I was a goth kid back then, liked indie and electronic stuff but i saw this video on TV and decided i wanted to go out and do something different. saw the tour for this album in the fall of 2001 in Houston at Numbers; The Vandals were the openers. later Derek walked straight through the middle of the club before they began playing. the crowd was absolutely insane, body surfing, piles of kids crawling over the railing. complete unmitigated fun. i will never see a crowd like that ever again.

We didn't have social media and smartphones and I honestly think those two things have made things way worse especially for teenagers. Everyone was a lot more chilled out. They were definitely problems and bullying and all that but it wasn't a panic type thing or blown into this huge deal like everything is now. Racism also wasn't this thing that was constantly being talked about we all got along nobody thought about it at all. The only thing though the song is way older than 11 years old so how are you five when this came out but 16?
