Ah i missed the live streaming. I couldn't watch it because I had work to do. But at the first 2 minutes watching it, I felt so regret I missed the live streaming. So beautifiul view.
Just imagining going back in time, riding the rickshaw with matching kimono, seeing the beautiful foliage, the samurai houses, the trees that are 300 years old, this is why I love Japan.🤗🤗
You have to understand though the ones preserved are usually the big and nice ones of important folk. There are a few places where they preserved street of the homes of less well of retainers and esp. at the end of the Bakufu, the lower samurai led pretty miserable lives for various economic reasons.
@@nemisis3006 I'm pretty sure that would be something for Ashigaru or during wartime/sieges. I don't know for sure but my impression was that even the lowest retainer would be given a house or plot to build one on. Rounin or Ashigaru would be different of course. (Retainer = Samurai who has pledged loyalty to and been excepted into service of the lord, often for generations, Rounin = Samurai without a lord, pretty much a mercenary or bandit. Or both depending on the occasion.)
Wonderful place and wonderful stream. I managed to sleep through it cause a little nap turned into like eight hours straight of catching up on much lost sleep. Quite a time over here.
Incredible, John brings us yet another unique cultural experience with both exclusive access and local knowledge. And with the magic of a live stream we have the excitement of sharing an intimate journey of discovery alongside John who acts simultaneously as both an explorer and our personal guide. How good is that?
Yep, the samurai families of Kakunodate were part of the North Satake clan. They were very powerful and important, and they descended from the Minamoto clan which was one of the four most powerful clans in Japanese history. The Satake clan had direct access to the Shogun in Edo Castle, and the Shogun gave them the responsibility of many territories.
Thank you so much for showing this samurai town! One of the most beautiful places I've seen in your videos. The houses, the trees, those colours! OMG! It was indeed a time travelling. And the stories about the families, the culture, just a huge extra! xx
Great content as always, it would be good to see a episode on main channel about direct descendents of samurais, what are their lives and what they feel about their forefathers ranks and past bygone. And in this case how's daily life of Ishigurosan in his ancestral home.
I’ve had the great privilege to meet Tokugawa XV several times, the 15th descendent of the Shogun and visited his museum in Mito 3 years ago. I had plans to visit the Tokugawa private tombs but with Covid, it’s hard but if I do an episode, I go to the top. The Shogun ⚔️
just found this treasure. thumbs up so enjoyed the whole episode thx for getting permission to film in that house ... huge pace love the turtles swimming in the pond. the food store looked like tablet but I am sure it wasnt tablet thx John
That is such a beautiful surrounding. Would be interesting to walk around during sunset and get the feel of The Edo period! I pin this for my next trip. Excellent
I missed out again! Good morning from Oklahoma! And it’s beautiful love the Fall colors! Love your Kimono 👘. No speeding LOL 😂. Thank you for sharing 👍🏽
Very interesting John! I learned a lot today, so many details thst make this experience invaluable. The owner of the samurai house was really nice in showing this house. The video as a whole excellent! What a beautiful place this town is. Thanks for taking us along with you! 😊👍
Love learning about history and seeing hearing about the past. Its interesting that they were only 5 foot 6 inches which is around the same hight as I am. Thanks for the tour.
everytime i see John doing livestream like this, i always feel i am in the real place, and not watch it from video. and after that, when i see the same video from other channel, i feel like "oh i had been on this place before". even though i never go to Japan.
Thank u so much John for the lovely and informative video, I love that u got a personal tour of the samurai house from Mr Ishiguro himself! The view is breathtaking, the history is fascinating and the rickshaw operator is more than fabulous doubling as a tour guide. I do wish u would have brought ur wallet because I wanted u to try some of their food and describe them to us viewers 😋😋😋
This would be an excellent place to get an Airbnb and just stay for 2 weeks!! I could do a work holiday and just edit videos, enjoy the wonderful neighborhood!
The streams is awesome John, enjoy it alot to be able to studying about Samurai and also fascinated by autumn colors foliage. Thank you for sharing it John 👍
I've been to Kakunodate in Autumn 2014. Awesome place. Didn't try the Jinrikusha though. I have to admit that I was tempted but I prefer my own two legs whenever possible.
Ah I just booked hotel near Kakunodate for April to enjoy cherry blossoms, i hadn't planned on it but its on my way to hirosaki sakura that I'm going to so thought, why not. Interesting to watch.
They are kinda same but they are different - hahahaha I hope next year I could visit Japan and this lovely place, I really want to be there and enjoy a rickshaw view in Kakunodate
beatiful houses surrounded by trees, i like to now wy they did the houses in wood and paper and not other materials, the houses mas by very cood in the winter can you explaind?
Yes go back take Kanae beautiful place maybe you pull Kanae in a Rickshaw or take one together this type of video is brilliant Loved it learnt heaps this is what closes the gap between us if you are willing to be open respectful to something that is different.
Yeah. It's the other way around the dress of the Jedi was inspired by Japanese dresses. Although their dress would be considered very informal almost sloven. A Samurai without Hakama and Haori is practically naked if you under stand what I mean.
Lord Ishiguro is quite the country gentleman. So very cool. You were treated very well, John.
The vibrant foliage colors and autumn vibe are awesome!

@@kaltaron1284 I figured they would stay in dorms or a barracks of some kind but no one shows that end of it either.

😂 well, I wasn’t going to let my enemies near me unprotected in a Kimono 👘 heading to Ishikuro-san’s house! Of course!!
I would love to be a resident there, and have one of those impressive gateways to my house. Thankyou John for showing us all around.👍

Another must-visit on the list when I return next month!

Loved Kakunidate when I was there in fall 4 years ago. Would love to go again.
This video is so fascinating , thank you for showing us this.
Nice video John, makes me wanna go visit. 😂 By the way, what's the charges like for the 30 minutes rickshaw ride?
Just got to see this. Funny, your guide has a hat made in Seattle by Kavu. The Chillba model. We have 2.
I enjoyed watching this video ❤
I thought that Samurai lived in mountains village like the movie Last Samurai(loved the movie btw)
I would really love to see that kinda village

The house is Ishiguro Samurai House 武家屋敷「石黒家」 Japan, 〒014-0331 Akita, Semboku, Kakunodatemachi Omotemachishimocho, 1.
I added the link in the video description now - thank you for this!
We still have a few rickshaws of similar type left, here in kolkata

It's probably just me... But I think you dress a like a Jedi. Obiwan if you will. But then again George Lucas was influenced by Akira Kurosawa. 😁

the "woman's" kimono is not as good at keeping things in.
