- The KTM 200 Duke is an all-new, entry-level streetbike, but does it produce worthy power? We put the lightweight Duke on the Cycle World dyno to find out.
KTM surprised the US market with the introduction of the small-displacement 200 Duke this summer. It may be an unassuming new model, but an attractive $3,999 MSRP is awfully enticing to first-time buyers or as a low-budget bike for everyone else.
Powering the 200 Duke is a compact DOHC, 200cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine with a four-valve cylinder head. KTM employs a Bosch electronic fuel-injection system for smooth running and runs it all through a close-ratio six-speed transmission.
The moment we had our hands on the baby Duke, we rolled it onto our in-house Dynojet 250i dyno, where the KTM produced 22.17 hp at 10,090 rpm and 13.13 pound-feet of torque at 8,060 rpm. These friendly peak figures and flexibility make for an ideal platform for less-experienced riders to hone their skills before moving onto faster, larger-displacement bikes.
For reference, the Duke 200′s peak output is roughly half of the 40.53 hp at 8,850 rpm and 26.10 pound-feet of torque at 6,920 rpm that the larger-displacement 390 Duke produced, emphasizing a similar power-to-displacement ratio by KTM. This means that just because of the smaller displacement, it isn’t lower tech.
The KTM 200 Duke’s rider-friendly power and low cost of entry make it a worthy option for less-experienced riders.

Claims 25hp at the crank and makes 22hp at the wheel. Not bad! Consider this bike is $600 more than a Grom and makes more than twice the power.
Yep
Grom is life though
@@westcoastkhmer This is an actual starter bike, a grom isn’t.
@@freebehindbars8654 No such thing as a "starter bike". Its a lightweight bike. I downgraded to one of these after 6 years of riding middleweight bikes. It gets phenomenal gas mileage while having a fun sporty ride.
@@kmb957 You know an A2 complaint bike is the definition of a stater bike, with an actual system in place. Don’t take it as blow to your ego, you can ride a starter bike if you choose.
There is a decrease in torque from the old version, maybe for engine durability, and eliminate vibrations
Wait, what?
@@techmaven5900 the old duke will leave this duke behind 9 outta 10 times.
It's the new BS7 and Euro5 regulation made this Duke a little bit weaker than the previous version.
Did you properly break this bike in before you did the dyno ?
We need this engine in a Grom.
Cbr1000rrr on the dyno how much hp?
Me alegra!
@@gusmoyano Como te fue te ha salido muy costosa?
Rc 200?
How many top speed
Cb300r weighs less, has more horsepower and costs like $1k more... also requires 87 vs the 91 octane in the KTM... CB's oil change interval is like 12,000km while the Duke's in in the 6,000-7,000km range.... for my money, that $1k gets you 25% more power, double the oil change interval, weighs less and (probably) has a better resale value.
here in my country, CB300R is cheaper than the KTM Duke 250, due to Triumph coming in with competitive pricing for the Speed 400
Samaj nahi aaya lekin dhek k acha laga 😂

Thailand 26 hp
that shit top speed is 60?? that shit slow asf. wtf and i was about to buy it. lmao
They dyno in one gear that's not the top speed
Not bad
Duke 200 is a scooter, change my mind.
17s and 87 mph with 6 gears and a clutch 😂
Its a tired four stroke
Only 22.3 ps of power but claims is 24.5 ps of power!
That will vary from one brand of dyno to the other. Different operators, correction factor, bikes atmospheric condition etc.
I saw 6 new cbr 600 come out of the crates ran in and dynoed. There was almost a 7hp variance between them. So that's a perfectly acceptable variance. Might read it in another dyno junk and it read higher than factory numbers on the next one.
The power figures of every bike be it 100 cc or 1000 cc is the power to the crank and not to the wheels. Power to the wheel is always lesser as it gets transferred through the gears n chain. Simple.
