresented and many victims are not even heard out or given a voice to talk about this, and that is something that needs to change. Climbing should be a socially safe environment to all, regardless of their gender or background. And yes, there is a LOT of discrimination against women in this sport, not just sexually. So saying ''the climbing and mountaineering world has a lot to do'' (not that the industry is awful, no one mentioned this) is definitely true.

    • @simonwilliams9850
      @simonwilliams9850 8 місяців тому

      And yet here you are passing vague judgement instead of engaging more directly with the climbing community and being more aware of what is actually happening beyond your media crusade. It's up to you as an adult to learn to think more critically in regards to public issues like this and to be a safe person at a more local level. If you aren't aware of how bad this issue is around you, it's because folk don't see you as someone they can talk to about it, probably because you grandstand and say I believe....BUT....and then you try to dictate other folks realities instead of letting them change the harmful culture you are defending

    • @ash2521

      I think you and I have heard the phrase "Innocent until proven guilty" before.

    • @simonwilliams9850
      @simonwilliams9850 7 місяців тому +3

      @ash2521 yes it is frequently parroted by insecure men who don't want to think for themselves and look at the evidence in front of them. None of us are pretending to be judges here but supporting our community members and changing harmful culture takes more than the legal system, especially considering the reality that the majority of abuse is not reported due to the harmful culture and what is reported is rarely convicted. Change the culture and the legal accountability will finally follow

    • @miketausig4205
      @miketausig4205 7 місяців тому

      @@simonwilliams9850 so, you have all the evidence? You have all the context? You have the transcripts of witnesses on both sides? You have sworn testimony beyond what somebody “claims” as truth? If you have ALL that information then of course you’re better positioned to make an accurate call of “guilty” or “innocent,” but otherwise you can politely piss off. Without knowing the key aspects of what this woman said and the totality of evidence, it is not for me to pass judgement. So before you start calling me insecure, think of how you would want to be treated if you were accused of something. The court of public opinion has taken WAY too much precedence over actual facts…of which you (likely) have none, beyond the accusations. Like I said…how would you wish to be treated if you were being accused of something similar? By your statement, you’ve basically taken the reverse practice of an assumption of guilt based on a historical metric of abuse not being reported. My guess is you’ll lie, here, but I’m pretty sure you would be begging for your day in court so that all evidence could be adjudicated. I’m all for supporting EVERYONE in the community, and I’m not saying he didn’t do it…rather, because I’m 8000 miles away and have heard NO EVIDENCE, I will not indict either party. You might consider doing the same instead of using previous facts (that have nothing to do with this case) to assume guilt.

      You know, as a guy that doesn't want to be part of the problems - and wants to be part of the solutions - I would like to agree with you. But, as with the Angels baseball player's recent court case, the gal who accused him of sexual assault was actually found to be attempting to extort him. I am NOT saying that happened in the case of these two mountaineering ladies - and I have NOT read any of the articles or supporting evidence (just saw this video), but I can't just automatically believe victims. It becomes a "trust, but verify" situation. Women should not get a pass on evidence, just because they claim something; men should not get branded as an "assault-er" just because they've been accused. I am sympathetic to these two ladies and victims in general, but cannot support "she said therefore it must be true."
