      I'm using the UA-cam app with android and I often watch/listen to videos with the phone in portrait mode (video is still landscape , but comments are below) and I was wondering why his framing was so off, the top of his head/hair is cut off, but after I read your comment I turned my phone landscape and sure enough the aspect ratio was fixed and the framing was right

    BRUH this video made me realize that youtube is freelance work. That's incredible and I can't believe it's not talked about more. And I totally agree with you about things like online metrics. I know people online who stress when a twitter post they make doesn't get enough likes. That shit will absolutely tank your confidence and wreck your productivity the moment you falter.

    youtubers over invested in large teams, elaborate set design, overly complex editing, etc. at the end of the day we just want chill vids by people who aren't milking us for private jet money. i dont think i truly understood how much money youtubers were printing until I saw linus' studio tour. my god, you can't tell me that amount of stuff is necessary to review screwdrivers and android phones

    • @dariuskromoser8936
      @dariuskromoser8936 4 місяці тому +6

      Linus is not a UA-camr, it's a huge media production company, and they have comparable viewership to multi-national TV channels. That amount of stuff is necessary to have a well-oiled production machine that does like three videos a day. If you don't like the videos, that's cool, but don't mistake LMG for a guy 'doing UA-cam' in the way our boy is.

    • @Jason-fp7vi
      @Jason-fp7vi 4 місяці тому

      @@dariuskromoser8936no man. Have worked for companies handling a lot more data than linuses 4k videos, have never required the type of intranet setup and storage he has going on. Don't know anyone setting up enterprise networking like that. plenty of his setup is not truly necessary and is likely created with the intention of making videos on that tech to further the machine
      I like linuses videos, the script writing and production is very slick and I have so much respect for his come up from NCIX (rip). At the same time I think it would be disingenuous to say he requires the studio setup they do when no one else runs a studio with that many bells and whistles

    Love that approach so much, I think it's part of the reason why your videos remain unique and refreshingly enjoyable. I think many youtubers tend to gradually fall into the trap of becoming just like everyone else on the platform in the chase of growth; thumbnails follow the same catchy template, unique editing style turns into a uniform "safe" style, etc. Almost feels like they turn into content machines.

    Working in tech a prior company I worked for grew 15% YoY and the CEO that was at the bottom range of what’s considered acceptable. To me growing 15% annually seems like we’re doing more than just good enough. If a business venture is doing well enough to pay the salaries, overhead, equipment, taxes, and have extra left over to cover future lean times, that’s success to me. Totally love the philosophy to have “enough” and peace over grinding for more, more, more.

    • @arcaneire
      @arcaneire 4 місяці тому

      It's about potential. For some companies, 15% *is* absolutely a great success. But if you took control of Apple right before the release of the iphone, 15% growth would be an immense failure
      A safe job is nice for the people in the company now, but maybe the company could employ 10x the people in the future and pay 10x the taxes. How would you feel if the company decided "nah we're good with that whole growth thing" right before they hired you :p?
      I do get what you mean though, people take it too far. Just wanted to say thag a CEO can say something like that and be totally correct.
      Obviously different on a personal level too, it's not all about the sigma grindset if that makes you depressed

    Sturgglng to conjure up a wishlist honestly to me sounds like a very unique thing for people who aren't crazy rich. I find that most times people have wishes of things they could buy all the time but decide that they have enough and so therefore don't buy it. But struggling to even think of stuff you want is rare it seems.

    I remember about a decade ago gaming juggernaut Totalbiscuit was talking about his then friends The Yogscast and how they expanded into a huge enterprise. I specifically remember him talking about how they rented out an office building to do work in and him just kicking back talking about how he can do his day job wearing boxers. Totalbiscuit kept making videos until the cancer grew too far and forced him to stop (he died about a month later) and I just feel like that he came a lot closer to finding the secret to happiness than his more successful contemporaries have.

    I think once you become content with your life, you get to find and explore hobbies or topics out of pure curiosity instead of doing something purely to increase your views. I find it hard to get past the hedonic treadmill, I think it's almost engrained in American culture to continue to chase higher goals and net worth. I envy people who can find inner peace in their lives and flow through the day without chasing unattainable goals.

Toxicity in interaction, complaints when there are changes and not allowing the folks producing this shit to be human is violent in many of the ways YT as a money making entity is
