Blind Blake was the premier ragtime blues guitarist of the 1920s. He extended the alternating bass style, that was popular at the turn of the century, to encompass the dance trends and more complex blues ideas that were emerging from the jazz bands of New Orleans and Chicago. His playing featured unique right hand thumb rolls that evoked the feel of the Charleston dance-step. Rev. Gary Davis greatly admired Blake’s playing and used to remark that Blake had a “sportin’ right-hand”. Blind Blake influenced generations of country blues guitarists and was never equalled.
In this unique dvd lesson, Woody Mann explores the ideas, techniques and styles of this legendary guitarist. A 48 page tab/music booklet is included as well as BONUS audio tracks of all the original Blind Blake recordings of the
tunes taught.

I’ve gotten most of this song from the Jorma Kaukonen version. You confirmed what I have is pretty close, but with the variations here, I’m going to finally nail this thing! Thanks Woody.

@@johnmcphee3136 haha, I tabbed the song out a couple of months ago and wanted to see how other people were hearing this very old gem of a song! Even slowing the tune down to half speed, because of the old recording quality it's difficult at times to know exactly what crazy Blind Blake was up to!
If Woody teaches a piece from an old bluesman, you can bet your boots that's the way it was done. Woody was a great historian, musician, teacher and friend.
@@jesseoelbaum6843 Open E is annoying, you break strings and can tweak the tension of your guitar neck. I think your friend here was just being wise and doing it an Open D instead of open D for simplicity. If he did E, he'd not only being risk snapping strings and messing up neck tension, but so would every student who was learning from him. So it wasn't a dig. Just saying that the original is in the key of E, not D.

Woody, really loved your laid back knowledge. Also, gorgeous sound and the blues rhythm like train so solid! The hook on this Blind Blake song is so strong just amazing! I play easy listening Jazzy / Latin Bossa but I've always loved the blues at this level it hits the sweet spot every time! It's phenomenal ace! Thank you for going to so much trouble explaining the mechanics of this great song!

@@kalebfingerpickinfannin Thanks for telling this very sad news! What a great guitar player he was! There is a few players who play this song but I think Woody did the best rendition of this wonderful Blind Blake blues song!
You know it is going to be a hard one to learn when you have to slow the slowed down version to 0.25 speed to get the notes and changes!
