Welding in the 1G position using stick welding can be a bit challenging, but with practice, it can become easier. Here are some steps to follow:
    1. Prepare the joint: Make sure the edges of the metal are clean and free of any debris, rust, or paint. Use a wire brush or grinder to clean the joint and bevel the edges if necessary.
    2. Set up your welding machine: Choose the appropriate electrode and set the machine according to the manufacturer's recommendations.
    3. Position the metal: Place the metal in a flat position with the joint facing upwards. Make sure the metal is secure and won't move during the welding process.
    4. Start welding: Hold the electrode perpendicular to the joint and strike an arc. Move the electrode slowly and steadily along the joint, making sure to maintain a consistent arc length and angle.
    5. Fill the joint: Once you have completed one pass, use the same technique to fill in the joint with additional passes until it is completely filled.
    6. Clean up: Allow the weld to cool and then use a wire brush or grinder to clean up any slag or rough areas.
I hope this helps! If you need any further information or assistance, please don't hesitate to ask.
